I love all of your motifs. My favorite is the Dizzy Daisy and any feathers. Thank you so much for all you do for us!

  • I really appreciate the pumpkin motif. It shows how to get deep contrasts between the design and the backgrounds. Its a bit like counterpoint of a musical score. Thanks

  • I like each motif you design…mostly the step by step construction which makes it so easy to follow. Every morning I can’t wait to see what you’ve come up with next!!

  • Linda L.

Do you mark your designs on the quilts or is it as you create. I am fascinated by your designs. I do not own a longarm so I try to repeat these designs. I continually strive to get these intricate patterns. I like what I do but it is not top notch. My opinion

  • I enjoyed the square flowers on a recent project! I like the designs that can swirl and cover an area with lovely stitching–not necessarily pictures of things. I love the MS Barb idea (previous reply) about motions that look like ice skating! That is a good image!

  • Kimberly Browne

I think all you motifs are great, I am just starting free motion so my favorite right now is the wave since the quilt I will be working on is sea themed.

  • Judy Allen

    I love leaves!

  • MS Barb

Stars, seashells, and motion that looks like ice skating!

  • Love feathers and swirling things.

  • Joan K

Anything with lots of swirls and round edges.

  • Holly Ann W.

    Desired motifs?
Something with a ranching flair. My sisters and I all married local ranchers. My husband and I now own what was my paternal grandmother’s homestead. She was a Swedish immagrant and died early January 1925, just 16 days before my dad’s 11th birthday leaving 6 young children and a bereaved husband to continue on with the ranch. As you might guess, girl gifts in our family are anything but “girly,” so would like some inspiration for western/cowboy motifs.
I really like how you put designs together and flow from one to the next. As a perfectionist to a fault, I obsess over this or that line not being “just right and how do I get to the next one?,” but I can see by your examples that in the finished project, they just all blend together and one doesn’t notice each individual for singular critique. That alone has given me hope to bravely try FMQ as soon as I get a chance.

I love your blog and look forward to it every day, it’s very inspirational. It’s hard to pick my favourite design, each new one becomes a favourite! I’d love to see some cat designs – I’ve just acquired two adorable feline companions.
I’m in awe of your generosity in sharing your designs and your time with your readers – thank you very much, I really appreciate it!
Happy Labour Day weekend to you and all your readers!

  • duchick

My favorite motifs are anything swirly and circular! I would love to see anything and everything new you come up with. I am loving it all!

  • Doodle

    Swirling stars-fav today!

  • I feel like I have a new favorite each Tuesday when you post them!

  • Pat Vetterlein

I think your swirling stars are my favorite. I just love the designs you share with us!

  • Louise

I love all your motifs. My favorite one is the swirling daisies.

  • Tabitha Keener

Thanks so much for the giveaway! I’m fairly new to quilting but I love flower motifs and feathers! I think it would be neat to see Dresden Plate motifs quilted all over or in some form of combination with flowers and feathers. Thanks so much, I’m learning quite a bit and I sincerely love all things quilty!

Something is up with the servers…I just now received over 150 posts from The Inbox Jaunt that were originally posted Thur-Friday…glad they came thru!!

  • Congrats on the article! I love all free motion designs and like to try new ones once in a while. I guess my favorite is bubbles.

  • Beth B

Feathers and swirls. Really, there are so many great motifs, it is hard to choose.

  • I love the sailboats…used it on a nautical-themed baby quilt. Everyone thought it was done by a professional!

  • I love feathers. There are so many ways to draw and use them.

  • mzdaisee47

I continue to learn from your tutorials, even those I may not choose to use on a quilt. All that practice is making a difference in my skill level! I make tulip themed quilts for a tulip festival and could really use some new tulip motifs and a couple for daffodils. I’m having trouble trying to come up with something other than echoing or using the few patterns I have for tulips, which don’t work on all the quilts. Whatever you present, thank you so much for sharing!

  • Pam S

I love doing feathers. But I would also like to learn do small animals like rabbits or frogs hiding among the other quilting. Thanks for the chance to win!

  • Joan Bruck

I love your tutorials. They inspire and give me courage to tackle my projects.

  • Elizabeth Neal

Lori, thank you isn’t enough. I want to learn larger fill motifs. I’m a new quilter I can sew and love color so I do great at creating tops, I wanted you to know you are my first instructor for FMQ and am now practicing “square flower” and “double zig zag” for a “Hole in the wall quilt” I hope I win. • Dee D

I would like to see some masculine motifs, including some for teenage boys and young men.

  • Naomi

I love the mixing of designs, pebbles and flowers and leaves but I will always have a special place in my heart for the birds because they remind me of those lovely birds you find in calligraphy.

  • Debbie Evans

Feathers! and all their wonderful variations are my favorites
Love your tutorials. They are wonderful to follow and make the quilting possible, successful ~ ‘feel good’ accomplishments Thanks

  • Cheryl in PA

I love your classic designs. The step by step pictures and descriptions are valuable! I try to do the designs on my DSM. Fun fun fun!

  • I don’t have a preference, just enjoy all of your designs. I am a newbie to quilting and am very afraid of free motion quilting. I usually do echoing or straight line quilting on my home sewing machine. I learn a lot from reading your posts. Thanks and keep up the good work.

  • Pam Jolly

Right now my favorite is the Dizzy Daisy – I am hoping to spend some time this weekend playing with it. But, truly, I love every design you have shared!

  • Tonie Peterson

A favorite I have done is scattered grape clusters or a mini stippling. The work I see you create is absolutely stunning! My favorites are “feather styles” as in the photo above … just keep creating … !!!

  • My favorites are Flower Power and Nikki’s Puzzle.

  • The most fun to sew (from my narrow experience) was a loops and starts background filler on a baby quilt. I love flowing lines though it takes a bit of practice to get the curves correct.

  • Susan

I love your blog and love the very creative motifs you give. And that you give them as free tutorials is amazing! Thank you so much! I would love to see some trees, flowers and grass as a pattern say that could be in a simple row quilt. Also I wondered how one decides how big to quilt their designs. I guess it has to do with density and am not sure how plan that. My brain can’t get wrapped around that. Thanks for the chance to win! And thanks again for your blog. Its appreciated so much!

  • I would love to see some geometrical shapes. These are my “challenge” shapes. Look forward to all you tutorials. thanks for your generosity.

  • Ana Kempfer

I love all of your tutorials. They have really helped me expand outside the boring stipple!! Thanks!

  • I would like to see silly shapes.

  • Donna Thompson

Unfortunately, due to a severe tremor, I am unable to do all but very loose free motion quilting that doesn’t show glaring tremor related jerkiness. I admire your artistic ability and envy it. Many years ago, I MIGHT have accomplished it but not now. Thanks for making your designs and techniques available for those who are able to do them.

    • Marta

Glad to know you haven’t just given up.You are trying and that encourages me to keep on keeping on..Blessings…

    • I love your Spirograph sun, dizzy daisy and all things feather! Quite frankly what I appreciate most is the inspiration to try and doodle! What I continue to struggle with is which to use in a particular application…analyzing a quilt to figure out what it needs? Thanks for the inspiration!

  • I love feathers and all their beautiful variations

  • I would love some input on an idea I have been doodling recently. It is to make a border out of airplane “planforms” (i.e.. God’s eye view, if you will). I was 9 y USAF and would love to add some more patriotic themes to my skill set 🙂

  • Bonnie. Reed

I like anything with hearts, & I love feathers! Took me a while to master feathers but it was worth the time and practice. Love your blog! You have taught me so much.

  • I love Tibetan style clouds and also Tibetan flames.

  • Jeanine

I love the sun variations that you did recently.

  • I would like to see quilting designs for traditional quilt blocks. Other than stitch-in-ditch I never know what to quilt in blocks like Ohio Stars or Monkey Wrench.

  • Patty Adams

All of your designs are beautiful, but three of my favorites are: Swirling Stars, The Daisy Chain, and Swirls & Twirls. Thank you for sharing your designs with us.

  • All of your motifs are done so well and are very easy to follow along! I practice them on my white board and then go right to my machine. Thank you for making me a better free motion quilter!! I hope we can meet someday, I’m in Woodbury MN.

  • Anne Gilmore

I love your motifs also, you are a great help at making it easier. I love hearts, flowers and anything that twirls! Thanks so much for this offer and all your help.
