  3. Hmmm, would love to see the real painting..up close. The faces are exquisite! And I see
    Mr Sadler left one side of the table “empty” so we could see everyone…I guess he was too early to learn that from television. His handling of the fabrics is well done and makes them lovely. Yep, talented guy!

  6. On closer inspection, it appears the bride is focusing on cutting her cake. What the groom is looking at is beyond me!

  8. To figure out the mystery somewhat, I Saved the painting to my desktop and enlarged it many times until it was about to be too pixelated to decifer. But, here is what I think about the groom and bride. There is a gent beside the groom making the toast with right arm raised. He has his left arm and hand around and on the groom’s left shoulder. The groom is listening to the toast. He has his right hand at his goblet, thumb and forefinger at the base of the goblet. The reflections in upper part of goblet are painted in. There is another “goblet” like in front of his that is taller than the ones people are holding pending the toast. He is looking at the plate of cake in front of him. What is he thinking? I wish this toast was over so I can eat my cake? Or “she cut me a big piece, I don’t feel like eating a sweet now but I guess I will have to”? Or “that looks delicious, I hope there are leftovers.”? The Bride
    is trying to be fair in her slicing of the cake. There are a lot of people to serve. I don’t think she is really listening to the toast, LOL….OR maybe, after cutting a piece for herself, and her grandma, she is thinking of turning over the slicing task to someone else. Just my surmising over this lively and lovely painting.. Wouldn’t mind having it in my dining room.

  9. Interesting that the foreground has clothes, shoes and stockings thrown on the floor. Not something you would see in a formal dining room during a wedding supper.

  10. Did someone drink herself under the table? After all, she was hoping to marry him !! Wouldn’t we love to know the real stories!
