Good Morning, Quilters!
Today I bring you Quilted Feathers! Not exactly what you think of when you hear “quilted feathers”!
Duplicate Emails
Before we look at feathers, I need to address the ongoing problem with duplicate emails.
I am aware of the problem, and I will again ask for your patience. Please do a quick “delete” of one of the emails and then proceed to LKQ. My daughters are working on this for me as it has not been an easy fix. Technology-we love it, until it messes with us!
BERNINA We All Sew Tutorials
Yesterday’s tutorial for Scalloped Hearts was sponsored by BERNINA and I provided a link to the tutorial. You do NOT need to own a BERNINA to use the link or to follow their tutorials. All are welcome and most of the tutorials are not brand specific.
I highly recommend the BERNINA We All Sew site for excellent information and tutorials on a wide variety of sewing topics. This week my “Beginner Sewing Club” (more on that later) used the Speedy Pillowcase Tutorial to whip up several pillowcases!
Quilted Feathers
I LOVE feathers! And I LOVE whole cloth quilts. Quilted Feathers as a whole cloth quilt is a winning combination!
I’ve quilted feathers before. but this time I added more detail and more motifs to fill the sections.
To make the feathers, I created a quilt sandwich with lightweight Warm and Natural cotton batting. Next, I lightly sketched a feather shape.
Then I outlined stitched the feather and filled in each section with a variety of motifs.
Finally, I stitched the outline several times and cut out the shape.
For this quilt, I decided to fill in the background instead of cutting out the feathers.
I outlined the feather in black before stitching the background to give the feather more definition.
Quilted Feathers
I love to quilt small projects like this when I only have a few minutes in my sewing room. They are quick to make-but do require careful, slow stitching.
What about YOU?
Do YOU ever create small quilted projects?
Have YOU ever framed a quilt?
What’s your favorite motif?
We’d LOVE to hear
Yours,
Loony-Lark-Lapwing-Lori

The feathers are awesome!

I could see using 2 or 3 of these, side-by-side, as ‘trivets’ – they’re too long & narrow for mug rugs, but would function nicely as a hot pad or just something to keep a surface from being touched/ scratched.
My issue (for a long while) isn’t duplicates – I only receive the one for “Silent Sunday”. But I just signed back up again & maybe it will work this time.

I loved your feathers. I also doodle , FM quilt & paint feathers, as well as leaves I collect bird feathers & leaves as inspiration. Thank you for your daily inspiration. I’m looking forward to the doodling sessions, you mentioned that you would be starting back up again.

This reminds me of an embroidered feather I did (an April Sproule stitch-along). It was fun (made a pincushion), this looks even more fun. Thank you!

Thank you for all your wonderful ideas… I’m contemplating a special quilt with leaves… Oh for new ideas!

Leaves and feathers are some of my favorites, perhaps because they’re so organic or perhaps they are often brilliantly colored (peacocks, parrots, and autumn leaves).
A note on duplicate email messages:
As one who had a 25 year career in the technology arena, I’d like Lori’s followers to know that if you’re receiving multiples of Lori messages, there is possibly a reason that is beyond Lori’s control. Some people, like me, have multiple email ID’s with one email provider. For example, if you use Gmail and have 2 different ID’s with them, potentially you could continue to receive multiple messages, even after the problem is fixed, one for each of your ID’s at Gmail.com. So while her system is sending duplicates, potentially you could receive 4. I have two ID’s and i receive 4 messages every time due to that. Duplication problems such as this can be deep in the program code of the system and frustratingly difficult to find, let alone if it’s an intermittent one, which is enough to drive a programmer screaming into the night. “Intermittent” is a dirty word in the technology world.
Please, do be patient as Lori requests, it is a process and will ultimately be resolved.

What a great technique on creating embellishments or embedded art with quilted feathers! I can see it being used on all kinds of shapes…hearts comes to mind immediately. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for all these tutorials. I’m a complete novice on quilting but I’m very curious about creating one someday. About the double emails, I followed your instructions on removing one email but both emails get deleted. Cannot just keep one. Then I use a different one to get here into your page.

Is there a pattern for the feathers? They are so lovely, and my drawing skills are not up to be yours.

I like to make quilted postcards. They are really small projects, and I can try unique threads and/or designs. My friends and customers enjoy receiving them in the mail and I get to practice.
