Feather FMQ!
Running a little late this week…the Tuesday Tutorial will be a “Wednesday Tutorial” this week…
I am excited to show you a new project…
my spin on Feathers!I started making these and just couldn’t stop!
I had a few framed for a new Autumn decoration!
I used a variety of threads including Sulky Rayon, Aurifil Cotton and Superior Magnifico to stitch these on Kona cotton with Warm and Natural cotton batting. They are heavily quilted and double stitched around the edges so I could cut them out.
Have you ever framed a quilting project? How did it turn out?
We’d LOVE to hear!
Happy Stitching,
Lori

Your feathers are absolutely gorgeous! What a wonderful idea.
Beautiful!
Superbe idée, ces plumes sont magnifiques et originales
bravo à vous
Love these! You always have such wonderful ideas.
Pretty cute and clever!
whoa! these are drop dead gorgeous! I HOPE the tutorial will be about these beauties. I have to have them! Yes!
I like your thinking Lori – feathers – I love them and they make excellent wall art!
This is such a wonderful idea. Your feathers look stellar framed.
Great idea and wonderful job. I made a paper piece girl in a hammock and pulled it over a frame to hang as a picture but have never cut out anything and put it behind glass.
Oh, goodness. My daughter wants to use feathers in the nursery, and I imagined doing such a thing, but even in my mind they didn’t turn out THIS beautifully! I have to try this!
Oh these are very cool Lori. Love, love, love them….
This makes me smile! You never cease to amaze me with your awesome ideas. Thanks.
I like your feathers. I recently stitched some feathers much like yours in 2 borders of a wall hanging. This is really a nice way to feature them – I am imagining other uses…. I have not put a quilt behind glass, but I have put them on stretcher bars.
I love seeing the things you make Lori, But I get confused on your website. This is ot the first time I have given up trying to find the instructions for something. Am I stupid?
Sorry! What instructions are you looking for?
The feathers………..They are Beautiful !
I haven’t done a tutorial for the feathers. Perhaps in the future.
Fab!
Great idea. I’ve never framed a quilting project but I have had my one and only Art Quilt stretched over a canvas. I’m pleased with how that turned out and would display a quilt like this again
Yes, I have quilted a paper piecing Halloween Witch for a friend as a Christmas gift last year. He loved it.
Your feathers are fantastic! I really do love them and I sure hope they are the Wed. tutorial!
Beautiful!
Why have I not thought of cutting them out! ?
That looks so good! Lori, you are just the Imagination Bomb! Thanks for the inspiration!
Absolutely love the feathers!! Will you be sharing how you made them? hint, hint! 🙂
Love your feathers and the wall art. Great idea to frame a quilting project though I’ve never done that!
Look forward to the feather tutorial.
Cool idea. What do you mean by “double stitched”? Thx.
After I was finished with the feather, I went back around to reinforce the area where I was planning to cut.
Absolutely glorious. If one were a very patient trimmer, one could use this as an applique idea, trimming after a first basic bout of stitching anchoring the feather, and then going to town. Probably not much more patience required than trimming after the individual feathers, I’m sure.
I love feathers! And these are awesome! I once made some leaves similar to this (but nowhere near as perfect), and I had the same experience – like I didn’t want to stop. I, too, framed a quilt project. After returning to the Midwest after a visit with my daughter in Arizona, I wanted to hold onto the trip, so went straight to my sewing studio and created an Arizona flag quilt – about 4″ x 6″. I then framed it and hung it in my living room as a reminder – as if I need one!
Thanks for sharing! Your work is impeccable!
Yes, I have framed an intricately quilted block. Unfortunately, the glass, even though it is non-glare, makes the texture less prominent. Still, it is something I am proud of, and it is out where I can see it.
Love it , Can’t wait to give it a try
Now that’s what I call a feather! They are stunning Lori, thank you for sharing your fantastic talent!
I love these feathers! Wouldn’t they make great ornaments for the tree?
Those are just beyond amazing! I’m always in awe of your free motion quilting, but WOW!
Love your neat feathers! Can’t wait to try some!
I thought. Oh yuk…feathers. Then I saw your wonderful feathers in a fresh, new way and am in love! You are an inspiration to us all!
Excellent idea!
These are just ‘tickle ” you pink cute!!!!!! Your head must be a tornado inside with idea’s???? Fantastic job!!
Love these feathers!!!
I love them!great idea, Lori
The feathers are a beautiful idea. They look so pretty plain or framed.
Oh my! How beautiful. Never ever thought about framing my quilting. I do have a sample just pinned to the wall maybe, I should think of something more. Thanks for such great inspiration.
I just found your blog and love it! I found your tutorials on spiders and spider webs so perfect as I am piecing a Candy Corn quilt. Thank you – your blog is super. Gee. I just noted a tutorial below on a candy corn quilt! How wonderful is that!
A flamingo and canary feather? I guess just about any color choice could be “justified.” I think I will try leaves in the same method. Not quite as many color choices, but here in Ohio, the Fall colors are pretty varied right now!
I Love your feather project. These feathers are what I envision when I want to quilt them. But most teach those big plumes. They dont look like feathers to me. Was happy to run across this blog as I was doing some catching up. Thanks
