How to Machine Quilt the Scalloped Heart Motif

February 11, 2020
Good Morning, Quilters!

Today we are going to learn how to machine quilt the Scalloped Heart Motif. It’s a great motif for Valentine’s Day.  It’s also a perfect motif  to add to quilts any time you want to stitch in a little love.    Of course, we always want to add love to our quilts…

I guess you could say the Scalloped Heart is perfect for any quilt!

New Opportunities!

Before we get started, I would like to share some exciting news!  This year, I will be partnering with BERNINA to create 24 machine quilting videos and tutorials.  The tutorials will be very similar to the Tuesday Tutorials found here at Lori Kennedy Quilts.  Each lesson will include step-by-step still photos of the motifs. In addition, there will be a short video–usually less than a minute–demonstrating how to stitch the motifs.

How this Affects YOU

I still plan to create new motifs weekly–the Tuesday Tutorials--however, twice a month, I will link to BERNINA’s We All Sew for the full tutorial.  Also, you may see the videos on your social media feeds from BERNINA before you see the patterns here.

Stay Tuned Here at LKQ

If you receive my email notifications (and I HOPE you do!!), you will see all of the new tutorials!

Each Tuesday I will either have a new tutorial here, or I will link to the new motif on BERNINA.

The Scalloped Heart Motif

This week, you will find the Scalloped Heart Motif on BERNINA’s We All Sew. The tutorial includes a video as well as step-by-step photos.

The Scalloped Heart would look great in the center of a block.

Or add a little “Love” to travel between motifs to create a horizontal border.

To create a vertical border, stitch the Scalloped Heart Motif, then stitch through the center to start the next heart in the row.

What’s New?

Are there any new opportunities in your life?

Does watching a video make stitching this motif easier?

What quilt in YOUR collection could use a little love?

We’d LOVE to hear!

Your quilting videographer,

Lori

Hello, I’m getting 2 copies of all of your emails. If not too much trouble could you please extinguish one of them? Thank you.

I am also getting occasional duplicate emails…is there a way to eliminate the extra copy without missing new posts? Thanks, Brenda

Congratulations! I’m part of the Bernina followers community. I saw your tutorial on the blog in the last few days. My Bernina is my practicing FM machine. My Brother is for my machine embrodidery. Looking forward to your tutorials.

Love the heart. Will these tutorials be put into your motifs for future reference on this blog or will they be part of Bernina? I do not have a Bernina and therefore do not get that blog.

You don’t need to have a Bernina to see the videos and other projects. Just go to We All Sew online.

Hey Lori! How exciting, happy for you!! I’ll be watching for those. I do think the videos help.
I have a new Longarm business called Boots ‘n Bobbins and offer E2E computerized quilting to my costumers. I find myself missing the freedom and creativity of fmquilting though and have been sitting down to play with that again too. I pop in to see what you are up as time allows and still love your Tuesday tutorials. Still piecing on my featherweight I bought in Stillwater!! FMQ on my Bernina though. Wonderful to see your teaching reach so many people!
