Throwback Thursday–An Autumn Wholecloth Quilt

October 25, 2018

Good Morning, Quilters!

I LOVE the beautiful days of Autumn in Minnesota!

I will be outside today, raking leaves, putting my roses to bed and taking photos.

All the while, I will be soaking in the beauty of the Earth’s bounty and storing it up for the long days of winter…

The weather is supposed to be quite rainy and cold next week…but I’ll have my quilts to keep me warm!

And inspiration for more quilts to come!Autumn Landscape, FMQ, Lori Kennedy

Hope YOUR day is filled with quilting inspiration…

I love that bottom quilt! Just curious how much of it you marked on the fabric before stitching? I’m assuming probably the inside grid and maybe the leaves and pumpkins in the border?

Lori, you are such inspiration for the seasons and holidays! I just finished a flannel rag quilt with 80 blocks of 8 inches and must admit that doodling first before FMQ light designs on the blocks sure helped. I’ve become a doodle fan!

Lori! As always, I love your work. I do have a question. With the intense quilting comes rippled edges, as seen on the unbound autumn quilts. How do you control that when it comes time to bind the quilt?

CJ I know you were asking Lori but I will tell you how I handle it. I hand baste within the 1/4 inch seamline with long stitches and snug it up to the length I want and then bind it. It always works!

        Thanks so much, Robbie!

I love the third one Lori – the leaves are gorgeous and I’m going to try them. I’m with CJ above in that I also would like to know how you handle those rippled edges. I’m still something of a newbie quilter but If I were to guess, I’d say you steam press them, stay-stitch them, then square and trim them. Am I anywhere close to the right answer?

Love the quilt!!! Last year visiting Pennsylvania we had Chicken and Waffles and they were surprisingly good! As for the chips, I never met a chip I didn’t like!!!

At one time you told us how to give you “credit” when we ordered something from Craftsy, but I can’t seem to find where on their website I can do that. I will do it gladly if you’ll repeat the instructions for me. You have by far and away the best quilting blog out there – pack full of information with just enough personal touches to make you a “real person.”

Oh, Lori, you outdid yourself on that pumpkin “whole cloth” quilt! Sigh, I wonder if I will ever do work to even resemble yours?
I have fibromyalgia, and since I had 2 “good” days in a row, this is a pj’s day for me, but I entertained by looking at your beautiful work and praying that another good day for me will be soon!
Thank you for sharing your incredible talent with those of us who just wish to be!!!
