THE MAGIC OF 10,000 STEPS
The American Heart Association recommends 10,000 steps per day (the equivalent of nearly 5 miles).
The benefits are many:
- Lower BMI
- Reduced waist size
- Increased energy
- Less risk for Type II diabetes
- Lower risk for heart disease
EVERY STEP COUNTS
If you are not able to walk 10,000 steps per day…THAT’S OKAY!
Start where you are. Every step counts. Work toward 1000 the first week and increase by 1000 every other week.
WE CAN DO THIS!!
We all love quilting, but really…some things are more important!
THE SAILBOAT SAMPLER
Let’s finish up our Samplers this week by adding a border.
I like to add a straight line fill border. Mark a one inch border around the entire sampler and fill in with closely spaced lines.
The closely spaced lines create a thick border–with enough density contrast to frame the composition.
You can mark a one inch border around the entire sampler or just eyeball it.
In the corners, add a design element like The Greek Key, The Fish or a Star.
ROW NINE
I am using this sampler as a baby gift. In Row Nine, I plan to add the baby’s name and birthdate.
If you plan to keep your sampler, add your name and date, just like an old fashioned sampler.
I recommend using your own handwriting to add a truly personal touch–rather than using a copied font.
BINDING
Finally, add a binding. Audition several before you make a final decision–a good binding can really make the quilt “sing”. I often use a fabric in a lighter or darker shade of my quilt top.
This binding has a rope like motif-perfectly suited for a nautically inspired quilt.
Trim the thread tails, add a hanging sleeve and you are finished! #noUFOs

I really loved this QAL…. the first one I have participated in! (I am new to FMQ) I had a lot of fun and I am delighted with my finished quilt! Next time I will find a heavier weight thread to use though as my stitching doesn’t show as well as it could. Thank you so much for sharing this project. I’m so happy to see everyone is finishing up the sampler. As of last week, I finally managed to get the lines drawn and buy the thread. I think I need 18 weeks to complete a 6 week sampler.
