Thank you to all those who left comments yesterday.  Seems everyone feels the same way–we must enjoy gorgeous weather whenever we can!

Today, we are continuing with the July theme:  Roses.  We started with Nora’s Rose:  A Free Motion Quilt Pattern…and Nora’s Rose a vase quilt.  Then we enjoyed a Monet painting with a rose garden in the background and of course, Silent Sunday’s Rose.

This week, our friend Peggy took the foreground rose from the Silent Sunday photo above and created a lovely, free Paper-Pieced Rose Pattern.  The finished size is 24 inches square.

  6. Oh, boy. Until now, I had “steeled” my resolve not to add more projects to my stacks…..but, this is soooo beautiful!!! I ….I…..oh, heck, I gotta try this one. 😉
    I better download everything and hope I can learn as I go. Whew, never have done paper piecing. I wonder…….can I paper piece the rose, and then applique it to another project???

    1. You certainly can integrate the rose into a larger project but probably it will be more practical to use it as a medallion center rather than appliqued. — Peggy

  9. You might like to take a peak at what other colorways look like. I’ve posted 4 variations on WisconsinQuilting.wordpress.com You’ll need 10 shades for the rose itself, 3 background shades and 5 more colors for the stems and buds. I’d be tempted by the peach one, myself.

  13. Peggy, I hope there is a paper piecing How to Book in your future. Or possibly… Could you come to our guild in Michigan and do a lecture and trunk show as well as a workshop ! You are a breath of fresh air ! Mary

    1. If, by chance, you are in the UP, I’d love to visit. I jump at any chance to visit the Keweenaw! I am glad you enjoy the paper piecing projects and take time to let me know what inspires you and what’s too daunting. I never would have thought I’d like paper piecing myself, as I’m more of a traditional quilter, but Lori’s concept of making the stitching personal made me take a deeper look at making piecing very personal as well…. I will work on a tutorial later this fall when the weather cools down and life slows.

  15. I am doing some simple echoing on a quilt that I have had a while. I am very inexperienced when it comes to free motion quilting. The problem I am having is I am going on fine for a little bit and then the top thread shreds. I did start with a new needle and lowered the tension a bit. Any suggestions anyone?? Frustrated and I have a long way to go 🙂

    1. I would try another needle first. They can have burrs even when new. What thread are you using?

  16. I am currently working on this as a wallhanging …could you take a look at section “N”? Specifically, the sequence in which the pieces are supposed to be sewn together? I am finding that it may be simpler to sew what is now labeled as “N4” and “N5” together and then add “N1″….(unless I’ve been looking at it for too long and am not seeing something correctly)
