The Perfect Pear-A Free Motion Quilt Tutorial

September 20, 2016

fmq-pears-lorikennedy001

Good Morning, Quilters!

Bosc, Bartlett, Anjou…What’s YOUR favorite pear?

We’ve stitched several variations of apples–

The Sweetheart Apple

The Delicious Apple

and ‘A’ is for Apple

But the fall fruit bowl wouldn’t seem right without a pear or two.

THE PERFECT PEAR-A FREE MOTION QUILT TUTORIAL

FMQ, Pears, Tutorial

Begin by drawing a rectangle.  In the sample shown here, the rectangle is 2-1/2 inches by 3 inches.

Begin stitching along the bottom line.  Stitch a wavy line to the center of the bottom line.  Then stitch a shallow “C”.

FMQ, Pears, Tutorial

Stitch the neck of the pear and swirl in on the top.

FMQ, Pears, Tutorial

Add a short stem and a simple leaf.

FMQ, Pears, Tutorial

Stitch the neck of the pear.

FMQ, Pears, Tutorial

Stitch the right side of the pear, curling in to the center of the pear.

FMQ, Pears, Tutorial

Echo stitch the curl and stitch under the pear to begin the next motif in the row.

FMQ, Pears, Tutorial

The Perfect Pear!

Wouldn’t this motif be adorable on a table runner or kitchen towel!?

Or on the border of a fall quilt?

What about YOU?

Remember–Doodle First!

Happy Five-a-Day!

Lori

Good morning Lori, As always, I am in such awe with your free motion designs, and this one is just as amazing as all of your other tutorials! Combine this with your apple, cherry pie, and ribbon candy tutorials, and you have a very yummy combination! Thank you for the continuous inspirations!

I was thinking cornucopia as well–add pumpkins and oak leaves. Great minds think alike!

Yes M’am! and a few li’l acorns too? Pumpkins were the subject of my very first art piece in 1978!! They are special to me.Well, back to FL now for more medical tests… YUK…Thrilled to have my new doodle pad to take with me.
Blessings for everyone else having health issues.. Took a walk by the lake at twilight yesterday. There was a spectacular sunset over the water in Autumn colors.

So many motifs. . . so little time. This design tells me it is time to start a fall sampler.

Great design and tutorial. Thank you. Definitely an adorable motif that would be perfect on a table runner or kitchen towel, but I also think it would be perfect on a Fall theme mug rug. Or at least, that is what I’m thinking of using it on this week.

The pear design also is perfect for Partridge in a Pear Tree themed items for Christmas! Your Baby Bird motif can easily become a partridge with a couple of minor changes. Hmmm….I feel an idea coming on ….

I would make the top of the pear a bit different. It looks like a male member to me. (Which is also yummy, but perhaps not on a quilt…;-) )

Each of your tutorials is a pleasure doodling and quilting then. After enjoying the apple in all its variations for nice coasters, I’ll do some with your pear for a friend of mine. Thank you so much for your creativity and your tutorials so perfect as well as your classes. Have a good day ! Marie
