Good Morning, Quilters!

I’m back from an exhilarating and exhausting week at the Craftsy studios in Denver…where you work hard and play hard, laugh a lot and work hard

There were  “Takes” and “re-takes” and “re-takes of the re-takes”  (usually caused by laughing)

Anyway, it was a ton of fun (did I mention hard work) and I will be telling you a lot more in the next few days and weeks.

The second class (with emphasis on doodling and developing YOUR own motif library)  will be ready around mid-April!!!

THANK YOU

I really want to thank all of you who have been here since “Hello, World!“…and the early tutorial days.

Your encouragement, kind words and support have meant the world to me.

Thank YOU for going on this wild ride WITH ME–I think of YOU every step of the way!

With that in mind….I have a great tutorial for you today!

THE MODERN VINE -TUTORIAL

Begin by drawing two parallel lines.   In the sample below, the lines are 2-1/2 inches apart, but they can be any width that suits YOUR quilt.

In between the rows draw a very slightly wavy line–don’t get too crazy here or it will be difficult to stitch…

Stitch on the line a short distance and then begin the first leaf.

The leaf shape is fairly symmetrical.

Return to the center line.  Try to mirror image the bottom of the leaf…

Leave a small gap.

Stitch a straight line stem and over stitch it back to the drawn line.

Scoot through the small gap–this helps you avoid the build up of stitches at that intersection.

Stitch up the stem a few stitches and create another symmetrical leaf.

Continue up the drawn line to create the vine.

Angle  the leaves upward slightly and note that because the central line is wavy, sometimes the right-sided leaves will be larger and sometimes the left-sided leaves will be larger.

This give the Modern Vine an interesting look.

If one vine is not large enough for your border, add two vines with a different motif in between.

I love the Spirals in between…(I share a few tips on getting perfect Spirals in my upcoming Craftsy video!)

The Modern Vine could be used in place of rows of Feathers in any quilt!

It makes me THINK SPRING!

What about YOU… what makes YOU “think spring”?  We’d love to hear!

Glad-to-be-sleeping-in-my-own-bed,

Lori

PS….Later this week–THE SECOND ANNUAL  MYSTERY QUILT-A-LONG!
