The Home Run Baseball Quilt

July 9, 2014

Free Motion Quilted Baseballs

Do you have any Little League baseball players in your family?  Or perhaps your child prefers softball or tennis?

Wouldn’t it be nice to record all their teams and special dates–home runs, etc. in a special way?

Or perhaps you need a gift for that special coach?

Why not make a Home Run Quilt?

Whether your child is in Little League or Fast Pitch softball, or tennis (green fabric, no zig zag)…this quilt is perfect for all the sportsmen on your team!

Once the quilt is complete,  use a permanent marker to add the names of all the baseball teams on which your child has played and the dates of their home runs…

If your quilt is a coach’s gift, ask each child on the team to sign the baseballs…

Free Motion Quilted BaseballsTO MAKE THE HOME RUN QUILT

Create this quilt by overlapping the circles from yesterday’s free motion quilt tutorial:  The Baseball.

In today’s quilt, I used two types of Rayon thread:  Robison-Anton’s Twister Tweed and Sulky 40 wt –or use cotton Aurifil 28 wt thread as I did in yesterday’s tutorial.

We’re off to a tournament this weekend–wish PK (my son) and his team luck!

Go Pioneers!

Love the baseballs Lori! My head started thinking other elements like the shape of home base for a block and the “plaid” look to the grass when they mow the outfield…set on point of course..haha!
Good Luck to PK! Have a great time. 🙂

I’m making t-shirt quilts for all three of my boys out of their little league jerseys (yes, I’ve been saving hem all). This will be perfect! Michelle

Thank you for the great ideas and suggestions. Your tutorial couldn’t have come at a better time. A friend is having a little boy and she and her husband are crazy sport fans. I can’t wait to see your finished quilt. I hope your son and his team do well this weekend.

Lori, I cannot tell you how much I enjoy your blog. It’s always a treat to see what you come up with each day. I’m practicing my fmq every day so I can get better and soon I’ll start practicing your motifs! Thank you so much for all your creativity and coming up with something every day.

The Sulky thread is perfect (as is the motif!). I have been using that thread for a long time and love the sheen it has!!!! Great choice!!!
