The Boutonniere

March 15, 2016

Boutonniere, Free Motion Quilting, Lori Kennedy

Good Morning, Quilters!

By the time you read this I should be winging my way to Denver to film at Craftsy!

I didn’t want YOU to be bored while I was away…

Here’s an adorable flower for YOUR next quilt!

Boutonniere, Free Motion Quilting, Lori Kennedy

THE BOUTONNIERE-MACHINE QUILTING TUTORIAL

This adorable flower can be stitched in any size from small to large.  Use the Cute as a Button Tutorial in the center of the flower or keep it simple by stitching a plain circle center.

Begin stitching a straight line stem and a large circle.Boutonniere, Free Motion Quilting, Lori Kennedy

Echo stitch the circle and add the button detail. (Optional)

Stitch out of the circle near the stem…

Boutonniere, Free Motion Quilting, Lori KennedyStitch five to six scallops around the circle.
Boutonniere, Free Motion Quilting, Lori KennedyClosely echo stitch the stem and add two leaves.

Stitch to the bottom and over to begin the next flower.

Such a happy flower!

Change the look of the flowers by changing the petals…

Be creative!

Have fun quilting because when you do–your quilts will be fun!

Happy Stitching,

Lori

Congratulations on doing another Craftsy class….I absolutely love the Divide and Conquer class…..looking forward to the new one as well. We’re all so proud of you! I remember how ecstatic I was in finding the Inbox Jaunt a few years ago early in my fmq’ing….Your tutorials and easy, no-pressure style was not only helpful but encouraging as well. I will always be grateful to you, Lori. Best wishes and many blessings….

Oh this is too cute. I need a diversion from the chaos. I will try this one out today.
Flowers make me happy — mostly the ones on fabric, and drawn and sewn 😀
The real ones tend to make me sneeze a-ah-chooo

Super cute spring flowers and a great tutorial. I actually have a Spring quilt with applique flowers that this will be perfect for. Thanks. And I hope you are having a blast in Denver. Eager to learn more about your new class.

Kathy (WV), How lovely your accolades for Lori & her generosity.

I often believe that we take talented artists such as Lori for granted, with an “O.K, Here is another of Lori’s FMQ tutorials to try” with ought giving much thought to her daily sharing & encouragement. Thank you Cathy ever so much for your thoughtfulness which should make all of us more grateful.
