Good Morning, Quilters!

Just a quick reminder…

FREE Online Quilt Show!

The FREE Great Wisconsin Quilt Show begins today!

My class, Easy Machine Quilting will air on Saturday (September  from 1-1:45 CST and it will be followed by a LIVE Q & A!!!

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE ALL OF YOU THERE!!!!!

How to Mark the Sunburst Whole Cloth Quilt

Try a batting you haven’t used before to make a Quick Quilt Sandwich (Fat Quarter).

In the center of the fabric, mark an 8 inch square. (More on marking tools next week!)

Add a 2-1/2 inch border around the center square.

Draw a diagonal line across the center square. (This line will NOT be stitched!)

Mark 1/2 inch away on either side of the center line to create a 1 inch center line.

Create the Framework

Using a matching color thread, free motion quilt a slightly wavy line over all of the chalk lines.  (Do not stitch the center diagonal line.)

Optional:  closely echo stitch all of the wavy lines.

This creates a framework to fill in with motifs. Divide and Conquer!

Doodle Sunburst Variations

To create the Sunburst, stitch curved lines with small triangles.  Try placing the Sunburst in the corners and along the center line.

Divide the square into quarters and doodle more variations.

Stitch the Sunbursts

Use your thread sampler to choose a heavy weight thread in a contrasting color.

Stitch the Sunbursts.

Stitch the Borders

Try a new thread to create a border.

For more embellishment, add a row of spirals around the outer border.  I used the same thread for the outer spirals to reinforce the Sunburst colors.

Evaluate

What batting do you use most frequently?

Did YOU enjoy playing with new threads this week?

How does thread impact quilt design?

Does batting change the look as well as the feel of your quilt?

Tomorrow

A few tips on how to choose quilt batting and Sunburst Quilt variations.

Have fun quilting…because when YOU are having fun, YOUR quilts will shine!

Little Miss Sunshine (or at least trying to be!!!)

Love wool batting coupled with cotton batting, the relief and touch/feel is beautiful !
I’ve been planning to use 28 wt thread on plain solid fabric to see what that looks like.
I’m falling behind in lessons because I have a twin size quilt on the frame for my youngest grand daughter and that needs to be finished before too long! Want you to know Lori that I am really loving this sew along and all of your books! Thank you very much for helping me stay productive during this shelter in place time.❤️

Gracias Lory, eres una gran maestra, me encantan todos tus diseños, y sobre todo tus consejos me han ayudado a perder el miedo a usar la máquina de coser para quiltear.
