As you know, I use stencils frequently in my quilts. I used a child’s stencil for the Snow Crystal Quilt HERE and I used a stencil to stitch my Shamrock quilt last March. See the Shamrocks HERE. (The Shamrock Quilt is actually the Geranium Stencil #SCL-513.16.5)
Whenever I use a stencil, I “lori-ize” it by adding a lot of extra quilting. See The Red Flower Quilt HERE
Today, The Stencil Company is offering readers of The Inbox Jaunt five chances (Yes–five chances) to win my two favorite stencils–The Grid Stencils: SCL-461.00 and SCL -457-10
I use these stencils frequently to mark straight lines and grids.
In order to win one of the five sets…(and to keep you moving on your Quilt Notebooks–read more HERE)…tell me where you are from and how many UFOs (quilts only) you have counted so far…
The Giveaway will close on Sunday evening and winners will be announced on Wednesday. Winners will be chosen at random (no extra credit for high numbers of UFOs! ) NOTE–Due to the high cost of shipping–this is a US-only Giveaway–However, I would LOVE to hear from YOU about your UFOs even if you are not eligible to win…
Good luck and Happy Stitching!

Hello Lori, I am living in Springville, Tennessee – but I am truly a misplaced Michigander. I am new to quilting – maybe 5 years, maybe more. I have 2 finished quilts. From classes I have 3 UFO’s and then I have the never ending quilt (NEQ). This one was started after my first class a paper piecing log cabin, wanted to do it in blues and yellows for my master bedroom…….poor bedroom, good thing it is on the second floor – I should add that it is a QAYG. All the classes have been QAYG. I did finish on my own a baby quilt that I did FMQ on my DM. I have come a long way baby but not in projects.

Good afternoon Lori, I’m Wanda from Crofton, Maryland. I just got the “quilting bug” this summer when I took a quilting class called Stitches In Bloom. The reason I took the class was not necessarily to quilt but to learn exactly what all those feet for my sewing machine did. The quilt has appliqué flowers and tons of decorative stitches. I finished piecing the quilt and had a great time learning to appliqué, make piping, couching, you name it we did it on that quilt. I almost finished the quilting (you can tell a beginner did it but I love it) when one of my granddaughters fell in love with it. So I stopped working on my first quilt because I wanted to keep that and made her one for Christmas. Somehow I finished it. I can post a photo if you would like to see it. By then I was tired of quilting so I put together a nine patch. So I now have two UFOs. One needs about a week’s worth of quilting and the other to be quilted. They will be finished soon. Right now I’m working on a quilt as you go.
When I stared quilting this summer I started a quilt book with my projects listed and added a picture of finished projects. I have a couple of table runners in there. I also have a spiral notebook with details of fabric used and stitches used along with the pattern and my notes.
My daughter introduced me to your website. She, along with my sister and niece also quilt. I guess it was about time I joined in since my mother and grandmother also quilted. You could say it’s in our blood.
My sewing teacher says she has created a monster. My husband agrees but he really doesn’t mind.
Thanks for your wonderful tutorials. They have really been very helpful!

Hi, I am from Minnesota, but am currently living in Austin, Texas. I am very new to quilting so I only I have 3 UFOs at the moment. Right now my quilts are just sitting around waiting for me to get over my fear of free motion quilting. I love looking at all of your patterns!
Janice
Nashville TN and I have 9 ufo quilts and maybe a few more buried. Would love to get them done and quilted.
Judy
Grafton, Ohio…I have three UFO’s, but will be attending a mystery quilt weekend soon which will add a fourth to the list. The wanna do pile is extremely high, so it will take some real discipline to get the ufo’s done. Will make an honest effort to do just that!! Do want to thank you again for all the knowledge you share. I have learned so much. Appreciate all you teach us.
Dorothy Matheson
Central Texas here where we might get a little snow tomorrow morning. Won’t last very long.
I have 55 on my UFO list but many of those are in the I would like to do stage. Just ideas at this point.

Hi I live in sunny Mansfield,Ohio where this morning while my grandson was waiting for the bus it was 2. A little chilly to be outside. I have several, well let’s say 20 quilts that need quilted. These quilts are for ladies who are going through cancer or they are for Flying Horse Farms. This is a camp for children with health issues that keep them from going to regular camps. I do have several quilts that belong to me that also need quilted. Thanks for all the wonderful pictures and ideas.
Paula
Hello Lori from Valdez, Alaska! I have lots of UFOs and have deemed 2014 the year of the UFO at my house. I very quickly just finished 2 UFOs that were almost done and added them to my “to be quilted” pile. I now will start quilting the 7 quilt tops I have done. I’ll then go back to sewing on my 11 remaining UFOs. When these are done, my goal is to see how many stash quilts I can sew without buying any new fabric!!!! I’m pretty motivated! I love your notebook ideas. I already keep a quilt notebook, but added lots of new information to record from your ideas! Thanks for sharing!
Colleen
I haven’t finished counting my unfinished projects yet but I am getting close to 30. Yikes. I live in North Dakota and its been so cold I spend most of my time in my sewing room. I set weekly goals to keep me on track to finish the projects I have started. Love your blog and the chance to win!

Hi, I’m from Toronto, Ontario and have altogether far too many UFOs to count! If I were to count only quilt tops waiting to be quilted, the number is just slightly over 20. Part of the reason they are still not quilted is that I haven’t been able to decide on the appropriate quilting design — so I think those wonderful stencils would come in very handy!
Thanks for the chance at a great giveaway.

I’m from Nevada! I have about 3 or 4 quilt tops waiting to be finished !
Debra Revay
Hi, I’m Debra and I’m from Brownwood, Tx. Howdy y’all. I have 6 quilts that need to be quilted and lord only knows how many unfinished projects I have. I have one quilt that I am hand quilting and have been for years.lol Someday I hope to have them all done.
Marsha
Hi Lori, I live in Lyle, Washington or as I call it “the middle of nowhere”. It’s just my husband and I, our two dogs, some deer, coyotes, an occasional bear or cougar and not much else. It’s a good thing I have quilting to keep me sane. I have 6 UFO’s. Thank you for the wonderful tutorials and this giveaway!
Patti Kaplan
Hi Lori, Well counting was a bit painful. I have 13 UFO’s, some are almost there. I’d better get busy! today here in Wisconsin it’s a balmy 1 degree. Great idea for a give-away!
Donna Cousino
I am your neighbor in New Auburn, WI but we escaped to AZ for the winter with 2 sewing machines and lots of projects. Ladies, don’t despair it took me 17 yrs to complete my first quilt…., king size hand quilted. What was I thinking? Since then I have been learning to machine quilt. I have 4 tops to quilt and at least 6 UFO’s and many many projects on my bucket list!!!!! Love your blog. I am amazed how easy you make free motion quilting. . I need a bigger collection of stencils. Keep up the good work.
Judy @ GrandparentsPlus2
I’m from the seacoast of New Hampshire, have only been quilting a little over a year so I have less than five UFOs and am working hard to finish as I go. Thanks for the opportunity.
Barb N
Good morning! I’m from the south central mountains of Idaho where typically we get lots and lots of snow. But not this year! It’s cold though, so my sewing machine has been buzzing. I’m not sure how many UFO’s I have – I have fabric for about 7 quilts that I haven’t even started yet, so I don’t know if you count those as UFOs. I’ve just started marking quilts – it took a long time to trust the markers – and am so happy to have found your blog. Your work is so fine and such an inspiration for everyone – thanks!

I’m in Zephyrhills FL for the winter. I only have 3 UFO’s, and they are short term ones that will be completed soon. I used to have a huge stack, but the first year after my husband retired, I used the time to finish every top, project etc., that was lurking in my sewing room, only buying fabrics for backings when required. Spending most of a year machine quilting really increased my skills as a machine quilter using a home machine! This year, a dear friend has asked me to quilt a queen quilt for her, as her health prevents her spending time at her machine, As much as I love all aspects of quilting, I’m coming to love “doodling” with my machine the best!
Gina S.
Waverly Iowa, about 5 quilts ( glad i don’t have to tell you about my other ufo’s)
WyoPat
I am from Wyoming. I have 3 UFOs (pieced quilt tops) on my to-do list; these are machine embroidered blocks that will be incorporated into tops. I have 94 quilt tops waiting to be machine quilted–yikes, I need to get busy! I also have a goal to quilt 5 each month–and am behind already for January. I really like all of your tutorials and decided I would try new/different techniques on each quilt. Thank you for sharing.
Peggy
Anthem, Arizona Hi Lori, I actually only have one unfinished quilt that is totally marked and ready to free motion quilt….That was 10 years ago right after I bought my Bernina 630. I am finally gaining free motion confidence, since I retired and have taken some classes at Craftsy and from Cindy Needham. Your blog is an inspiration and I appreciate your tutorials…so clear with step by step approach. Thank you for sharing them with us. I just bought a Juki TL 2010, under $1,000 and love it for free motion quilting!!! Larger and higher area between needle and machine. I need to try Frixion pens for marking. Sorry you are still in a deep freeze. It was 78 here yesterday!
Marta
I love my Frixion pens but have to be careful on dark color fabrics… sometimes it leaves white lines after applying the heat. But I would never want to give them up!!
Ness
Giving the white line a shot of steam usually will makeit disappear…might help.
Lorna
My name is Lorna, Im from New Hampshire and right now I have 3 UFO quilt tops. Soon to be 4. I just found your blog and am going to teach myself FMQ on my domestic machine.
Martha Briese
From Lebanon Oregon.
Well, to be totally honest, I stopped counting at 29. So I have 29 UFO’s!! HA!!! If I continue to count I will probably cry!!! I did finish quilting the outer border of my grand-daughters quilt this morning and will get the binding on tomorrow, then get to work on her brothers identical, although a wee bit larger, quilt!! His blocks are pieced, just need to put them together :^) Very pleased with getting them their cuddle quilts done!!!
I LOVE stencils, there are so many options of quilting ideas with each!!! Thanks for the chance of winning and have a great weekend!!

Hi! I’m in Sunnyvale, California. I’m the current president of one of the local MQGs, and we’re doing a year-long UFO use ’em or lose ’em project, so I *know* that I have 27 UFOs! Yes, really.
Thanks for hosting a fun giveaway! I’m going to check out the stencil company now…
Terry Harman
Hi, I’m Terry from Elk Grove, CA and OMG I don’t want to put down how many UFO’s I have, but am making an effort this year to finish some!!
Laurel
I live in Bridgton, ME where I seem to have accumulated too many UFO’s! So far I’m up to 19 and counting. I need to learn how to quilt them which is why I wandered over to this site. I so enjoy your tutorials & am starting to feel more confident with loads of practice! Thanks for sharing & making it more attainable.
Liz
I am from Oregon. I have four UFOs. I have learned a lot from these postings. I love to free motion quilt on my old black Singer sewing machine.
Susan
Susan, from Southern Indiana , I have 6 quilts in progress and so many more swimming in my head every time I see new colors combinations, prints and fabrics. Love your site, I keep telling people about it. Your complete directions give us all hope we might quilt on our home machines.
Vickie
I live in Atlanta, GA. I’m usually pretty good about finishing my quilts, but I do have 4-5 UFOs. I’m not really too interested in going back to those because I learned what I needed to learn (like that I don’t want to do hand applique) and I’ve moved on!
Sharon
I am from Indianapolis. I have at least 20 tops that need to be quilted and even more quilts in some state of progress. I love your blog. It’s very inspirational.
Julie Mason
I am from Banks, Oregon and I think there are 29 UFO’s, but I seem to be adding to them somewhat regularly. Last year I finished a bunch of them, and this year I seem to be adding to the list.
Marcia
I have 2 UFOs. One has been in the works for more than 10 years. The other was designed to be a challenge quilt. I didn’t get it done in time for the challenge and it’s not something I’ll use in my home so I’m tryi g to figure out a way to repurpose it into something else.
Donna W
Hi Lori ~ Thanks for your wonderful blog. Your quilting tutorials have been so helpful and inspirational. I am from Baraboo, WI and started counting my UFOs. I am up to 12. And, I know I will find more. I do have 2 of the 12 ready to bind because of your encouragement. I finished quilting them, and they are going with me on a quilting retreat next week. Hopefully, I will get a couple more ready to take with me.
Kris Conant
I’m from Westbrook, Maine. I have about 6 UFO’s – mostly tops that need to be quilted. I am slowly working on getting them done. This was one of last year’s resolutions, and although I don’t have them all done yet, I have managed to complete a couple in the past year.
Claire
Claire from Mount Desert, ME. I’ve counted 12 UFOs (so far), but I like to call them WIPs (works in progress) and I only count the ones I’ve actually started; I don’t count the ones I’ve purchased supplies for but haven’t begun — I’d have countless WIPs then! That being said, I also have a long list of finished quilts. 🙂

Hi Lori, You have an awesome blog. So much to learn! I’m living in Silicon Valley, CA. Fell head over hills for quilting a little more than a year ago and began taking as many classes as I could to learn more…which has led to…too many unfinished projects! Probably 40ish. Oh my, so many that I don’t want to go count them, because it’s a tiny bit embarrassing. I have not completed even one yet! So my New Years resolution is only a few new BOMs and classes for my 2 new to me Berninas (820 & 730) and sew, sew, sewing my UFOs! I just love learning all there is to learn…which is endless. What a lovely life quilters lead!
Linda Prial
I’m from Wantagh, New York which is on Long Island. I have at least 5 UFOs, I don’t want ruin my tops with wonky quilting. So my resolution this year is to practice your designs, to gain confidence in my free motion quilting.
Brenda
Brenda from Fort Smith, AR. I have only 1 UFO as I just started quilting about a month ago.
CBB
I am from San Jose, CA and if I have to count all my UFO’s it would depress me, and I would stop buying fabric… and that would make me even more depressed 🙂
Joan
I’m Joan from Grand Rapids, Michigan. I have 7 UFO’s and 1 WIP. Two of my JFU’s are completed tops waiting to be sandwiched and quilted. The stencil would really come in handy for those projects.
Helen
Hi Lori,
I am from Olympia, Washington, and I have 5 UFO’s waiting to be quilted. I am making scrappy baby quilts for the Baby Bank at a local church to learn and practice free motion quilting.
Cindi C
I’m in chilly Gainesville, Georgia. And it was cold this morning. Do I really have to admit to how many UFO’s I have. Last count in various stages…30..in various stages. I love the piecing and the quilting…hate the sandwiching, but I have found a new (new to me) way to do that, so I’m making a dent in the pile.
Pam
Hello Lori from Chico, California. We are having no rain and need it badly! I probably have 10 UFOs but most of those are small sampler type pieces that need quilting by me and not sent out. I am always worried I will ruin the nice piecing I’ve done by my inexperience…that stops me cold so I need more practice and idea. I am so glad I found your blog 🙂 Thanks for the chance to win! Have a good Thursday! Pam
Betty Gracie
I am from West Virginia and if I have to count all my UFO’s it would depress me. LOL I know there are a lot in different phases of completion. If I can call it anything near completion.
Jane
Hi! I live in Ooltewah, TN and have about a dozen WIP, half of which are tops that need quilting. Thanks!
patibeck2013
Santa Clara, Utah…and had just found your site and started my notebook and then you said to count UFO’s. This brought a memory from when I went to my first quilt guild meeting and asked what they were talking about UFO’s? I had been a seamstress but always had a deadline for finishing projects and when told that UFO’s were unfinished projects …I could not believe you didn’t finish projects! Well ..I am a true quilter now…I wanted to learn so badly that I took every class and of course could not finish all the projects before another interesting class was being offered….can’t believe how the UFO’s have added up. This is my year to start finishing those half done projects. Writing them down and marking them off finished will make me feel so good.

Good Afternoon – I live 30 minutes from Pittsburgh Pa. I have 6 flimsies that I’m planning to quilt, one WIP that needs borders and 2 quilt kits to work on. Oh, and a few smaller projects (ie placemats, pillowcases and table toppers) in various stages of competion. I guess that about sums it up. But I love the idea of using templates on those 6 tops that need quilted. Maybe that would help kick-start my creativity! Thanks for the opportunity!
Julia
Hi Lori! I’ve recently moved to Westminster, Maryland, and am still trying to organize my quilting space. I have 4 UFOs waiting to be quilted and countless projects waiting in the wings. I enjoy your blog very much!
bobbie
Oh, my. 14 UFOs, mostly nearing the quilting stage. I could really use some stencils to help with that. Right now in Granite Bay, CA (outside Sacramento) we are headed toward the low and mid-70s for the next few days. But desperate for rain here and snow in the mountains-our only sources of water-in the third year of a drought.
