I love the idea of “getting moving” – especially when our first love is quilting – such a stationary passion! Now, if you are living in the New York area the only exercise you can do is dodge the raindrops! Eight days of rain and 5 more coming!

    Hey Everyone,

As a cancer survivor (almost), many things have a different perspective for me. I’ve always been a runner but now I am a power walker which is fine as I walk every day I can by a beautiful lake with so much wildlife; just being able to enjoy it all is a “Wonder.” The upper body weights keep me toned up & motivated–keeps the arm flab at bay. On the days the energy level isn’t there I walk our Golden’s or play with them in the yard; it all counts. The quilting is different & I get many ideas walking by the lake. It is hard to keep the momentum going but our health depends on it.

Keep going even if just little by little, it will creep up on you & soon become a habit–a healthy one. And, when I think of eating something just because it is there I remember that it will make walking harder tomorrow. It works for me.

    As always Lori, Thank You.

After I spent an hour “in the zone” yesterday at yoga, I praised myself for getting myself to class. Yes, I did not have any idea of what to make for dinner and there was many loads of laundry to do after I got home from work BUT I went! We have to make time for ourselves.

So far so good, I got 4,628 steps on my pedometer and is the goal for every day this week. Have been on target of 1,230 cal. a day. Walking treadmill today. I’m going to put the poster you had up about quitting on my sewing wall.
    Have a great day
    Tonia

Lori you have no idea how much I needed your extra motivation today. I was ready to give up because of back pain, but now I am halfway to my goal of walking for at least 30 minutes at least 4 times this week. Thank you so much!! 🙂

Quilting and working out are two of my favorite things. My solution is to get to the gym early in the am THEN quilt when I get home. Lifting, cycling and/or some cardio combat to get me warmed up, then fmq or quilting with rulers. What more can I ask for???

I am really loving this challenge. I am making progress too. I got my exercise bike ride in today plus keeping up with all the steps. The articles you had us read today are very helpful too. I have done some of the goal planning, but need to take that up a notch or two. Lists and goals do keep me motivated. I can say that I am so glad I started moving more last year. It does make a lot of difference. This year, I can see myself taking the next step to get toned up. The activity journal is something that I have never done and I find that just the act of doing it, changes how you proceed through the day. I am finding it a very worthwhile activity. I also quilted the border of a quilt.

OK, no time for exercise…until 8:30 at night. Got on the treadmill. I want those roses-or at least the satisfaction that I’m finally making fitness an important goal.

While everything you doodle and quilt is awesome, I found your small quilt, “A Year from NOW” (pictured above)…very inspiring. Since I’m not creative enough to simply “copy-quilt” it, would you please do a step-by-step demo of how to do this motivating, little wall hanging? Thanks so much for all the fantastic lessons, demos, videos, and classes!
