Good Morning, Quilters!
It’s time to shift from the pastels of Spring and into the rich colors of Summer!
Hurray! Hurray!
Hurray for the Red, White and Blue!
The Bachelor’s Buttons and Ajuga are blooming in my garden…
And I just finished a little vase quilt using the sample from The Chain Stitch Variations Tutorial
I added The Twist and The Easy Greek Key between the rows of Chain Stitches.
(We will be working on Boxed Stars (corners) next week!)
THREAD MATTERS
For the white Chain Stitch, I used 40 wt Rayon. The white is a high contrast against the blue, so it shows up very well.
For the red Twist and Greek Key, there is little color contrast between the thread and the fabric, so I used a heavy weight thread–Sulky’s 30wt cotton–to make it more visible. Then I used the bright red binding to really help “pop” the red threadwork.
Any finer thread would not show up as well.
I LOVE changing the flowers, vases and quilts in my house…
The change…like contrast in design….makes one “see” better!
And by now, I’m sure you see that this is a “Horizontal Composition”!
For more on different compositional styles, check out my Craftsy video: Divide and Conquer-Creative Machine Quilting.
What about YOU?
What thread is in YOUR machine right now?
What’s blooming in YOUR garden?
What’s decorating YOUR table?
We’d LOVE to hear!
Happy Summer Days,
Lori
