Quilt Market: A Few Trends

May 21, 2015

Quilt Market 2015Good Morning, Quilters and Quilt Lovers!

Welcome back to Quilt Show 2015 at The Inbox Jaunt--a virtual tour of Quilt Market viewed through the eyes of this inspired (and foot sore) Quilt Blogger (Winner of the Best Modern Quilt Blog–more on that next week!)  We’ve been viewing fabulous quilts all week.  If you’ve missed any…just keep scrolling to previous dates.

NOTE-I’ve provided all the information I have on the quilts and designers.   A few of the quilts are not identified–sorry!

What’s “on trend” for 2015?

WOOL IS “IN”

Wool was everywhere at Quilt Market.

Bright wool!   From Sue Spargo, The Wooly Lady, Purl and Loop, and In the Patch Designs…and many more!

TUFFETS ARE “IN”

What a great way to display fabric collections!

Does anyone have a link to a good tutorial for a tuffet?  I’m sure we all would LOVE to sew one!

My resolution from yesterday…get up two hours early to quilt…

Perhaps, I’ll stay UP two hours later…?!?

Sew many quilts…Sew little time,

Lori

What gorgeous items you filmed at the market!! Thank you for sharing with those of us unable to attend big events. I sucked in my breath at the beauty so many times, my Spouseman almost had to do CPR !! Your pillow with the iris..something with scalloped edges (little pillow?)..wowow… I need to ask the Lord if I may have another lifetime just to work on these projects..

For the pattern and information on the tuffet you have pictured: go to Tuffetsource.com. Sharon Combs website. She has everything you need. I took a Tuffet class from her in April and my Tuffet is absolutely adorable!! I will make another! If i could post a picture here of mine, I would.

Thanks! I love the size of that tuffet!

  • Thanks for sharing your photos and thoughts on trends. FYI, the link to the Timeless Treasures free pattern is currently only a data sheet with fabric requirements … no pattern is supplied 🙁

Sophie, how did you change the quilty logo to a photo (next to your name)?

  • Tavette

Your photography is really good and you’ve included something for each of our individual tastes. With so many people milling around it’s hard to get an unobstructed shot, but you’re our fearless leader and you did it!

Thanks for your reports from Quilt market, you seem to have found different things to the other blogs I’ve looked at, they all seem to show the same things. You have a great eye for colour and spotting the innovative.

  • We brought home the pattern name of that exact Tuffet cuz it’s so darn cute, but I can’t put my finger on the card right now. The feet you can get from Home Depot or someplace like that.

Cool! When you find it would you send us the info pretty please!?

Erin Underwood of Erin Underwood Quilts has a GREAT Tuffet pattern using her Creative Grids Ruler she designed.

I bought a pattern to make my tuffet. which is very similar to the one in the photo. It is gorgeous – almost all Denyse Schmidt.

Did you happen to notice or talk to anyone about how the wool quilts were quilted? I’m a longarmer and I tried to quilt a customers Sue Spargo quilt and actually had to give it back to her. I just love those quilts but the thickness of the wool prevented me from getting anywhere close to the applique areas and I did not like how the quilting looked so uneven. I tried raising my hopping foot to accommodate but that caused issues in the less thick background areas. I feel that a domestic machine would be better suited for the varying thickness than a longarm. If there is some way in the future that I would be able to adjust and work on these masterpieces, I would love to hear some ideas.

    • Terry Sheldon

Sandy, APQS has an article called Wool Appliqué on your Longarm on April 30, 2013. You can just Google that subject to get all kinds of hits. Hope this helps!

      • Sandy Lachowski

        Thanks. I’ll check that out.
