Have you read The Sargent Women? It profiles four women of the gilded age that Sargent painted, including of course Isabella Stewart Gardner. Since you seem to enjoy his paintings I think you’d enjoy the book.

John Singer Sargent is also one of my favorite painters. His ability to capture sunlight and shadows is so realistic that you almost have to do a second look to make sure it’s not a photograph.
