I found this photo on Tumblr and it made me laugh out loud. Then it gave me an idea…for a new quilt. Of course, I really shouldn’t start another new project, but sometimes I just can’t help myself…I did promise myself that I would only work on this a few minutes a day, so it will take a while…
First, I started with a piece of hand dyed fabric that looks a little like a chalkboard. The size is approximately 20 x 26 inches.
Then, I spray basted the quilt sandwich using Sullivan’s Quilt Basting Spray. (Remember to give this time to dry before you start quilting — otherwise, your needle will get gummed up and start skipping stitches–I know from experience…)
Finally, I added a grid-rather randomly. I just wanted some vertical and horizontal lines to keep the doodles from become too angled. I think this would be too distracting in this already chaotic overall pattern.
and here is what I have so far….
I plan to add a few at a time as the spirit moves me…I think it will be the perfect little wall hanging…

I’ve never heard of that brand of basting spray, but if you are looking to experiment a bit for one that won’t gum up your needle, I’d recommend 505. I’ve been using it for years. It works very effectively and the wait time on the drying is almost non-existent. Lovely idea, by the way. I really like it! 🙂

THIS IS SO GENIOUS… I have a friend who does doodles allay long – It would be so fun to make her a quilt of her doodles one day…. Thanks so much for sharing!
