Machine Quilting Great Combinations

June 11, 2018

Machine Quilting Motifs

Good Morning, Quilters!

Part of the art of machine quilting is learning how to combine motifs effectively.

Closely quilted motifs like The New Leaf often look great next to more open motifs like Circle Pop.

This combination of patterns works especially well because of the contrast between the straight lines in the leaf and curves of the circles.

And don’t forget–it’s always more interesting to add a little variety, for example, add an occasional spiral within the circles to create.

With my daughter’s wedding coming up soon, I guess I have winning combinations on my mind!

What about YOU?

Do YOU know any winning combinations?

Are they quilt motifs?

Or couples?

We’d LOVE to hear!

YOUR Friend,

The Cupid of Quilt Patterns,

Lori

I just finished a quilt for a boy child- through a local charity. The fabrics selected had sailboats and a seaside scene, so I drew a simp,e sailboat that I could repeat from a coup,e of sifferent starting points. I combined it with simple hooked semi spirals that could make you thing wind or waves. I used the hooks in the busy blocks and the sailboats in the border and the plain fabric blocks. I like how it turned out.

My winning combination is children and pets. They are so good for each other. They are never judgemental of each other, curl up together by the fire in the winter and run along the beach together in the summer. perfect combination.

I love this idea of leaves and the circles. Do you do a sample of this?? I always enjoy reading about your ideas and practicing them. Thanks.

I have both of your books, and have used several of your motifs in combination. In fact, I’m teaching FMQ at a quilt in August, and will recommend your first book as the One To Have By Your Machine, as it has great tips and tricks and a good grounding in the basics. Thank you!
