Machine Quilting and Paper Piecing

Girl Sewing, Paper Pieced Pattern

Good Morning, Quilters!

Today, I am pleased to highlight two quilts made by readers of The Inbox Jaunt.

Barbara Dahl and Anne Bullock shared photos of their quilts stitched from the patterns offered  by designer,  Peggy Aare.

Peggy is an amazing designer and has shared several of her patterns to our readers.

Find the FREE patterns on The Inbox Jaunt’s  Paper Piecing Page HERE

More patterns are available at Peggy’s website, Wisconsin Quilting.

THE HAMMERSHOI GIRL
Peggy used one of our Seamstresses in Fine Art –by Wilhelm Hammershoi to create The Girl Sewing pattern.
Hammershoi, Girl Sewing
BARBARA DAHL’S GIRL SEWING
Barbara Dahl used Peggy’s pattern and added her own twist–she attached a piece of fabric to create a 3D effect.  Barbara’s piecing is meticulous!
The quilting was done by Barbara’s friend and professional LAQ, Tracey Fisher.
Isn’t her quilting fabulous?  I love how the machine quilting enhances this quilt!  She created a wallpaper background and flowing line for her dress.

ANNE BULLOCK’S HERON

Peggy created The Morning Heron from one of my Silent Sunday photos.

Peggy created this pattern from the photo:

And Anne Bullock used the pattern to piece and quilt this fabulous quilt!

Anne’s choice of fabrics is lovely–and again, the quilting really enhances the quilt!

THANK YOU

Thanks you Peggy for supplying the patterns.

Thank you Anne and Barbara for sharing your photos!

Congratulations on a job well done!

For my friend I used to make a beautiful “Umbrella”, whose design I got from Peggy Aare. Great sewing. I will definitely sew another Umbrella for me
    Greetings from Poland 🙂

Greetings to Poland!! Have you tried my umbrella FMQ tutorials?

  • Barb Czarniecki

They are gorgeous! I have made blocks with paper piecing but have never designed one from a picture. I may have to add that to my list of things to try.

  • Beautiful work.

  • I got hooked on paper piecing after I took a class with Carol Doak. She’s an awesome teacher and a genuinely nice person. If you get the opportunity, I recommend any class she is teaching.

I have done paper piecing before, but never from a photo. So II’m curios about That missing step above… what tools/computer program was used to create each pattern above. Thanks!

  • Susan A

    Thanks for the inspiring quilts
I love to paper piece…I especially liked the photo showing how the heron picture was simplified from the photo…thanks

  • Love the wallpaper design – very creative! – and the fabric extending beyond the borders. Also love the quilting behind the heron. It’s great to see how the quilting does enhance the work. Thank you for sharing and inspiring all of us.

I love paper piecing. I enjoy the freezer paper method so there is no paper to tear off after sewing. PLUS you can reuse the pattern!

Very smart way she enhanced the girl sewing — love the wall paper design! I noticed it before you pointed it out! Lol! I will certainly check out Peggy’s designs!

  • They are both beautiful and a great example of texture with quilting.

  • Both are great, but Girl Sewing has boggled my mind by how perfect a capture this quilt is of the original artist’s picture. Congratulations Barbara and Ann.

  • JoyceO

Both quilts are beautiful! Well done ladies!!

  • I love paper piecing also. The quilts are great. I liked the crane on the beach the most.

  • Trish Herbers

I love paper piecing, and Carol Doak’s class explains it so well! Thanks for the inspiration

I do paper piece and love Carol Doak’s patterns. I started out very simply doing paper pieced patterns from Quilter’s Newsletter. They did a whole series for about a year. I recently taught the members of my guild by using a simply pattern (only 6 pieces) that I created – a landscape/mountain quilt. I added quilting and embroidery.
