Twelve Essential Skills for Quilters

Free Motion Quilting, Pumpkin, Acorn, Oak LeafHappy New Year!

I want to thank all of my faithful readers for all your kind words in 2014.

I am so grateful for the community we have established here!  Let’s keep it going in 2015!

 YOUR FAVORITE QUILT

In 2014, YOUR favorite was the Autumn Vase Quilt.  It is small quilt employing three tutorials:  Grid Pop, The Perfect Pumpkin and The Oak Leaf.

YOUR FAVORITE POST

By far and away YOUR favorite posts are the Tuesday Tutorials, but the winner in the non-tutorial category:

Twelve Essential Skills Every Quilter Must Know.

This post went viral on Pinterest and on Facebook…
Twelve Essential Skills for Quilters

I was a little surprised–as it doesn’t even include Free Motion Quilting as an “Essential Skill”…

I confess, I had to go back and re-read it.  The List was created after an Open Line Friday discussion–so YOU all helped create this list.

GOING FORWARD-2015

I have a lot of plans for 2015…exercise more, learn to stir fry, learn how to use my camera’s speed light, clean the basement…

I also have a few quilting goals/plans:

  • THE BOOK–coming Fall, 2015!!!!
  • Continue American Quilter Magazine Articles
  • A Webinar…Spring, 2015….
  • Teaching a few classes in Minnesota…Summer, 2015…
  • The Pattern Company…Summer, 2015….
  • Finish Claire and Andy’s wedding quilt before their anniversary in May!

A LOT OF BLOGGING GOALS-2105

  • Giveaways
  • Much more….

MY NUMBER ONE GOAL:

To get YOU (yes,  YOU!)…to FREE MOTION QUILT with CONFIDENCE!

Thanks for your wonderful tutorials – so clearly laid out and skillfully demonstrated! It’s not easy showing newbies how to succeed at FMQ. You gave me the confidence to try spirals and all their variations. Keep inspiring us!

  • Happy New Year, Lori. I want to say thank you for your wonderful blog. I’ve taken FMQ classes, bought and pored over FMQ books, but it’s been some of the tutorials and suggestions on your blog that have actually broken the ice, so to speak, and gotten me going. I’m looking forward to developing greater skill and confidence in 2015.

  • Happy new year! Thank you for all. We all appreciate your willingness to share.

  • Happy New Year! Yours sounds ambitious! But thank you for wanting to get me to be a confident FMQer! Well you know, me and all these other wonderful gals following you, learning from you. Thank you so much for the time you put into your blog, sharing your skills and teaching. Congrats on your upcoming book! You have so many exciting things coming in 2015!

  • Wow! You’ve got your work cut out for you this year. But I am very impressed and believe you will do it all! And I’m very much looking forward to owning your book. Best wishes for 2015, Lori.

  • Happy New Year Lori!

  • Your No.1 goal is also mine……I repeat the phrase “You can do it!” so much it must become wearisome at some point…..but I truly believe it (once the notion that it can be achieved somehow by “osmosis” and not “practice”!!!!!!!)!!!! Please, be sure to let us all know where your treks will take you…..teaching, etc, and when that book is published!!!! (a signed copy, if you please!!!!) Happy New Year and here’s to a “meet-up” at some point!!!!! Hugs………………..

  • Happy New Year Lori! I’ve been trying to add some photos to the flicker group three times and finally figured out how to do it!! So enjoy your blog and the push it gave me to do more free motion practise! Love the designs and especially your hint to put binding around the practise blocks and actually use them. Looking forward to a new year of learning. I also did a blog post on my blog and shared your wonderful website.

I appreciate your inspiration very much and have learned a lot from your presentations this past year. I am not even sure how I got to your website-it was just a “click” referenced from somewhere else. But, I am so glad I found it! Never before have I worked along with the presentation. But, I do that using your presentations. I also have the AQS magazine. I had a lot of Christmas company-the whole family. But, they have gone back home and I spent the past two days getting ready for the New Year. I have mapped out some goals and projects for the year-today is the day to get started. So, I will walk along with you and let you help me progress in my quilting journey. I especially like the wide variety of your presentation-I like the art as well as the tutoring. Thank you!
