I’ve been free-motion quilting since 2001 but still consider myself an intermediate quilter because I can’t keep my stitches as even as yours. How do you do it? I’m definitely a beginner machine appliquer.

  • phyllis schindeldecker

I am a intermediate at FMQ but a beginner at machine applique.

  • Teri Green

I am a beginnin intermediate free motion quilter. I’ve found your tutorials just the thing i needed to advance my FMQ skills. I am a beginning machine appliquer.

  • Joellyn Partyka

I would say I’m approaching an intermediate level of both free motion quilting and machine applique on my domestic machine, however I purchased a used stand up HQ16 and I’m having to learn free motion quilting all over again on it. I just don’t have the precision and it is a little frustrating. I love all your free motion quilting ideas!

  • Kathleen Ross

I am a beginner in free motion quilting and appliqué and have so much to learn. I have been busy taking online classes and buying supplies. I hope I win the thread.

  • Barbara Moore

Intermediate would describe my applique abilities. Beginner would definitely be my classification in the world of free motion quilting. I just bought my first fat quarters to begin quilting.

  • Marge Judge

Beginner at free motion quilting – experimenting on small quilts over the last several months and working my way up to bed size quilts. Intermediate for applique. A nice thread supply would help me advance!! 🙂

  • Trudi Storr

I am a beginner at both & can’t wait to learn more.

  • Connie Callahan

    A beginner in quilting
    Intermediate in machine appliqué

  • I am a thread junkie! I love playing with thread on my Bernina. I am an intermediate machine quilter and appliquer

  • I’m probably an intermediate in both FMQ and machine applique, but I’m totally out of practice on applique. I’ve fallen in love with modern quilting and love to try new patterns. So glad I found this site!

  • Wow — what a fantastic array of colors. I’ve never tried Sulky Rayon but it would be a pleasure to give it a go! I consider myself an Intermediate level FMQ on my domestic machine and same with Machine applique. I love to play with thread, machine, and colors! Thanks for the great giveaway…

  • Beginner quilter long time sewer, so I took to.quilting VERY quickly (and am fully addicted now) brand new going applique work, it was far easier than I was freaking out about.. next is FMQ and you are so so so inspiring me to jump in those waters!

  • I am definitely a beginner at machine appliqué. Have done needle turned hand appliqué for years and love it but the possibilities and variations of machine appliqué look like such fun, not to mention much quicker results. I’d call myself an intermediate free motion quilter. I mix straight or curvy lines using feed dogs and then fill in with fmq, which is so much more fun. I try to stitch without marking and improvise as I go. Haven’t tried Sulky thread yet but the colors and sheen are yummy.

I am an intermediate at FMQ and a beginner at applique

  • I am a beginner at FMQ and intermediate at Machine applique.

  • Mary Over

I am an intermediate free motion quilter, mostly on baby quilts. Love you’re website and anxious to try some of you’re quilting tutorials. Just have to keep off of Facebook and sew!

  • Trudy Keller

I am a beginner at both and I love to learn new things.

  • Carola S. De Pasuale

I am a beginner who is seriously interested in free motion quilting. I have not yet try Sulky rayon but I am very tempted thanks to your tutorials. I am finishing some of my UFOs in order to play with free motion. I am also a beginner in machine applique. I do mostly hand piecing, applique, and quilting, I am in the road a lot. But now I have some free time to fall in love with my sewing machine

  • Lori O'Shea

Guess I’d rate myself intermediate at both. Once I figure out ‘what’ design to quilt, I can usually accomplish it.

  • Kathy

Hi, new to your blog. I love it. Lots of good information here and will enjoy going through it all. I am an intermediate quilter and love new information regarding thread. Love both Sulky and Aurfil thread. Thank you for your inspiring posts.

  • Vicki Donoso

I am probably an advanced beginner at free motion quilting and machine applique. I started out trying to use pantographs, but found them too confining. Free motion quilting gives me freedom to experiment and often those experiments turn into design elements. I use both my domestic and mid-arm for quilting depending on the size of the piece and am now experimenting with more “modern quilting designs”. I just purchased a new domestic machine and have found it makes the machine applique much easier!

  • Leslie

I am a beginner in both. I make many, many mistakes, but think everything I make is beautiful!

  • I’m a beginner at FMQ, but I would say intermediate or better on applique. I’ve been sewing since I was 7 (I’m 57 now! LOL) and I’ve mostly made clothing for myself and my two daughters (23 & 25 now) and my granddaughter who is 4. Most of the quilts I’ve made have been ‘stitch in the ditch’ or tied until I started practicing FMQ. When I look at the beautiful stitches you and others have done, it makes me want to practice, practice, practice. Everyone at the office gives me their scrap paper from emails, etc., and I’ve been needle punching away on them! I’ve become a volunteer quilter for Quilts for Kids, so I’ve been trying out my newfound skills on them because I want everything I make that goes to Children’s Hospital here in Birmingham, AL to be beautiful for the kids! Thanks for everything you do and for sharing your expertise!

  • Colleen

I am a beginner at both. Love your tutorials!

  • Caroline Marshall

Definitely intermediate at machine quilting but a beginner at machine applique. I can muster up a satin stitch to go around a basic shape but that’s my limit!

  • Helen

I am a confident beginner with quilting–I have quilted for a few years but my projects have been fairly simple. I am definitely a beginner with machine quilting but your tutorials are inspiring me to do more! Thank you for such clear instructions.

  • connie barnett

I consider myself an intermediate but still learning. There is always something new to learn. Love machine and hand applique along with FMQ and SID.

  • I consider myself a beginner at both FMQ and machine applique. Although I have attempted FMQ over the years, I don’t feel comfortable with it and retreat back to the safety of Stitch in the Ditch and grid work. I enjoy machine applique, but don’t use it very often so I don’t consider myself beyond the beginner stage.

  • Lori M.

I am a beginner of both free motion quilting and applique of any type.

  • Jean Guenther

I am a beginner free motion quilter, but love all your tutorials to learn! I am an intermediate on appliqué. Your blog is fantastic!

  • I am a beginner in both free motion and Maxine application but sure am trying I am lol

  • I am a beginner to free motion and taking classes on craftsy, I would have to say that I am a beginner for applique but experienced at machine embroidery applique

  • Love to sew, but, I am a beginner to both quilting and applique. Haven’t had the nerve to try, but would love to have access to such wonderful thread so that I can.

  • I am a beginner at both. I have done a little of both but very simple stuff. I usually do hand quilting and applique because I’m not good at either on the machine.

  • Donna Knapp

I am a beginner at free motion, but probably between intermediate and advanced at applique. Just started to use Sulky thread and so far I am in love.

  • I’m an intermediate at both free motion quilting and machine appliqué I have started doing designs of curlicues. I’ve done many quilts with loops. I’ve done some machine appliqué & prefer it but don’t do much appliqué.

  • Beginner at free motion quilting, but intermediate at applique & machine embroidery.

  • Cassandra Hammond

Beginner would describe me on free motion quilting and advanced on machine embroidery.
