How to Quilt a Teapot Motif

February 13, 2018

Good Morning, Quilters and Tea-Lovers!

Last week we quilted a stack of teacups.

This week, let’s add a teapot!

Teapot, Machine Quilting, Lori Kennedy

Begin by stitching a large circle with a slightly squared off top.  ( Or, be creative and begin with any shape!)

Start stitching on the center bottom and stitch 1-1/2 revolutions, ending on the center top.

Teapot, Machine Quilting, Lori KennedyStitching from the center to the left, add a semi-circle.  Stitch the semi-circle 1-1/2 times, ending on the top.

Add a small circle, again stitching the circle 1-1/2 revolutions.

Echo stitch the right side of the lid and pot, then add a curved handle on the right side.Teapot, Machine Quilting, Lori Kennedy

Echo stitch the inside of the handle and the right side of the teapot–all the way to the bottom.

Add a half circle base and embellish the inside of the base (optional).

Stitch a short line to attach the oval to the side of the teapot and echo stitch back again.

Add a few curly lines to complete the Teapot Motif!

In just four minutes, a perfectly brewed pot of tea!!

I think a doodle quilt is brewing…

Won’t you join me in a spot of tea?

Lovely, just lovely. My sister Mary Catherine would have loved this design on a placemat. She was a true Tea Jenny. When another sister, Eileen, and I cleared out Mary’s house, we lost count of the teapots around the 75 mark. I brought home the largest (a 12 cupper with a picnic motif) and the smallest (a tiny one cupper with a bunny sprawled in a carrot patch on the lid) to remember her … and her obsession. Any time I think I might have too much stuff, I just think back to Mary’s teapots. I get a momentary pass.

How awesome. I don’t that many (about 60+), but I hope that when I am gone, some will be treasured as you are doing! How wonderful!

Love the teapot and the cups ready to fill and ‘specially, Maureen, I love your story about sister and her hoard. Glad you kept two of the many.

    Super cute!
I am planning to make my niece an expandable tote by Elaine Linn. One section of bag will be fabric with sandals. Would you have any ideas how to free motion sandals, starfish,a seahorse or other beachy things?
    Love your work!!
    Thanks so much!
