How to Quilt a Spaceship Quilting Pattern

March 31, 2020
Good Morning, Quilters!

Let’s learn how to quilt a Spaceship quilt pattern!

Our quilts will be OUT OF THIS WORLD! (even more so than usual!)

Last week, we stitched a Quarter Moon motif and The Moon and the Stars pattern.

Add your spaceship to the background pattern, or stitch a combination of designs in the horizontal borders.

How to Quilt a Spaceship Motif

This is not just any spaceship-we are quilting a flying saucer!

Begin by stitching a vertical line.

Add a rounded triangular shape.

Stitch on the left side of the triangle, stopping two stitches above the lower part of the triangle.

Add a short, curved line to create the left side. Next, add a horizontal curved line to create the bottom of the spaceship.

Add a short curved line to connect to the rounded triangle.

Stitch down two or three stitches and add a row of Dots and Dashes to create lights along the flying saucer.

Travel along the previous line of stitching on the lower edge of the sauce.  Add “landing gear” by stitching angled lines along the bottom edge.

Complete the motif by stitching on the previous line of stitching back to the original vertical line, or along the bottom of the motif to continue with another motif.

Add other shapes like Silly Spirals

More Galaxy Shapes Next Week

I’ll add a few planet shapes next week!

In the meantime, I hope you will be inspired to create your own flying saucer!

What about YOU?

Do YOU have a Galaxy Observer in YOUR family?

Would YOUR grandchild  like a Spaceship motif on his/her next quilt?

Is YOUR quilting OUT OF THIS WORLD?

We’d LOVE to hear!

From my Galaxy to YOURS!

Hi Lori… just love the space ships! Thanks for the info about free Blueprint classes. I own all of yours, but I watched them again, as well as some others. Gets your quilting juices flowing.
I’m still getting double posts from you.
Hangin there and wash your hands

This is so clever! It’s somewhat nostalgic too. It reminds me of the spaceship in the ’60’s TV show ‘Lost in Space’. I was a teenager back then – where DID the years go?

This is so cute! I don’t have anything going that it would be the right motif for, so I might have to invent something…..
