How to Quilt a Leprechaun’s Hat

March 17, 2020

How to Quilt a Leprechaun's Hat
via WeAllSew-BERNINA
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Quilters!

Today we are going to learn how to quilt a Leprechaun’s Hat!

Before we get started…

I hope YOU and YOUR loved ones are well!  We are living through a very difficult time. Like most of you, I  have been glued to the TV and internet reading and researching.  There’s a whole new vocabulary:  pandemic, coronavirus, social distancing and new protocols for extreme hand-washing and disinfecting and working from home offices.  Our normal routines are being disrupted causing even more stress.

Quilting in Times of Crisis

Once the emergency supplies are in place, many of us will return to quilting as a form of solace and comfort.  Quilters throughout history have stitched away their troubles–or at least, stitched their way through their troubles. Quilting is a relaxing, creative escape and for some of us, a welcome diversion from scrolling the internet!

I will continue to create new content that I hope will inspire you to quilt, doodle and sew.  While I can’t do anything about the pandemic, I hope I can help ease a little stress by providing a creative diversion.

How to Quilt a Leprechaun’s Hat

Today’s tutorial is sponsored by BERNINA’s We All Sew.

The step-by-step tutorial includes a short video.  You don’t need to own a BERNINA to follow along!

I stitched Paddy’s Leprechaun Hat on my BERNINA Q20 sit-down long arm.

Slow and Steady

When you watch the video, notice that I am not a fast quilter!

I am not fast, but I stitch at a fairly consistent speed.  When you are learning to control the length of your stitches, work on stitching at a consistent speed. Adjust your hands to move the quilt to create the desired stitch length.  LISTEN to the machine motor to help you maintain an even speed.  Strive for a steady humming sound. Avoid the revving and slowing sound.

More Quilting and Doodling!

Tomorrow we will continue our series, Better Quilting through Doodling and next week–a QUILT-A-LONG!

May God hold you in the palm of His hand,

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Thank you, Lori, for continuing to inspire and calm. I’m in one of the “shelter in place” counties in California and I’m definitely depending on my quilting for comfort!

Oh what a blessing you are in this extraordinary time. Thank you for encouraging us. We need distractions sometimes as well as hope for things to one day normalize again. Just the fact that you are continuing to teach and share your gifts with us is helpful. May God bless you as you have us. Cathie Houtcooper
