Good Morning, Quilters!

Often a blog hop, like a progressive party, is a way to celebrate something. In this case, we are celebrating Quilt-Artist-Extraordinaire, Deborah Boschert’s new book, Art Quilt Collage.
A REFERENCE BOOK OF TECHNIQUES
I am really excited to share this book with you because it contains so many fresh ideas about quilting. It is a technique book, chock full of inspiration.

I had an opportunity to chat with Deborah about her book last week…
After some initial silliness, I threw down a challenge…
Deborah offers a clear path of how to transform an inspiration (like a photo or a word) into a quilt. There are machine quilting and hand embroidery tips, design and composition suggestions,(including a design checklist), and a very interesting chapter on personal symbols.
I was really intrigued by the chapter on Finishing which include several options for edge treatments as well as a variety of ways to mount or hang a quilt. (I’m thinking some of my “Vase Quilts” might become mounted or framed “Art work”!)

I love the artwork being demonstrated in this beautiful book. What a fabulous combination of techniques! Fun video too! I think my symbol would have to be an iron…. I nearly always have one in my hand either pressing quilts or ironing clothing! Christine x

I enjoy getting and learning from your post each day. I look at it on my IPad before I even get out of bed. My special symbol is a hand. Hands do work, they caress a face, they gesture for meaning, and fold together in prayer. Hands tell a great deal about the person to whom they are attached. I would so enjoy this book should I be the happy winner of the blog hop!

I’m going to steal one of the ideas above…I love the idea of a dandelion, swaying with the breeze, little pieces going in all directions, making wishes come true, etc.

This looks like a great book, I’d really love to get more creative with my quilting. I think my personal symbol would be a tree. Firstly because I love trees and leaves but also because it symbolises growth which is what I want to do with my sewing, grow and learn new skills and techniques whenever I can.

Having given it a bit more thought…. since the last time I answered a ‘symbol’ question…. I think right now it would be a whistle. As in a coaches whistle….. I have been coaching others to release their inhibitions, angst or fear of something they haven’t done (for whatever reason, fear, trepidation, insecure about ability, etc) and giving them courage and assistance to move forward with assurance and self confidence.

My personal symbol would be a musical note entwined with thread and yarn! Probably should be wrapped in fabric but that would hide my symbol…kind of like I hide my stash! LOL! Would love the book…just starting to think along the lines of art quilts. Love small projects that finish quickly.

I have used many of Lori’s motives, such as dragonflies, birds, animals, fish in different projects. Recently started working with appliqué… A new challenge. My symbol would be a bicycle. I try to doodle it, to stitch, but not very successful… Hint hint… Learning something new is very exciting!

I really enjoyed the piece on Deborah Boschert’s book. The pictures are wonderful. Because I love oil painting and quilting equally, I would have to say my symbol would have to combine both a spool of thread with a paint brush.

I have a personal symbol when I hand quilt… I quilt the outline of my hand in the border of the quilt. In applique, I often use leaves. Deborah’s book looks wonderful! p.s. I love your blog.

wow, I never thought about what my personal symbol would be, but looking back to what I like to work with, I love autumn and use lots of pumpkins and leaves. So I choose pumpkins!
