Good Morning, Quilters!
I have exciting news to share…
After a few false starts and much deliberation, I have signed a book contract with Martingale Publishing! (Summer 2017)
YOU have been encouraging me to do this for sometime, and I finally summoned the courage to sign a contract…and trust me, it does take some courage!
I thought it would feel like signing myself up for a BIG TERM PAPER…and who would voluntarily do that?
Surprisingly, I have found it to be a relief in a way. I have been thinking about it for so long and have fragments of ideas floating around in my head constantly. So now that I’m actually writing, it feels like a weight has been lifted.
I will have to be very focused on writing and stitching samples…
and I don’t want to give up my walking and nutrition goals!
I’m sticking with my mantra #NoExcuses…10,000 steps/day!
What about YOU? Any big projects in your life? How are YOU going to maintain your fitness goals during YOUR busy season?
We’d LOVE to hear!
Lori

lots and lots of success in your new evdeavor and with keeping up all your goals, remember, if you slip, (or choose) all you have to do is get back up and keep going!
can’t wait to buy the new book, i’m sure it’ll be great. as it is, i’ve been keeping all your posts to use for reference. if it will help, i can send them to you!!!!!!!!!
Christine
I am so excited for you! I’m also happy for me because I think I would refer to a book more than my electronic sources. Our internet is a bit sporadic here..we’re out in boonies…so I avoid videos, etc.
I have not been speaking up but I’m enjoying your fitness push as well. I feel the same way and work to get my steps in daily. I have the Alta Fitbit after 2 1/2 y,ears of flex Fitbit. This one nudges me each hour if I haven’t really moved. Sometimes tough if traveling in car or plane but it is a good awareness.
Thanks for all you do to help with my free motion quilting. I keep saying I’m going to doodle each day as well as do my yoga stretches. Well…yoga is coming along. Optimistic for the doodling soon!

Congratulations! I know you will do a fantastic job on your book. I would think that you have so much already written from your blog to start with. I would like to see all those things in a book. I am visual. Also congratulations on your 10,000 steps!

What great news! You work so hard, and do such a wonderful job with this “blog”. I know the book will be GRRReat!!!

Congrats Lori! I just finished all my work for an AQS book due out this fall so I know it’s a lot of work, but also a labor of love because it was a lot of fun too! I can’t wait to buy a copy!
Theresa
I have been hoping that you would write that book. Every week you write a couple of what could be pages and give them away. You should reap some reward for your generosity. I learn so much from you.
Lori
Congratulations! So happy to hear that we will be able to buy you in book form! Internet is iffy at the cabin and I can get a lot of doodling time in there-thank you!

Congratulations. A big step but a very satisfying one in the long run. Lots of hard work leads to the excitement of seeing your ideas in print. Your book will be even more wonderful than your blog (possible!). Enjoy the experience.
Judy
I’d like to add my congratulations! Best wishes on your upcoming success with this new book. We all will be waiting for you to tell us it’s done and ready for purchase!

Terrific! That’s great man, even though I dont know how you’ll do it all. And as for fitness, I’m in a fitness group called Mary_thanes which benefits the Lnus foundation. So now I have double reason to do my 10,000 steps which my darling dog appreciates. Now if I’d only practice all your techniques more.
Sharon
Congratulations! I enjoy your blog so much and now it will be in book form, wow are we the lucky ones! I also try to get in my 10,000 steps per day and at least 10 flights of stairs. Some days it is a struggle but it is for our health so we keep doing it.

Long over-due book deal, Lori! I can’t wait to get my hands on it! Fitness goals: I’m working on 12,000 steps. (Love my Fitbit). Going to have a little medical procedure tomorrow that will help with this enormously — I’m ready to be strong!

Congratulations Lori. I know your book will be a great success. Enjoy the process and keep up the good work on your healthy goals.

I cannot tell you how happy I am for you…I remember commenting on the blog a few years ago that I had just found you and had been reading the archived posts and wondered why you didn’t do videos even though your step by step photos were great. I’m going to have to search my emails, but I remember how humble your answer to me was—-and look at you now! Craftsty teacher, a published author, and a fantastic person with a generous spirit—“give and it shall be given to you”—-I think this is just the beginning for you. Congratulations….it’s well-deserved. Thank you for sharing so much with your readers. I can’t tell you how much my fmq has improved thanks to you.

….sorry about that extra “t” in Craftsy…….I’m a bit “o.c.” I’ll admit! lol

You are going to do fabulous with your first book! Congratulations on moving forward with solid plans, Lori. As long as you maintain creative control over this endeavor ~ it’s will be a winner. You are so balanced and methodical already . . . something so many struggle to find and maintain. I’m excited for ya!!! And my exercise update is . . . adding aquatic exercise on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to my walking and circuit training on M/W/F. For me personally….letting go of the weekends is best. Going from nearly 100% stagnate to what I’m doing now is huge and healthy and I’m happy you’re holding my hand this whole way!!! Yay us!!! ***smiles***

Way to go!!!! Can’t wait to see it. It will be great. The first quilt I did free motion on was thanks to your tutorials. My quilt had fairies on it in a garden and it was the week you were showing flowers/bees/dragon fly. I had so much fun and it gave me so much confidence. Way to go!!!

Congratulations! As with anything new there is trepidation, but just please be yourself. Continue to follow your heart and share all those experiences you’ve gained as you’ve traveled your path and this book will be fantastic. I just know it’ll be great!

Adding to all the replies so far – congratulations! I can hardly wait. Your doodling has been such a help for me as I recoup from a badly fractured right wrist last Nov. It’s still touch to quilt but at least I can practice with pen and paper. Such fun and uplifting, thank you! On to the next lesson…. When I get stronger I plan to start the fitness part, hopefully with my 4-legged “child”.
Nikki
Congratulations!!! I’m looking forward to reading your book! And thanks for the extra motivation to move. I just upped my daily goal to 11k steps.
Caroline
I am so excited. I am on pins and needles waiting for this book. I can’t wait, guess I’ll have to go for a walk and wish you great success.

Exciting! I will be looking for it. I know it will be great, and I will be in line to get my copy. You have shared so much on this site and I was glad I happened across it. I signed up for both your Craftsy classes and enjoy them immensely. I enjoy your passion and love of your craft. Thanks for sharing.

So to answer the questions. My big project is a graduation T-shirt quilt. My movement is moderate, got to improve. I am on the roller coaster for fitness. Gotta get me a fit bit instead of wishing I had one.

HIP HIP HOORAY—HIP HIP HOORAY!
Our Lori is “off & running” in more ways than one! The thing is, you will be so busy Lori that I fear we will lose our daily dose of FMQ; nonetheless, we are so excited for you.
May GOD bless & keep you.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! 🙂 🙂 I know I am not the only one eagerly awaiting your book.
I have no large projects coming up but July 31 is year-end at work. I will really need to practice my breathing after that. lol

Congratulations, Lori! That is great news. I can hardly wait for the book! I know it will be fantastic. I’m keeping up with my exercise and eating goals. Who would have thought that I would get all that when I started to follow your blog to improve my free-motion quilting!
Suzanna Trail
That is great news, I’d been wishing you had a book. Hope there are lots of pictures!

Congratulations! That is exciting news. Looking forward to getting your book when it’s published.
Susan McFarland
Woo hoo!!!!! I can’t wait to buy one! Can we sign up to buy an autographed copy????

That’s wonderful! I love Martingale. I get a regular fix of quilts by reading their blog and browsing their books. Even when they are talking about books I already own, I enjoy reading about and scrolling through them on the computer. I really appreciate Martingale’s generous quilting spirit letting us take a good peek – like the inbox jaunt. I’m trying to go mostly digital these days, so they are great for that as well.
Shar
I’m happy for you in this new endeavor. Hard work has it’s rewards – you have been helping us to get and stay organized in our creative work. I can see that this is a good goal for you to achieve.
Nothing new for a while for me while I finish a few projects, but there is a new landscape triptych with my quilting buddies on the horizon.
Marjorie
I will buy the book, too. I love your approach to beautiful quilting as a part of a healthy life. Also doodling helps us artist wannabes feel more confidence … More can do. Less. Trepidation when it is time to quilt.
Also, might the book include a section on the ttypes of bobbin and hook assemblies that allow for a beautiful stitch. I know tension, thread choices, batting variables, as well as the elbow style of the quilter all play a role but If I can only have the beautiful quality of each individual straight stitch with a Bernina, it is something to consider for my next machine.
Thank you for all your encouragement. It radiates to other areas of my life, so thank you thank you thank you very much!

So happy for you!

Congratulations! I can’t wait to have a book with all the step by steps in it. I love your blog. It has been a real motivation for improving my skills in free motion.
