Martingale, Lori Kennedy

Good Morning, Quilters!

I have exciting news to share…

After a few false starts and much deliberation, I have signed a book contract with Martingale Publishing!  (Summer 2017)

YOU have been encouraging me to do this for sometime, and I finally summoned the courage to sign a contract…and trust me, it does take some courage!

I thought it would feel like signing myself up for a BIG TERM PAPER…and who would voluntarily do that?

Surprisingly, I have found it to be a relief in a way.  I have been thinking about it for so long and have fragments of ideas floating around in my head constantly.  So now that I’m actually writing, it feels like a weight has been lifted.

Book Writing, Lori Kennedy

I will have to be very focused on writing and stitching samples…

and I don’t want to give up my walking and nutrition goals!

I’m sticking with my mantra #NoExcuses…10,000 steps/day!

What about YOU?  Any big projects in your life?  How are YOU going to maintain your fitness goals during YOUR busy season?

We’d LOVE to hear!

Lori

Congratulations Lori…looking froward to seeing your new book…I’m sure it will be great to get inspiration from. Dorothy

  • Wonderful! I can imagine it is scary, but all of your fans can’t wait to have your book in their hands–me too! I find the only way I will get my 10,000 steps a day is to do most of it first thing in the morning. If I start thinking about my projects for the day, I lose motivation. (I say this as I am sitting here waisting time now with my work out clothes on trying to get myself out the door!)

Congratulations! Good for you for taking that leap. I sprained my ankle badly last weekend and totally sidelined my plans. Uhg. But ironically I did it while we were loading a Bowflex into the truck (from Craigslist) and there is a lot of nonweightbearing exercises you can do with it. So time to change things up. It does mess up quilting time for a bit though!

I have a summer quilt that has gotten put away to work on other projects. I just decided, after reading this blog, that it is going to the top of the list for this weekend. I have done a lot of the quilting already. I will clean my studio tonight so I can start fresh on Saturday. Putting this in writing makes me more committed for some reason.

I am so happy that you are putting your great ideas in a book. I look forward to having my own copy.

How brave you are, just trying to fit everything into your life. Signing on the dotted line must have been a watershed moment. I am really looking forward to seeing/reading your book. CONGRATULATIONS

  • I am so happy for you. I mention your name at every opportunity, guild meetings ,(VMQG), convos with other quilters … anyone that will give me their ear, basically! My work is very influenced by your instruction and creativity. I will definitely be adding it to my library. I hope you release in a digital format. I’m trying to go low paper in my world.
    Thank you.

You will write a wonderful book I am sure. I, on the other hand, have a different kind of rush. I am 84 years old and I have so many bundles of beautiful fabric I must use before I journey over to the other side. I really want to make 2 or 3 quilts so I am having to push myself out of my chair and up the stairs more often. Not and easy thing so wish me luck.

  • Carol

Yay! Congratulations! I think you will be very successful with this – you have a lot to teach.

  • Congratulations, Don’t stress out and enjoy the journey.

  • Linda Skroback

If you can tell us…will it be examples from this blog (I personally would love to be able to look through a book for these ideas) or new? Maybe you should write 2 books!

This book will fill in the gap- I won’t have to balance my computer on my lap in bed for my night reading :).

I love books and am delighted to hear you will be publishing one! I love being able to read and reread, to look at pictures or photos, highlight important details etc. I am so looking forward to your book.
I even managed to keep to 10,000 steps while on the Alaskan cruise – just got off today. The walking allowed me to indulge at meal and snack time. ?

    10 000 cheers for you.

I will buy the book, too. I love your approach to beautiful quilting as a part of a healthy life. Also doodling helps us artist wannabes feel more confidence … More can do. Less. Trepidation when it is time to quilt.

Also, might the book include a section on the ttypes of bobbin and hook assemblies that allow for a beautiful stitch. I know tension, thread choices, batting variables, as well as the elbow style of the quilter all play a role but If I can only have the beautiful quality of each individual straight stitch with a Bernina, it is something to consider for my next machine.
Thank you for all your encouragement. It radiates to other areas of my life, so thank you thank you thank you very much!

  • I’m happy for you in this new endeavor. Hard work has it’s rewards – you have been helping us to get and stay organized in our creative work. I can see that this is a good goal for you to achieve.

Nothing new for a while for me while I finish a few projects, but there is a new landscape triptych with my quilting buddies on the horizon.

  • Karen Falvey

That’s wonderful! I love Martingale. I get a regular fix of quilts by reading their blog and browsing their books. Even when they are talking about books I already own, I enjoy reading about and scrolling through them on the computer. I really appreciate Martingale’s generous quilting spirit letting us take a good peek – like the inbox jaunt. I’m trying to go mostly digital these days, so they are great for that as well.

  • Woo hoo!!!!! I can’t wait to buy one! Can we sign up to buy an autographed copy????

  • quilter1522

Congratulations! That is exciting news. Looking forward to getting your book when it’s published.

Congratulations, Lori! That is great news. I can hardly wait for the book! I know it will be fantastic. I’m keeping up with my exercise and eating goals. Who would have thought that I would get all that when I started to follow your blog to improve my free-motion quilting!

    HIP HIP HOORAY—HIP HIP HOORAY!

Our Lori is “off & running” in more ways than one! The thing is, you will be so busy Lori that I fear we will lose our daily dose of FMQ; nonetheless, we are so excited for you.

May GOD bless & keep you.

  • Exciting! I will be looking for it. I know it will be great, and I will be in line to get my copy. You have shared so much on this site and I was glad I happened across it. I signed up for both your Craftsy classes and enjoy them immensely. I enjoy your passion and love of your craft. Thanks for sharing.

    • So to answer the questions. My big project is a graduation T-shirt quilt. My movement is moderate, got to improve. I am on the roller coaster for fitness. Gotta get me a fit bit instead of wishing I had one.

  • Caroline

I am so excited. I am on pins and needles waiting for this book. I can’t wait, guess I’ll have to go for a walk and wish you great success.
