I believe in love. I mean, brilliant careers, rich lives, are seldom led without… just an element of love

  • Karen Poling

“I don’t know why we bother with corsets. Men don’t wear them and they look perfectly normal in their clothes”

  • Carolyn Hock

“There’s nothing simpler than avoiding people you don’t like. Avoiding one’s friends, that’s the real test.”

  • Deb Stribley

Violet: “I’m a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.”

  • Nina Urban

“Don’t worry I shall be magnanimous in victory”.

  • I love you Mr. Bates ! And I know it’s not ladylike to say so but I ‘m not a lady and I don’t pretend to be . Thanks for the chance to win this very generous giveaway .

  • I love Violet’s witty comments – will miss them!!! I loved her “What is a weekend?” Hope they make a sequel!!

  • Joellyn P.

Violet: “It’s true I think a woman’s place is eventually in the home, but there isn’t much harm in her having some fun before she gets there.”

  • There are so many! I love all the quotes mentioned so far, and no one delivers a line like Maggie Smith. One I also liked was Mrs Patmore speaking to Denker when trying to teach her how to make a broth – “I said to sweat the onions, but they fell down exhausted.” Thanks for the opportunity!

  • Louise

“You’re a woman with a brain and reasonable ability. Stop whining and find something to do.”
I am just starting season 4 and agree the costumes are fantastic! Check with your local library, that’s how I am watching it.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Allison Cotton

At my age one must ration one’s excitement.

  • Carolyn S

“We don’t always get our just desserts.”
Thank you for your generosity with the fabric – a calorie free dessert.

  • Carole S.

Today, my favorite is, “No life appears rewarding if you think too much about it.” Tomorrow, my favorite may well be something else. What a sweet giveaway (and what’s your secret to parting with that gorgeous fabric?!?!?)

  • Terrie

“Nothing succeeds like excess” was a great quote from Dowager Countess!
Thanks for the opportunity to win some of those fabrics!

  • What is a weekend? Dowager Countess

  • Pam Hotle

After Edith gets stood up at the altar, and O’Brien says: “Jilted at the altar, I don’t think I could stand the shame”, and Thomas replies: “Then it’s lucky no one ever asked you, isn’t it?”

  • Judy P

“What is a weekend?” Said by both the Dowager Countess and my boss at work.

Thank you — I very much enjoy your blog.

  • Mr. Carson’s best line ever. “The business of life is the acquisition of memories.” Classic! Motto to live by! Beautiful fabrics in the downtown abbey line!

  • Emily C

I love “Vulgarity is no substitute for wit”. So true.

  • Connie in Florissant

I am a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.

  • It’s good to be in love, whatever age. -Violet

  • Sue Wozniak

To Robert from the Dowager: “When you talk like that, I am tempted to call the Nanny and have you put to bed with no supper”.

  • C. J.

Isobel: “How you hate to be wrong.” Violet: “I wouldn’t know. I’m not familiar with the sensation.” Miss this show already! So civilized, such great characters and attention to detail – it was one of a kind.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

” Im a woman Mary , i can be contrary if i choose”

  • Ginnie

    “What’s a weekend?”

  • Deb Huehn

I wonder your halo doesn’t grow heavy. It must be like wearing a tiara around the clock.”

  • Sue Mentze

“Vulgarity is no substitute for wit.” -Dowager Countess

  • Janet Hanson

“Rosamind has no interest in French. If she wishes to be understood by a foreigner, she shouts.”

  • Rebecca Shaffer

I have many favorite Downton Abbey quotes, but my favorite quilting quote is “finished is better than perfect”.

  • “A lack of compassion can be as vulgar as an excess of tears”

  • mmcgloth2

I agree with Rebecca, “finished is better than perfect” nosiness like it was created for quilting.

  • Karen

Daisy: “I have never felt special to anyone”. How sad that she felt that way, but I have to admit I have been there before. Dreaming of a quilt to make with this gift if I am lucky enough to win.

  • Karen

Daisy: “I have never felt special to anyone.” How sad that she felt that way, but I must admit I have also felt that way. Dreaming of a quilt I could make if I win the fabric. Thank you for sharing.

  • Lady Mary : I should hate to be predictable.

  • “Ugh, how you hate to be wrong. ” “I wouldn’t know! I’m not familiar with the sensation.” ?

  • The Lisa Marie

“All life is a series of problems which we must try and solve.”

  • Janet Maddox

One of my favorite quotes is this one: Mrs. Hughes: “You can always hold my hand if you need to feel steady.” Carson: “I think I will hold your hand. It’ll make me feel a bit steadier.”

I am sad to see the show come to an end.

Thanks for the great give away.

  • I loved Violet’s zingers, but because I’m already feeling nostalgic for this show, Thomas Barrow’s “Even good things come to an end.” Followed by Tom’s “I hate goodbyes.”

  • Janice King

“Vulgarity is no substitute for wit.” -Dowager Countess. How we will miss all her opinions! Thanks for the opportunity to win some of this delicious fabric!!!

  • Dixie Middleton

“Oh, Dear have you swallowed a dictionary?”
I have to confess, I’ve never watch Downtown Abby, so I googled this quote.

  • Kaye M

Grandmama had so many great lines but it was so touching when she encouraged Lady Mary that she could marry for love!

  • Karen F.

I agree with several others: Finished is better than perfect as I have so many unfinished projects that my goal for this year is to get some of those actually done.

  • Lisa Marie

I’ve never watched Downton Abbey but I have bought a few of the fabrics to make a bag for my aunt, who is a big fan. Would love to make something else for her! As for quotes, one of my all time favorites is from Margaret Thatcher:
“Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.”

  • Sherry Moore

I never saw the show…:0( But the fabric is gorgeous! The only quote I can think of is “a stitch in time saves nine”.

  • Norma

Love your beautiful photography. I’m using the hibiscus photo as my desktop, so pretty. Hope that is ok. I was so glad that the ending of Downton left me feeling happy and that all is well for now. will miss all of them!

  • Laura Flaviani

“No one ever warns you about bringing up daughters. You think they are going to be like Little Women. Instead they are at each others throats from dawn till dusk.”

  • Lorraine Doyno Evans

Robert: There is nothing more ill-bred than trying to steal the affections of one’s dog.” (Season 5)

  • Kathy Wilson

    “If reason fails, try force”

  • Bev Schulte

Mr. Carson: Life’s altered you, as it’s altered me. And what would be the point of living if we didn’t let life change us?

  • Carol Jensen

    “What is a weekend?”
