Violet: “Why must every day involve a fight with an American?!” after having sat in a swivel chair in Matthew’s office which almost tipped her. The swivel chair was invented by Thomas Jefferson.
Loved the series and will miss it greatly. Thanks for the chance at the lovely fabric!

I don’t have specific quote, but I love the Mrs. Patmore’s exasperation with Daisy’s lack of appreciation of a good man.

“All of life is a series of problems which we must try and solve…” Violet

One of my favorite quotes was from Dowager Countess Violet “An aristocrat without money is as useful as a glass hammer. There were so many from her.
Debbie Cook
“I can’t cook! I can’t lift. But it’s not difficult. I’ll talk you through it, don’t worry. ” Mrs. Hughes giving subtle lessons to her beloved Mr. Carson, I love her. I will miss this wonderful program. Thanks for the chance to win this fabric.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE DOWNTON ABBEY. (And I love your blog) I work as a docent at a little installation museum in Anaheim, California call the Muzeo. In February 2017 we are having the costumes of Downton Abbey! I am so thrilled (the only west coast presentation)
I started at the Muzeo with their Quilt exhibition and have been with them since… thus the tie in. I would so love to have this fabric – you do not even know!
My favorite quote is from Violet of course here are some of the best:
“Last night! He looked so well. Of course it would happen to a foreigner. No Englishman would dream of dying in someone else’s house.”
“Sometimes I feel as if I were living in an H.G. Wells novel.”
“I’m a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.”
“If she won’t say yes when he might be poor, he won’t want her when he will be rich.”
“It always happens when you give these little people power, it goes to their heads like strong drink.”
Oh I want to win!
Thank you for the opportunity.

Lady Grantham: “I’m a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.”

I have 2 favorites!
Mrs. Hughes said “Stop flanneling & get on.” and
Robert, Earl of Grantham said “I must skedaddle.”
Downton Abbey will be missed. Thanks for the chance to win fabric.

It’s good to be in love whatever your age.

What a great show, and so nice that it ended with everyone happy! One of the best quotes, from The Dowager, Granny:
“What is a weekend?”
Hope the whole series replays soon!
Kathy Stolaruk
The Countess’s quips are always great. I always enjoy her exchanges with Isobel Crawley. Here’s one of those from season 1:
Violet: “You are quite wonderful the way you see room for improvement wherever you look. I never knew such reforming zeal.” Isobel: “I take that as a compliment.” Violet: “I must’ve said it wrong.”
Karen A
“I’m a woman Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.” Lady Grantham
Suzie
The last quip from Granny in the final episode as she responds to Lady Crawley’s remarks about looking forward and not backward – “If we only had the chance.”
Marie Nelson
Now that I am retired and able to quilt as often as I wish (every day, of course) , I really resonate with the Dowager when she said, “What is a weekend?”

Violet: “I’m a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.”

“We like strong women here,” Branson
Sheila Susen
A most wonderful series. My favorite quote (although she had many of the best, I think) was from the Dowager – “What is a weekend?” Thanks for the opportunity to win fabric inspired by Downton Abbey.
Jennifer
“Sometimes it’s good to rule by fear.” Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham. Or the other one that cracks me up – “Vulgarity is no substitute for wit.”

Thanks Lori for all you share with us. I am in process of watching your ‘Divide & Conquer’ class and really learning lots from it.
My favourite quote is “No guest should be admitted without the date of their departure settled.”

I am so glad I am living during the era that this show was made and shown. Love all the quotes mentioned here !!! Branson said a line that precipitated tears, as he joined the folks at the wedding reception. He was asked why he was back from America and he replied something on the order of : ” This is my family.” I also cried when Edith told Mary that after all would be said and done the two of them would share the same special memories of their family.(paraphrased). Thank you Lori for the giveaway. How typical of your graciousness to your fans.
Barbara
When asked, “What do you think makes the English the way we are?” The Dowager Countess replied, “Opinions differ; some say our history, but I blame the weather.”

I have been catching up on the series on the boxed set since I was behind the times when it started but I love the cook Mrs Patmore and her comment to Daisy the kitchen maid
“Daisy, what’s happened to you? I said you could go for a drink of water, not a trip up the Nile.”
It sounds so like the thousands of times I sent children to the bathroom when I was teaching elementary!
Rose Santuci-Sofranko
I like this one: Violet: “I’m not a romantic, but even I concede that the heart does not exist solely for the purpose to pump blood.” (Season 2) Thanks and God bless! ILuvTheEucharist (at) aol.com

I’m a woman, I can be as contrary as I choose. My favorite block is contrary wife, so that quote speaks to me
Carol in Arkansas
I missed so much of the show as I hadn’t seen the first seasons so never watched. But I’ve purchased the series and once unpacked from our recent move from Forest Lake Mn to Arkansas I plan to remedy that and also begin to learn fmq. I’ve done one small wall hanging and did fm on that. Really enjoyed it. Would love to have the fabric to start building a stash to play with. Thanks for the chance.
Reading through posts this is my favorite:
The business of life is the acquisition of memories.

Isobel: How you hate to be wrong.
Countess Violet: I wouldn’t know, I’m not familiar with the sensation.
Lynne Stucke.
Oh, no! I thought I had an original comment, but I see someone else loved it too. When asked why the English were the way they were. The dowager replied, ‘opinions vary. Some say our history, but I blame the weather.’ Having lived in the UK for 14 years, my husband and I nearly rolled off our chairs laughing! lynnstck@yahoo.com

“Every mountain is ‘unclimbable’ until someone climbs it.- Lord Grantham

“Bananas!” Spratt? Really? I laughed so hard. I did not see that coming at all. That episode was just one of the best ones, so much great stuff happened.
There are so many wonderful quotes. Thanks for sharing with your giveaway. Love your blog.

I was kind of late to Downtown Abbey, but how I loved it. The finale was wonderful. I am not very good at holding on to quotes, but I saw one recently that is a good lesson learned for me. “While we are postponing, life speeds by”. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway opportunity.

Thank you ever so much Lori for a chance to win D.A. Fabric.
Of course I loved that Mary was always referring to The Dowager (Maggie Smith) as GRANNY. Did I miss something or was Mary the only one who referred to Maggie as GRANNIE? Loved the entire series, especially the clothes & hats. Will so miss the show–now what to look forward to on Sunday evenings?
Brittany
Lady Sybil Crawley: I don’t know why we bother with corsets. Men don’t wear them, and they look perfectly normal in their clothes.
Barb Hauck
Love, love, love the entire series and all the characters, even Barrett! But, the Dowager Countess Violet had the best lines:
Mrs. Crawley: “I take that as a compliment.”
Countess Violet: “I must’ve said it wrong.”
Thanks so much for the give away. If I win the fabric, it’ll be put to very good use, trust me!
Karen Halliburton
What a wonderful life we’re going to have. Thank you for the chance to win!
Jo Olinger
So I took you up on the offer to Google a quote. I found a quote from Downtown Abbey and then tried to see if I could find a close quilting quote.
Downtown Abbey Quote: “I was right about my maid. She’s leaving – to get married! How could she be so selfish?”
Quilt Quote: “My husband said if I were to buy any more fabric, he would leave me. I‟m going to miss him!”
I also found a very inspiring quote. Thanks for the opportunity. I had fun searching and reading the various quotes.
Kathy Eyre
“First electricity, now telephones, sometimes I feel like I’m living in an H.G.Wells novel”
Susan
“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.” Mother Teresa
I haven’t been able to watch the show, but this is one of my favorite reminders.
Mary Olson
Anything Lady Crawley says, love her!!! Thanks for the giveaway offer.
