  • “It’s the job of grandmothers to interfere”, Violet, Dowager Countess
I will quote this when I want to give advice to my grandchildren. What a great idea on the day after the final episode.

  • The quote that brought a smile to my heart: “Seems a pity to miss such a good pudding!” By Dowager Countess

  • Virginia Biltgen

” Stop whining and find something to do”. The words I was raised by.

  • Merrie

    Forgive, Perhaps… Forget, Never
Thanks you for the chance to win

  • “Vulgarity is no substitute for wit.” This is my favorite. Good luck, everyone!

  • So very sad it’s over. “What’s a weekend?” without Downton Abbey?

  • Brenda

I loved when the Dowager (Maggie Smith) says “What’s a WEEKEND?”

  • Mary Grass

Quite frankly, Charlotte, I don’t give a damn!

  • Michelle A

“Vulgarity is no substitute for wit.”

  • GrrannyH

Along with “Finished is better than perfect,” I add,”No one can use it until it’s done.”

  • Ana Kempfer

Said to my kids many times: “Stop whining and find something to do!”

  • Vulgarity is no substitute for wit.

  • suzanprincess

Haven’t watched it yet–will Netflix it eventually–but my recently seen and now beloved quote is: My favorite fantasy is where fabric is free and quilting makes you thin.

  • Sorry, I don’t watch much TV – but my favorite stitching quote is, “If your applique does not come out perfect, eat more chocolate.”

  • LaNan

It’s the job of a grandmother to interfere! Great series to watch and sew to!!

  • I have not watched any of the episodes. Just couldn’t work it in my schedule at the time. I do plan to watch them in order some day. I do like the fabrics. For a quilting quote “You can’t finish a quilt if you don’t work on it!”

  • This hit a true note and I can’t forget it…….”We shout and scream and wail and cry, but in the end we all must die.”

  • Duane Wiley

There are so many great quotes! So happy that my daughter got me into watching the show. I made her a Downton Quilt last year as a special memory for us. I wished I had one favorite but they are all just fabulous! Because I am retired now but still working (LOL) I would have to quote “What’s a weekend!” and really mean it!

  • Beverly Wood

What a wonderful give away. I am sad the series is over but I will certainly be watching the series over as I sew and quilt. One of my favorite Violet quotes is” It is the job of Grandmothers to interfere” thank you for this opportunity.

  • Sheryl

    Lord Grantham – “Golly gumdrops!”

  • Marilyn Hefffelfinger

Of course it would happen to a foreigner, no Englishman would dream of dying in someone else’s house.

  • As with choosing fabric, there are so many fabulous ones from which to choose. “I am a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.” – or anything else Violet says. Thanks for a great contest!!!

  • Golly Gumdrops! (Lord Grantham) and “You’re a coward Mary, like every bully you’re a coward!” (Tom Branson)
I love the show and the fabric! Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Kathy Hughes

“The business of life is the acquisition of memories”.

  • Connie of Surprise

On why are the English the way they are the Dowager Duchess says “it’s the weather”

  • “They sometimes ask why the English are the way the are. I think it’s the weather.” Not an exact quote but close to what she said.

  • Denise

From the Dowager when asked if Cousin Isobel was entitled to put up an argument, the Countess Dowager replies,”Of course she’s entitled to put up an argument, she’s just not entitled to win it!”

  • Kathi

I haven’t watched much Downton Abbey so I’ll give you my favorite saying. I think it’s time for a F. A. R. T. (Fabric acquisition road trip).

  • “Stop whining and find something to do.” I’m sure if they weren’t royalty it would have been quilting. Thanks for the chance to win this fantastic giveaway.

  • Gotta go classic. “What’s a weekend.”

  • Nancy Sojka

“She’s so slight a real necklace would flatten her.”

  • “Does it ever get cold on the moral high ground?” Cousin Violet to the Dowager Countess. Oh, I will miss that show. ger.vandekleut@gmail.com

  • Tessa

The Dowager’s “Tell me…..does it ever get cold on the moral high ground?”

  • Margaret Duke

This is a quote I picked up from Bonnie Hunter: “If a piece of fabric is still ugly, then you haven’t cut it small enough.”

  • It has to be “What’s a weekend?” Delivered as only the Dowager Countess could deliver it!!!!

  • Does it ever get cold on the moral high ground?

  • Rosemaryflower

All of the quotes shared above are some of my favorites as well. 😀

Downton Abbey was a great series. I loved the final episode last evening. I am really pleased how the writers managed to get every little matter “sewn up” in the last season.
There were so many wonderful and funny quotes. So many!

I particularly loved the ones coming out of Mrs. Patmore, ….. as well as Mr Carson – well, many of the down stairs peeps.
Mr. Carson: “We shout and scream and wail and cry, but in the end we must all die” and Mrs. Hughes responds “Well, that’s cheered me up. Thank you. Now I’ll get on with my work.”

    Mrs Patmore:
Mr. Carson: Has tea gone up?
Mrs. Patmore: Not yet, O Great One.

Mrs. Patmore: Ooh, I like that Rudolph Valentino. Oh, he makes me shiver all over.
Mr Carson: What a very disturbing thought.

  • The Dowager Countess was the leader of quotes. One of my favorites: “Principles are like prayers. Noble of course. But awkward at a party.”

The series has ended far to soon. Thank you for the fabulous giveaway.

  • I am a woman. I can be as contrary as I choose to be. Thanks for the opportunity. Would love to win, as would all!!

  • Shirley Swenson

If life gives you scraps, make a quilt!

  • Denise Mohler

Mrs. Hughes: “You can always hold my hand if you need to feel steady.” Carson: “I think I will hold your hand. It’ll make me feel a bit steadier.” (Season 4)

  • Wendy

I’m so sorry to see it end! Here is my favorite quote…Mrs. Patmore: “Daisy, what’s happened to you? I said you could go for a drink of water, not a trip up the Nile.

  • The Dowager “I’m a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose.” Of course Mrs. Patmore had some good ones too!

  • Cora words,” I think the more adaptable we are, the more chance we have of getting through”. These words ring true in all our lives.

  • Anna Morin

I am afraid that you have read somewhere that rudeness in old age is amusing, which is quite wrong

  • Sarah C

Great giveaway. love Dame Maggie Smith. ” Stop whining dear and find something to do”

  • Finally Mary did the right thing and embraced her sister! Sister’s have secrets!

  • Dowager Countess, “One should never admit a guest until the date of departure is set.”

  • Cathy Tremblay

“Stop whining and find something to do”. Sew of course.

  • Connie in Florissant

I am a woman Mary I can be as contrary as I choose
I don’t think there could be a better quote than that
