Clouds-A Song to Share

December 31, 2012

Clouds

Our family friend, Zach Sobiech, has become an international star with nearly 1.5 million YouTube views of his song, Clouds.  Clouds is Zach’s story of his battle with osteosarcoma.  He is a truly amazing young man who has endured  a great deal over the past three years, but can rarely be seen without a smile on his face.  His story is truly inspiring and the music is poignant and lovely…He has been featured on CNN and FoxNews as well as many local and international news casts and has raised thousands of dollars for the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund.

Zach Sobiech, of Lakeland, Minnesota, doesn’t go far without his guitar in tow. Facing months to live, 17-year-old Zach is turning to music – writing and performing songs as a way to say goodbye to his friends and family. Zach was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2009.

Since his diagnosis, Zach has endured several surgeries and months of chemo. In May, 2012, the cancer spread to his pelvis and lungs. There are no known effective treatments left. As Zach fights to live, he remains the same joyful soul he has always been. He still smiles as brightly as he did before cancer – it just means more now.

Clouds by Zach Sobiech on YouTube

Well I fell down, down, down
Into this dark and lonely hole
There was no one there to care about me anymore

Clouds
And I needed a way to climb and grab a hold of the edge
You were sitting there holding a rope.

Clouds008

And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher
We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear

Clouds009
It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now.
When I get back on land
Well I’ll never get my chance
Be ready to live and it’ll be ripped right out of my hands

Clouds
Maybe someday we’ll take a little ride
We’ll go up, up, up and everything will be just fine.

Clouds
And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher
We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear.

Clouds
It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now
If only I had a little bit more time
If only I had a little bit more time with you.

Clouds
We could go up, up, up
And take that little ride
And sit there holding hands
And everything would be just right
And maybe someday I’ll see you again
We’ll float up in the clouds and we’ll never see the end.
And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher
We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear
It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now.

This is so poignant – he’s very talented. I hate cancer.

Zach’s mom describes cancer as a big bully that doesn’t know when to quit! Zach is amazing!

I started reading your post last night and couldn’t get thru, so heartbreaking. Today I listened to and bought Zach’s song at itunes. It’s just not fair. My gosh, I’m saddened by his story but inspired by his attitude. Good luck Zach.

Zach is so pleased to have people like his song…it gives him great comfort, but there is no easy way to face osteosarcoma. I’m so glad you took the time to listen, it really is inspirational!
