Birds and Whole Cloth Quilts

March 29, 2018

Little Bird, Free Motion Quilting, Lori Kennedy

Good Morning, Quilters!

It’s been a busy week here in snowy Minnesota–signing and packing books and working on a project to share next week!

My new book, More Free Motion Machine Quilting 1-2-3 is already on its way to anyone who pre-ordered!  I can’t wait to hear what YOU think!

There are more than 60 motifs (no repeats from Book 1) and several motifs that have never been seen before, including The Little Bird.  Isn’t she sweet?  Looks like she’s calling for food!

BIRDS/QUILTS

I love bird motifs and have created several small whole cloth bird quilts.

Here’s a partial gallery of my flock:

What about YOU?

Is there still snow on the ground where YOU live?

Are the birds chirping again?

Do YOU have any designs that you are frequently drawn to?

Have YOU received MORE Free Motion Machine Quilting 1-2-3?

What motifs are YOUR favorite?

We’d LOVE to hear!

Chirping away in Minnesota,

Lori

Lori, what kind of batting did you use in the first quilt shown in this post?

So sweet, Lori! I’m loving your new book and will be trying out your designs. I want to echo Mary Grass’s questions above about batting because your quilting is just lovely and really stands out. I searched your blogs about batting and have recently tried wool batting to make my quilting ‘pop’ more. It’s giving me more definition than the flatter cotton batting I usually use but not as much as I’d like. Do you ever use double batting?

I love your small quilts, but what do you do with them? Thanks for sharing your creativity! K. C.

love your birds. Am quilting a different motif on every section of a small table runner. Using many of your motif’s. Love Love Love your first book. Living in Calif. 71 degrees today. daffodils already bloomed out. I like leaves and flowers to quilt.
More organic. Need to perfect precise work. You give such detail. Thank you so much.

Got my new book Tuesday! It opens up so many new possibilities! Can’t wait to take it to my quilting group next week, as they have been waiting to see it, too. Thanks for little iris tucked inside. Texas is already warm and sunny, so working on your seashell motifs.

Still quite a bit of snow in my yard. Can’t wait for it to be gone!
Your little birds are so cute. I’d be hard pressed to choose a favorite.
I got your new book the other day. I love that it is autographed! Will have to have you autograph my other book sometime. It’s so fun to have a little piece of your work! I got one with a house and 3 little trees.

I received your book this afternoon and when my 2 year old granddaughter goes to bed tonight (sleepovers are so much fun) you will find me in my favorite chair reading and drooling over your drawings albeit with thread and needle!

Love all the birds, but Miss Olive gets my “hurrah” as she hurries to get going as she just heard there is a new bug hatch down on the next block.

I received my new book on Tues and have looked all thru it. I love it and refer to your books often when quilting a quilt…. Thanks also for the little sample you included and for signing the book. That makes the book extra special to me… Love your motifs.

Lori, what kind of batting did you use in the first birdie quilt shown above?

“MORE” came in Wednesday’s mail. Thank you for the inscription, and the coffee mug, and the tea cup, and for sharing the gift of YOUR fmq techniques. I glued the itty-bitties onto a couple of plain fridge magnets :). As you might guess, I am drawn to Christmas motifs, especially holly leaves & berries. (Never thought to have you write your inscription on THAT page – shucks.) Still drought-y here so not much snow … Just the snow banks remaining in the draws. I think I saw the backside of a robin a couple of days ago – probably wishing he would have stayed in Nebraska until after Easter as we will be headed down into the teens Saturday night. May you have a blessed Easter season.

Lori, You are so artistically talented, I am awed. Your step by step pictures are phenomenal and have helped me a great deal, and your advice to doodle is invaluable. I have your first book and am so happy you have a second. I can only imagine what you will be doing in a third!

My book just arrived and I can hardly wait to open it. Still trying to learn free-motion but just love all your “doodles” so practice will start soon. In the meantime I am dreaming of being able to do my own doodles someday with inspiration from your books and The Inbox Jaunt. Thank you so much.
