FREE MOTION QUILTING WITHOUT FEAR

As you all know, I have done everything I can to remove the fear and provide the inspiration for YOU all to begin free motion quilting…

If you’re still searching for something more–I think you’ll enjoy a newly published book written by a friend of The Inbox Jaunt:  Molly Hanson of SewWrongSewRight.

Molly Hanson: Free Motion Quilting for Beginners

Molly’s new book:  Free Motion Quilting for Beginners-and Those Who Think They Can’t is a step-by-step guide to getting started.   It is a real CAN-DO book which takes the fear out of free motion quilting.  From choosing thread to setting up your work space, Molly walks the reader through the process with easy explanations and  many photos.

Molly believes in keeping supplies and set up to a minimum.  Simple is best.

Molly includes several motifs in her book.  Yesterday’s Tuesday Tutorial:  Woodgrain was based on a motif in the book.

I probably average 3 hours a week. I wish it were much, much more!

  • Renae williams

I spend over 20 hours sewing and quilting each week. Love it!

  • Sheri Schoenebeck

15 happy (mostly!) hours a week.

  • I go in spurts. Because I am not as good as I would like to be, I tend to resist it in practice. But my heart/head would really like to do more.

  • Sheri Schoenebeck

15 happy (mostly!) hours a week.

  • jean whiteaker

I try to sew every day, but limited when work calls! Quilting is usually in spurts, when I start, I can’t stop, and can spend 8 – 10 hours quilting 2 or 3 quilts! It is great therapy!
Molly’s book looks like it would be a good one, love the woodgrain!

  • 20 -30 hours a week I spend quilting. Looking forward to learning new ways to add more quilting time to my schedule

  • Kathryn

This book sounds wonderful! Quilting time on any given day depends on my other responsibilities. In a perfect world I would quilt an hour or two each day but the reality is usually only two or three hours a week unless I’m pushing to finish a project by a deadline.

  • Denise Payment

I quilt or sew every day if I can. Probably do 6 or more hrs per week.

  • I probably spend at least 8-10 hours a week quilting/sewing (on top of working full time and taking care of my family!).

  • Janet–Canada –
I have just found your site and am very inspired to begin your special techniques. I have only tried free motion work yet, so I work only about 2 hours a week.
Thank you for your great site.

  • In the winter maybe 5-10 hours/week, but less when I’m gardening, maybe 0-4.

  • If I were able to retire I would spend daily Hours upon Hours…till then weekly Hours and LOVE every moment. COlor me Happy.

  • 10-15 HRS A WEEK

  • Ann in AL

I hope you are still taking entries…I quilt only off and on lately. Wish it were more but I seem to be sewing less now that hubby and I are both retired. :-/

  • PK in Texas

Not enough, – I work full time and can only spend an hour or two a night quilting, but I do take advantage of all the hours of the weekend I can.

  • quilting almost daily…usually any time after3AM…can’t sleep so I sew…might as well be a productive insomniac!

  • Diane Dashevsky

I usually spend 4-5 hours a day quilting since I suffer from severe insomnia!! If I can’t sleep, I may as well be productive!

  • PT in SC

Hmmm, that varies a good bit. Wish it was more, though.

  • Are you still taking entries? I’ve been quilting about five hours/week

  • Too much quilting is never enough!

  • 0 to 10 depending on how close the baby shower or birthday party is:)

  • bkringel

I usually get about 8 hours a week in, sometimes more, sometimes less.

  • 10-12 hours per week…would like to do more though…need more self-discipline!!

  • Lori Morton

Right now..seems to be shorter, but usually 10-15 hours.

  • My average is 5. But that is with working, 3 kids, etc. I practice FMQ on my tablet and then just paper and pen while waiting on kids at practice.

  • Karen Thurn

I recently retired so I’d have more time for fun things like quilting which I’ve been interested in. I made my first quilt at age 16 and then a couple of quilts since then but mostly other types of sewing until recently. I plan to spend 3-4 hours per day and hopefully will do some FMQ someday. This book would be very helpful. kthurn@bektel.com

  • Nancy Lamont

I quilt as often as I can but sadly it has only been a few hours a week lately

  • Helen Lee

Not nearly as many as I would like; right now only 2-3. I hope to have more time soon.

  • I’m a stay at home mom, homeschooling 5 kiddos, so if I get in a few hrs a week, I’m pretty happy. I also sew most of my clothes, and some of my girls’ clothes, too, so my sewing time is divided between quilting and other making……

  • Joyce Dennie

I look forward receiving your emails. I am so glad I found your website through Pinterest. You have so many ideas and very clear instructions. I spend about 2 hours a week sewing. Wish I could sew more. I think this book would help me take the fear out of free motion quilting.

  • The number of hours I spend quilting really depends on what I have going on. Probably 10 hours a week doing something quilty and more if I am lucky enough to get extra days off, I’d do more but I work full time and you have to have money to pay for your habit

  • Janet Ernst

I probably spend about 20 hours per week doing something that pertains to quilting. I relax when I sit at the sewing machine!!!!!!!! Thanks for the chance to win!!!!

  • Susan McGregor

I don’t get nearly enough time for quilting – maybe 4-5 hours a week. I’m looking forward to the day I am retired and can quilt to my heart’s content.

  • Louise

As much as I have free time and can stay awake! Some weeks none and others 8 – 20 hrs. Sometimes I can get in a whole Sat and Sun! Love your instructions! thanks so much for sharing.

  • The amount of time I spend quilting depends or what’s going on in my life and how I’m feeling. It varies from a couple of hours in one week to about 15 or 20 if I’m on a roll.

  • About 4 or 5 hours every week. Thanks for the opportunity to win the book!

  • Patty

I can’t seem to devote as much time as I would like. (Where does the time go? It is like the mystery of only one sock coming out of the washer — when you know you put two in!) I love “The Inbox Jaunt! You do beautiful work — also lovely photography!

  • Sandy K

Not to much during the summer. During fall and winter, about 4-5 hours a week.

  • Vicki H

On average about 2-3 hours a week.

  • Every spare minute – and if I am not actually sewing I am thinking about it! I have been learning FMQ this year and look forward to your posts for new motifs to practice. Looks like a great book – loving the messenger bag!

  • Evelyne Giannantonio

Although I wish I could devote more time to quilting, it depends on the time of year for me. Right now I am engrossed in preparations for the holidays so I can only devote maybe 2 – 3 hours a week to quilting. Come January when all the decorations are put away and the outside temperatures don’t encourage me to go out, I am able to devote more time in front of my machine. I am a newcomer to FMQ–and I would say I spend about 7 – 8 hours a week to quilting after the holidays. I would love to do more but I am tentative about trying new projects.

  • Teri Green

About 1 hour per week right now… not enough time.

  • Robyn Odneal

Lately it seems I’m lucky to get in half an hour a week, but, with the holidays coming I’ll actually get a little time. I want to get better at my quilting since I have a backlog of projects to deal with.

  • Mary Katherine Heeb

On average about 10 hears a week.

  • Peggy Finney

Minimum one hour a day but usually lots more. Thanks for the opportunity.

  • Dolores Good

    I quilt about 28 hours a week.

  • Sheryl Jones

I quilt as much as I can, but it’s only around 2 or 3 hours a week. Thanks for this great giveaway.

  • Minimum, I probably spend 4 hours a week quilting. Wish it were more but life seems to get in the way!

  • BjoLiz

Usually between 8-10 hours a week.
