Today is your lucky day! On newsstands now the September edition of American Quilter Magazine and it’s loaded with lots of good stuff.
In addition to “My Line with Lori Kennedy”–5 pages of free motion quilting, there’s a great article about Freddy Moran–the very colorful, Freddy Moran–that you won’t want to miss.
(In an upcoming post, I’ll show you my Freddy Moran inspired quilt–it’s over 10 years old and still much-loved!
Last time we had winners from all over the world…a little “quilting-ambassadorship”…
This month, winners must be from the US or Canada…
Please leave a comment…
What are your favorite motifs?… OR
What motifs would YOU like to see in free motion quilting?
I will choose three winners at random. Winners announced on Monday, September 1.
Good Luck,
Lori

I love swirls – I can actually do them, lol.

I recently finished a crib quilt and it had dinos on it. I used a palm design on it and it came out really neat. The palm was from the background. I traced it and enlarged it a bit. The palm quilting really stood out on the minky back.

I love the flowers all over! They make me smile. Oh, and also the flowers in the pots.

I think Swirling Stars is still my favorite, but the little heart border is also a lot of fun. Thank you for all of your designs and tutorials!

I love all your tutes on FMQ, great to try on minis.

I enjoy learning new patterns. Your blog is so very helpful. I’d love to win this magazine!

I love your Daisy, and spiral one. I’m trying to finish something to use it on. I like to do daisy’s and flower type free motion, also loops and stars have found their way into my quilts. I desire to learn how to make feathers, but it seems beyond my abilities at the moment.
Beverly
I love anything with flowers, vines, or leaves.
Debbie Horton
The Picket Fence. It was one of the first motifs of yours that I used on an inner border of a quilt. It fit the quilt perfectly and prettily. Thanks!
Mary Huey
The newest design you share always seems to be my favorite, but I really appreciate the “narrow” border ideas.

Toutes mes félicitations, vous le méritez bien

Spirals seem to be easier as I am a novice at best.

Hi Lori,
I would be ecstatic to win a copy of the magazine. Have you thought about creating a daschund motif? There are quite a number of daschund/quilters.
Thanks,
Janet

I am such a beginner at FMQ that I do not have a favorite motif. I am still learning to do basic feathers and swirls. Actually feathers are my favorite motifs so I do keep giving them a trial on the practice donation quilts I make. The donation quilt I am doing right now has swirls and hearts in each of the nine patch blocks. Also a few circles to make pebbles. At least it will be quilted and finished and my swirls have improved while I have made it.

Loved the turtle ones.
Lynn McBroom
My favorite are flowers and leaves that are swirling across space rather than contained within preset lines.

I love to try different motifs, right now I have to get out of the “stipple” mode and force myself to try something new. It’s scary out there but I know that it just takes practice, practice and more practice. Thanks for the giveaway.
Jackie
I love the pine cones and pine boughs! Still practicing on them tho

I like your Basic Leaf and your Townhouses for their ability to be turned into something with a local look, and anything with waves or wind with little motifs within.. for their speed.

I’d like to see more all over motifs or ways to take some of your line motifs and make them into all overs. Thank you so much for all the inspiration you’ve given me. Your teaching style is just right for me. Thanks for the giveaway.
Cindy
I like dizzy daisy, and leaves and swirls.
Phyllis
I am just starting to learn FMQ so I guess that anything that I could do quickly would turn out to be a favorite. I love your site, I look forward to it each morning, I too would like to see a book with all your motifs in it!
Delaine Nored
I find grid styles less intimidating. So maybe a grid with a flourish!

My favorites are anything with swirls in it. I love swirls, and they are even better when you add flowers or something to them. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful work. Your designs are very helpful to me while I am learning FMQ.

I found a motif of a purple heart medal. It got tricky when the lines were close. I used it on thecorners of my brothers Quilt of Valor. I put one on reach corners to signify his being wounded 3 times in Vietnam. And the 4th. corner got my signature

Love feathers but no matter how much I practice, they start ok and then go down hill, fast. Fall is my favorite season and would love to see some fmq tutorials on maple or oak leaves and feathers.

I love the dizzy daisy free-motion quilting from yesterday and the echo quilting designs best. I am kind of scare of free-motion but would love to learn . Your tutorials are great!

What about a freemotion design of seahorse shapes, Lori? I am planning a beach quilt one day and it would not be complete without my beloved seahorses! I would love to be able to do both a fill design as well as a border one. The fill could be fun with pebbles, seaweed, etc. Yep, I’m getting inspired just talking about it!!!
Thanks for all the wonderful inspiration you share with us – and a great giveaway too!

I love to use your themed motifs like your pumpkin for fall themed quilts. For all purpose themes I use feathers and floral/leaves/flourishes. I enjoy practicing your tutorials ~ they have inspired a lot of my FMQ. Thanks for the great tutorials.
