Good Morning, Quilters!

I’m back from the most fabulous trip to The John C. Campbell Folk School. Later this week,  I will tell you all about the Folk School and the amazing students.  But there’s work first—we have to pick apples!

Apples are the quintessential fall motif.  They represent the bounty of autumn, back-to-school, good health…

There’s an apple for every appetite (and every quilt!)

THE SWEETHEART APPLE – A MACHINE QUILTING TUTORIAL

Begin by drawing any size square.  For the example here, the squares are 2-1/2 inches.

Begin stitching along the bottom line.  Stitch to the center of the bottom line.

Stitch the letter “C” from bottom, up.

Add a short stem line, stitch over 2 – 3 stitches and stitch to the middle of the stem line.  Stop.

Add a simple leaf, then continue down the stem.

Add a backward “C” to complete the right side of the apple.

Stitch a vertical line up the center of the apple, then closely echo stitch the right side of the centerline.

Add a spiral.

Spiral to the outside–closely echo stitching the previous line.

Cross the centerline to stitch the left spiral.

Closely echo stitch the outside of the spiral. Stitch under the Apple with a wavy to begin the next motif in the row or knot off for a single motif.

Yum!–Add a little peanut butter or caramel…
