Good Morning, Quilters and Flower-Lovers!
Today we have a motif straight from the garden (well not yet…my garden is mostly weeds and blooming crabapple trees…but the rest of the garden is poking up their sleepy little heads waiting for the SUN to come out in full force!) Spring is slow to develop here in Minnesota…
THE SUNFLOWER FREE MOTION QUILT MOTIF
The Sunflower begins with the Dots and Dashes motif.
Draw parallel lines equidistant apart. (In the tutorial below, the lines are one inch apart.)
Next stitch clockwise and counter-clockwise circles, separated by a long “dashes” along the line.
Echo stitch the stem, then add three scallops around the circle to the bottom stem.
Add three more scallops on the left side of the circle (Dot).
Stitch around the circle, tracing the ON the stitches to the bottom of the circle.
Echo stitch next to the stem and add a pair of leaves, perpendicular to the stem.
Stitch a Sunflower on every “Dot” or stitch alternate rows of Sunflowers and plain “Dots and Dashes” for this cheery little background fill pattern.
It would be very easy to create a vine effect with this motif by adding a little curve to the “Dashes”
You already know what I’m going to recommend, right???
Doodle Away to find YOUR favorite variation of this pattern!
Cheeri-O!

PS. This tutorial was stitched with Sulky Rayon 30wt on top and Sulky 60 wt polyester in the bobbin using a size 90 Topstitch needle on my BERNINA 820 (without a stitch regulator.)

No time for quilting today. Planting canola and don’t you know his job takes preference. But nothing says I can’t be quilting in my head, trying to figure what to quilt on the quilt laying on the sewing machine. That way, I can change my mind al day long.

Ahhh-dorable!!! I love this one too! So cute. I find myself doodling absentmindedly while on the phone etc. all the time and mixed the daisy one that’s similar to this with my chicken tracks and it looked so cute in pen and ink anyways! Guy has learned not to leave important mail laying around on the counter…it just might get decorated. LOL!

^^ Ugh, Doreen, so sorry.
It is going to be 87º here today I thinkkkk
I get to take the peeps to the podiatrist….
I want to make this sunny flowery flower. I love sunflowers. I have not planted any seeds this year, …. time. Big Problem these days. I need a minion.
Anyway, I am going to try this. It might look great in a bigger scale you think?
okay, I am just ruminating what to make for my new very first grandbaby’s first quilt
I stick with small stuff. The larger projects get neatly folded and filed hahaha
Have a happy snappy day, Lori❤️

Oh, I have made the quilt (s) already, I just need some ideas for that
dreaded nail biting quilting part. I quiver in fear that I will mess it up and be a shame to the community.

So cute and just what’s needed on this very chilly (furnace running as I type this!) overcast/drippy May(!?) morning. With the possibility of light frost in some areas tonight, it’s difficult to remember that Memorial Day is coming up shortly!!! Have a great quilty day……………………………….
