Good Morning, Quilters!
Have YOU been keeping up with the free blocks offered for The Splendid Sampler 2?
This is the fifth week-(Read about my organization tips HERE) – and I was already behind, but I’m caught up now!
This week’s block is called Point Taken by Susan Ache, author of Start with Strips
Download the FREE Splendid Sampler 2 patterns HERE.
There are 32 pieces in this six-inch block!
I used my small OLFA cutter (love the snap on blade) to cut the small pieces.
After stitching the triangles, draw a diagonal stitching line across the small center squares. It’s easier to do this if you have fine grit sandpaper–or if you can’t find yours–ahem–place the squares on a textured paper or even your cutting board–something that isn’t too smooth.
Line the small squares on top and stitch along the line. Do you see the mistake I almost made below???
Be sure to line the small squares on the correct triangle!
Precision piecing is not my speciality–so this is “PERFECT”!!!
WHICH IS MY BLOCK???
I’m one of the designers for The Splendid Sampler 2–and my block made the cover! Only one person so far has guessed which is my block!! Can YOU guess?
WHAT’S YOUR SPECIALTY?
I’m really enjoying the variety of techniques used in the Splendid Sampler 2. It’s definitely not a beginner’s quilt, but it is a great refresher course for applique, embroidery, precision piecing and color theory!
As I go along, I am thinking about how to quilt each block…more on that soon!
What about YOU?
Are YOU stitching The Splendid Sampler 2?
Do YOU have a favorite technique?
Is there a technique you could use a little help with?
We’d LOVE to hear!
Happy Quilt Cross Training!
Where o where has my little sandpaper gone oh where oh where could it be!?
Good thing I’m not a shepherd!

Is it the 3 flowers with the clam shells?

I have been having great difficulty downloading any of the free blocks☹️. Are the links srill working or am I doing something wrong? I would love to play along.

Yes, they are still working. Follow this link and scroll down to a post dated June 14, 2018. That is the first one. Scroll down to green font to download the first pattern. You can also sign up for email notifications.

My guess for your block is the sleeping kitty. They’re all cute but it seems like the thread sketching is something you do best.

Hi, Lori! I think your block is in the upper left corner. It’s a cutie!

OK I think I already guessed the sewing machine so this time I will guess the camper!! You always make such cute things BUT they are all cute!!!

I’m not good at appliqué, but I’d love to challenge myself with the Bird and Sewing Machine. Maybe one of those is Yours! But I love them all, and I’m committed to do all 100 blocks. My blocks may not all be perfect, but it’s a personal challenge for me, as I have difficulty finishing projects … I enjoy piecing the best, and have done some embroidery; but I get tense with appliqué; so I’m hoping by the end of this Sampler, I will have learned and improved some of my skills. Thanks for the tips & demo for Block “Point Taken”.

Hi Lori, Any of those could be yours. I can’t tell !
I’m still practicing my FMQ. That’s taking up a lot of my time but I’m determined! You and I have a date later today on Craftsy 🙂 Love your class!

The bird, top row!

Hi Lori. I’m guessing the sewing machine block also. I had my husband cut a thin, rectangular piece of plywood, then we glued sandpaper onto it to make a surface for drawing upon . It’s about 16″ by 22″, so it is stored in the same place as my cutting mats, and it’s difficult to lose.

I’m thinking it’s the bowl with fruit (or yarn?)

Love reading everything you write. Now doing is another problem. I want to understand the technique on the triangles with the small block. Please explain the sandpaper purpose and I am lost to how the square was attached and made that center block.
Thanks so much!

Love the color balance and graceful strong lines of the block in row 3, column 2. It looks like a curved square in a square or cathedral window. Could that be yours?

My guess is the cute little bird!

Oh dear, I haven’t started yet! We have just staged our large quilt show, called Festival of Quilts, in Adelaide, South Australia. Being on the organising Committee, (as well as on the Guild Executive Committee), I had to put in entries including Challenges, as well as be on deck for a full week and this week is the wrap up, get bills paid etc.
I will try to catch up on the weekend! At least I have my colour palette organised. 😄

I can’t wait to find out which is your block … but my guess is it is the little bird. 🙂

I’m doing the Splendid Sampler and am keeping up so far. I much prefer piecing to applique so the applique has been a challenge. I think you may have designed the cat block. That’s my guess!
Heather
How wonderful that you made the cover! I have been using your wonderful designs while longarming some quilts recently and know how talented you are at drawing. I am guessing that the little sewing machine is your block.
