Cockadoodledo, Quilters!
Are you ready to go this morning? Do YOU have your Doodle-Do pad ready?
(More importantly, have you had your first cup of coffee???)
Our Ridiculous Rooster is ready for the day–so let’s get crackin’!
THE RIDICULOUS ROOSTER-A MACHINE QUILTING TUTORIAL
This motif begins with Mr.Rooster’s head and ends with his tail. It’s best to tie off between each motif.
Begin by stitching a tight clockwise spiral, ending on the left side of the spiral.
Add a triangle beak and several loops to create the comb.
Stitch to the bottom of the spiral and add four curved lines, ending on the right side.
Stitch a large scallop to create the body of the rooster and add several tail loops.
Stitch a larger scallop to create the bottom of the rooster’s body.
Stitch inside the rooster’s body to create the wing. Be creative here!
Stitch inside the rooster to create a wing. Be creative here!
Echo stitch the body and add two legs.
Finish with a flourish–the Curlicue Knot!

Have just returned from a holiday on the Iberian peninsula. The Rooster is the national icon for Portugal. Just have to try this as soon as my fingers are up and running after a 4 week layoff. How appropriate. Thank-you Lori.

Cute! Looks easy!

Love the rooster design and the poem. I had a Mother Goose book growing up so I learned so many of those catchy stories and poems. Brings back memories!

I have a chicken themed kitchen. I’ll definitely be able to use this. He’s so cute! Thanks, Lori!

I recognize that poem…I grew up having this poem read to me!
I love your rooster design…a wattle under his beak would be fun to add also.

I say, I say, not quite as overbearing as Foghorn Leghorn, but perhaps a better mate for Miss Prissy. Or perhaps another of her sons, and an older brother to Egghead, Jr. ???????? loving the design.

I don’t think he is Ridiculous, but definitely adorable. Great tutorial. Thank you.

Adorable! Having grown up on a farm, I am familiar with roosters and their perculiar temperments!

Ha! Listening to the neighbors’ roosters crowing in a cool AZ morning, having my first cup of coffee and smiling over your post! Great way to start my day. Thanks for the rhyme- brings back fond memories.

Super cute! Just got some red checked kitchen towels on clearance and was wondering what to put on them. Some nice black thread will make a whole coop on them.

My grandmother’s roosters had a “beard” ! That is probably not the right name for it, but the roosters had them and the hens didn’t. So is there a way to add one on to this fella?? Jus’ askin” !!
Today is May Day… lovely flowers to you, Lori !! As children, we used to put flowers on the neighbors’ doorsteps, ring the bell and run away!

Love the rooster. It was actually pretty easy to doodle. Love your two Craftsy classes and your books. I have never been able to draw at all but have always doodled. So glad I found your classes and your blog. I look forward to reading your posts each morning.
Rhonda
Lori has three Craftsy classes now and they’re all the best!
