Log Cabin, Hand dye quiltGood Morning Quilters and Doodlers!

NOMINATE YOUR FAVORITE BLOGGER

I received this very kind note yesterday:

Lori, just thought I should let you know that I nominated you for the Best Overall Blogger Award through National Quilting Circle.  You can download a badge which might encourage your readers/followers to continue to nominate and then vote for you.

I did this because you are the only Blog that I follow regularly and the only one I continue to recommend to friends. Who by the way, also continue to follow you.

I have also learned more from you about FMQ then any other Blogger, or class I’ve taken. Good Luck!

So I’ve added the badge in my sidebar, and I thought we would give it a whirl!

(You can click on the photo below or on the badge in the sidebar!)

Please consider nominating The Inbox Jaunt!

Log Cabin, Hand dye quiltTHE LOG CABIN TABLE RUNNER

In other news…

The Doodle Lessons seem to be going very well,  but most of the comments from yesterday’s assignment were about the quilt underneath the notebook!

I made a king sized version of this log cabin quilt (and quilted it on my BERNINA 820) a couple of years ago.  The table runner was made with orphan blocks to test threads and motif ideas.

Log Cabin, Hand dye quiltI used hand dyed fabrics-which gives it the incomparable color richness.

Each log is cut 1″, so the final dimension is 1/2″.  The center square is cut 2-1/2 inches.

I used Aurifil 30 wt cotton on top and 50 wt cotton in the bobbin to quilt it and wool batting (my favorite). It took less time to quilt than it did to figure out how to quilt it.  The king version hung in my sewing room for months because I was afraid to ruin it.  (Sound familiar?)  I tried several motif samples on this table runner and choose the one on the ends.

I liked how it created movement.

Log Cabin, Hand dye quiltNow, the larger version is on our bed.  (We had to re-paint the walls because they were so washed out next to this quilt!)

And the smaller one makes an occasional appearance on my kitchen table.

I love this happy, colorful quilt in my bedroom…

Log Cabin, Hand dye quiltAnd so does (naughty) Ruby!

Log Cabin, Hand dye quiltHope all your stitching is colorful and makes YOU happy!

  • Chrissy Carlisle-Kitz

I voted for you ….. your an inspiration! Your motivation is incredible apart from all the hard work that you put in on a daily basis. You are a true source of information and you love to share with everyone the talents you have acquired. Bless you!

  • Voting complete!!! I have learned so much from you and you really deserve it!

  • Nancy

I too have nominated your blog to win. I have learned so much and feel so lucky I found your blog on free motion quilting.

  • I only have 1 complaint…I spend way too much time here on your blog, “oohing and aahing” over all of the beautiful items. However, I suppose that’s a complaint that reflects on me, not you 😉
I justify it (to myself, as no one else would say a word about it..lol) by knowing I’m also learning from your blog. Your techniques as well as the way you teach them are simply wonderful.
Off to happily nominate your blog to win the Blog Contest.
    Regards,
    Kan

Very beautiful. I love color and that one is full of it. I also want to mention you have the best blog and I will put in my vote for sure.

  • I think it’s a great idea to make extra blocks for testing quilting motifs, settings, etc. And I know all too well that fear of ruining a quilt top by quilting it poorly! It’s nice to know that even a FMQ superstar like you is not immune to the prequilting jitters! Beautiful log cabin, by the way.

  • Susan O.

Love the quilt and by the way…CUTE DOG!

  • Brenda

Me forty-ninth or one-hundred-thirty-first: I echo everything said earlier. Love your 1/2″ logs. I have a top — close to king size with 3/4″ logs — and just was reacting to a post that described enlarging a pattern from lap to queen size by doubling the size of the blocks instead of making more blocks. Sad, I think. Clunky instead of graceful result. Your quilt is beautiful!

  • Judy Donnelly

I also nominated you for the same reasons… I love your blog and it is truly the only one I follow

  • Linda Fleming

I love your spectacular log cabin quilt and runner – the colorful fabrics speak of sunny days and the quilting is so effective!

Your tutorials are so easy to follow – you obviously put a lot of work into planning and writing them. I enjoy reading your theme days.

Thank you for sharing your work and interests.

    I voted for you!

  • JoAnn C

I voted for you, too. Love your blog and your free motion quilting, and especially your encouragement to try new things!!

  • Darlene Price

Thanks for tooting your horn. I voted. Your blog is one of the few I follow. I’ve deleted more than I follow. It’s all about the quilting, the quilting.

  • Suzanna

I know you’ve recommended wool batting before, and I have to say this time more than any other, I am awestruck by how the quilting looks so dimensional and really pops. Any pattern you might have used would have been perfect.

  • Marianne

I voted for The Inbox Jaunt in the National Quilter’s Circle blogger’s award contest. I don’t understand not being able to report why I believe The Inbox Jaunt to be the top quilter’s blog spot.

Therefore, I’m “having my say” here………

In searching for helpful information on domestic machine free motion quilting, I ran across some excellent blogs that demonstrated domestic machine free motion quilting and offered tutorials. However, it was hard for me to keep up with the pace of the videos, and there was less specific information about how to free motion quilt.

When I found The Inbox Jaunt, my search struck gold. The superior photography, done to illustrate each specifically documented step of the design captured my full attention as I studied and re-studied each entry.

I enjoyed Lori’s expression of her reading interest, her personalized writing style, her lively dogs, her use of bright-colored fabric with light-colored contrasting thread to make her tutorials easy to see and understand, her sharing of her geographic location, family, and events. It felt like an experienced friend was showing me some great quilting techniques.

Every entry was relevant, as typified by her blogger’s responses. She emphasized the importance doodling as well as practicing free motion quilting for at least 15 minutes a day. Lori presented various supplies of potential interest to quilters. She let participants know we didn’t need much to start with, just an interest, a few supplies, and willingness to doodle and practice regularly.

Lori had a blog entry for almost every day. I have appreciated, enjoyed, and returned to them for review.

The Inbox Jaunt is simply superior. Entries are easy to understand and a joy to read. I have gone back to the beginning of The Inbox Jaunt to read, enjoy, and incorporate entries into my free motion quilting experience. They are worth anyone’s time. She has a theme for each day of the week. They are all my favorites.

The Inbox Jaunt is creative, interesting, informative, and entirely, delightfully doable as well as a best use of a quilter’s Internet time.

Marianne, May I have permission to print out your letter and post it on our bulletin board at quilt meeting? I would also love to read it aloud to them. Thanks.. Lori, as you can tell, we love you and your work.

    • I also voted for you and I echo every compliment you have received here. I know it takes a lot of time and energy to maintain this excellent blog and I am so happy you do this for everyone.

  • Thank you so much. It is a beautiful quilt. The fabrics are gorgeous but your quilting is extraordinary! I’m so pleased to hear that it may take you awhile to decide on motifs. I’m pretty new to FMQ and always think I should ‘just know’ what to do with the quilting.

  • Stoney Monte

    Just voted for you!

I nominated/voted for you too. If one can hand dye fabric this rich, why can’t they manufacture fabric colors like this? Ruby is so cute. Nice contrast to the quilt/. 🙂

Just voted for you for Best Overall Quilting Blog. This is the only one I look at every day. Anytime someone ask me about my quilting skills, I always give you the credit. I’ve learned so much and keep my Ipad by my sewing machine so I can refer to it for inspiration. Can’t wait untill your book comes out. A big thank you.
