The Little Things that Inspire

Quilting Little Things

Good Morning, Quilters!

As you may have guessed, I’ve been away from sewing studio for several days.    For more than 15 years, my Mom, sisters and several friends have met near Galena, Illinois for an annual quilt retreat.  It’s a six-hour drive for me which I usually stretch to 7 or 8 hours. I stop frequently–for antique shops, quilt stores and to photograph any pretty view…I just LOVE the drive through the cornfields of the Midwest during harvest season!

By the time I arrive at the retreat, I’m already inspired by the colors and shapes of the countryside, but that’s only the beginning!

In addition to seeing old friends and their amazing quilting projects–more photos to come–

I’m inspired by the little things— like the traditional jigsaw puzzle…

What about YOU?  Do YOU go to any quilt retreats?

What do YOU learn from your quilting jaunts?

What little thing has inspired YOU lately?

We’d LOVE to hear!

  • I would love to attend a quilt retreat. I have not found any other than one group that meets on one weekend a month but I can’ always make it. However the notion of staying “in town” just makes me want to stay home.

  • It sounds like you had a wonderful time in a great place. I live near Galena and I, too, love the corn harvest. I have a retreat coming up in a couple of weeks – I find retreats inspiring and relaxing. It’s so much fun to sew with friends.

I love quilt retreats! I went to one a couple of weeks ago and did fabric dyeing and surface design. I had done most of the techniques before, but I had never done screen printing and I LOVED that. Th images are so crisp. I’m now on a quest to learn more about that, so I guess you could say that inspired me!

  • Glad you have been having some fun Lori! Christine x

Getting ready for a retreat at the end of October. I love to see what others are working on….great inspiration .

  • I’ve never been on a quilting retreat, but, I do participate in lots of sew-ins (one day only). Galena is less than 3 hours from me (western suburbs of Chicago).

  • I just spent 2 days with Bonnie Hunter at classes in Dover DE. I learned a lot from her, was inspired by her patterns. What was the most fun was to go around a room of over 50 people and see all their fabric choices for the projects!
