With just ten days until Valentine’s Day, our hearts (and our quilts) turn to thoughts of the people we love… There’s still time to make them a little token of our admiration. Today we have a little embellishment you might want to add: The Extra-Sweet Heart Border. This pattern is the updated version of The Sweetheart Border we stitched last February. (See HERE)
The Extra-Sweet Heart Border Tutorial
Begin by drawing two lines. In the sample below, the lines are one inch apart. Begin stitching above the bottom line. Stitch a small “c” shape, then stitch the left side of the heart.
At the top of the heart, stitch a loop…
then stitch the right side of the heart.
As you approach the bottom line, curve up and stitch a loop–this is the bottom of the upside down heart.
Continue curving up to form the left side of the second heart…
Sweet! In no time at all –a gorgeous border for your Valentine’s Day Quilt–or absolutely any quilt!
Try this border in different sizes. Below–one inch and two-inch borders.
This is one of those patterns that has rhythm. Once you get in a grove, you’ll be stitching and singing…
NOTE: This tutorial was stitched with Aurifil cotton 50wt in the bobbin, Robison-Anton Rayon on top using a Schmetz Topstitch 80 needle on my domestic sewing machine, a Bernina 820.
Tomorrow: A Valentine to my Mother–a quilted postcard.
May all your stitches be sweet,
Lori
