I hope we have all our technical glitches cleared up by now…if not please leave a comment!
THE Craftsy ADVENTURE began months ago when I was contact by one of their “Acquisition Editors” who asked me if I’d be interested in doing a video for Craftsy…
No, thank you…Well I’m not sure…Maybe…I’ll think about it…Okay…Definitely…Can’t Wait! (all within one minute!)
That began the WILD RIDE!
First there were weeks of planning, writing, editing, re-writing and lots of quilting along the way–I was dying to tell YOU and show YOU the quilts!
In mid-June, I sent two huge packages of quilts and supplies to Denver so they’d be there when I arrived.
I was going to bring my new BERNINA 770QE, but they had a BERNINA 780 on set so I decided to use their machine and avoid lugging mine through the airport.I spent three and a half days filming in Denver. It was absolutely exhausting but tons of fun! The crew was fantastic-professional but hilarious. They kept me laughing all day long, which was a good thing, because I was a bit nervous. It is currently being edited by the amazing Craftsy team. The hours of filming gets edited into a 2 and half hour video of seven lessons-like most of the Craftsy videos.
If you aren’t familiar with Craftsy, their videos are fabulous. Once you purchase them, you own them forever and you can bookmark them and ask questions of the instructor! You can even watch them in double time, if you are short on time…(of course, you won’t do that on MY video, right!?)
I have taken several Craftsy classes and two of my favorites are:
Cindy Needham Wholecloth Quilts
This video is packed with technical information and traditional quilts. While Cindy’s style is much more traditional than mine, I really learned a lot from the lessons. (and now I’m collecting antique tablecloths and napkins….someday!)
and Grace Young’s The Art of Stir Frying
I bought this video around Christmas and then gave everyone in my family her cookbook and a wok. Now that I’m off “Craftsy duty” (cooking and cleaning have definitely been neglected lately)….I plan to watch this again and begin cooking these healthy recipes again!
I’m off to do some much neglected weeding, paperwork and exercise!
Hope YOUR summer has been a GREAT ADVENTURE so far!
What’s happening at YOUR house? We would LOVE to hear!
Lori

glad to hear ABOUT your new Craftsy class!

I love Craftsy —I love LORI….yay! It’s a win-win! Congratulations again….I knew you were destined for BIG things…Craftsy is just the beginning. I’m a little sad though—I fear someday you won’t have time for this blog…what will we do without tutes and doodles? Honestly, though…I’ve taken several Craftsy classes….even have 1 or 2 I haven’t finished yet—time crunch not lack of interest. Their classes are great, in my opinion, and would recommend them to anyone. I can only imagine how GREAT your class will be and I can hardly wait. Do you know when it might be ready? (I guess I should re-read these posts in case you’ve already answered that…lol). Blessings…
Lori Kennedy
Thanks so much Kathy! I will always make time for The Inbox Jaunt. (Besides I can blog in my pajamas!). I’m hoping it will be ready by early fall but not sure!

I am so excited for your Craftsy class to come up – they picked the right gal! I love doing Craftsy classes – and I can go back and look at them anytime. I’ve taken a zipper class, a few piecing classes (to see their teaching style to help improve my own), an artisan bread class, machine quilting and so on! Congratulations!

LOVE Craftsy and SO HAPPY you said yes. 🙂 Can we say we knew you back when?? 😉
Cindy Needham’s class is one on my wishlist. I have a lot of linens from my grandmother I’d like to do something with so they don’t just sit in the cupboard.
But I also own a number of classes I should probably finish. I swear I did watch some! And yes – they are mostly the quilting ones. When I see an author/teacher I like, BOOM right in the cart it goes, usually during their sales.
Cannot wait to see yours!
Lori Kennedy
Thanks Andrea! You really should use your grandmother’s linens. The class is ver inspirational.

So very happy for you — don’t overdo on that housecleaning stuff — it’ll be there waiting when you have time for it! LOL What an adventure!

I’ll be watching for your class on Craftsy. Looking forward to it!

Lori, I can’t wait to get your Craftsy class. I have learned so much from the Craftsy classes. I love their platform! I too wait for the sale on classes. I hope they hurry and get it out for viewing. Congratulations!

You are too good to not have taken them up on their offer. Glad you had a great time. The computer mix up messed up my computer from seeing your posts this week. The only way I fixed it was to sign up again. I did miss the doodle #11 and could not find it among the lists of things. Other than I am an good now.

I’m still a Craftsy virgin… Maybe you will be my “first?” Hah — that sounded really creepy; sorry! 🙂 In the past I used to buy VHS tapes like That Perfect Stitch with Roxanne McElroy to learn hand quilting, but I had to buy the book as well. I like how you can see someone actually demonstrating a technique in a video, but I find that I want to refer to the written word to refresh my memory again and again when I’m actually trying to use the skills for a project. With a video, you have to fast forward and rewind over and over again to try to find the place where the instructor mentions the information you’re looking for, and that can suck up so much time. In a book, you can highlight pertinent info and quickly find it again via the Table of Contents or Index, or just flipping through and looking at everything you highlighted.
With Craftsy, is there any kind of written class notes or outline that you can download and print out? That is the one thing that has kept me looking for books when I want to learn a new technique instead of looking on Craftsy.
In any case, I’m really excited for you for the Craftsy class. I enjoy your blog and AQS articles so much, and you’re such a great teacher in print — I think I’m going to give your Craftsy class a try. Maybe I’ll take my own notes while watching the video.

You can make video bookmarks on Craftsy videos and there are some class notes

Got here from a link from your Facebook page, so at least there is a way in.

This is a perfect combination — I’ve learned so much from your blog and so much from Craftsy, too. Congratulations on getting your class out there where even more will have a chance to learn a lot from you.

I love craftsy classes. Can’t wait for yours to be available to us! It seems I run out of time during the summer, but there will always be fall & winter… Never enough time!! And, I am retired – how does that work?

What a fun, behind the scenes glimpse at what it was like for you Lori! I’m glad you enjoyed the process! Looking forward to seeing your class!

Wow, you and the other people on this bog (oops, typo but funny so I’ll leave it)–I meant to say blog- have opened my eyes to Craftsy. I will need to look at what they offer. I love the idea of giving the classes as gifts! Also, looking forward to watching your class. Love to all.
Sharon
LOL! I love Craftsy also and have many classes. They do offer many free classes so if you’ve never been there sign up for a few of those.

My links from my email are not working.

Really looking forward to your class! Can’t wait. Thank you for sharing your talent.

CONGRATULATION! You have certainly earned this and I’m surprised you weren’t approach long ago. I can’t wait to hear that your video is available. I’d love to purchase it as a way to show my deep APPRECIATION for all you have shared with us and your constant encouragement.

Congratulations Lori. This is a big deal. I’m looking forward to you class. I love my Craftsy classes and have just recently encouraged my Mister to sign up. He’s the resident Chef and a very good one, but he’s always searching the internet for “how-to’s”. I showed him a knife class and he was off to the races. I’ll stick with quilting and sewing and making him aprons!
Marcia R
Can’t wait! I love Craftsy.
Lucky Lucy
Craftsy is an amazing tool for those of us who need to learn on our own time. To be selected to be part of this process is an honor in and of itself. You deserve it. Glad it went well. Can’t wait to see the outcome.

BTW, Monday I have a class coming up on English Paper Piecing! Oooo, fun!
Terry Sheldon
I’m a big Craftsy user, have taken stuff from paper piecing (LOVE Carol Doak) to BOM’s, color theory, and now FMQ (favorites have been Christina Cameli and Angela Walters). I’m so looking forward to your class…any idea when?
Barb Roe
Lori I’ve been quilting for almost 60 years and followed the evolution of this art over time. The modern group of quilters are awesome (yourself included), and I can’t wait to see what this newest generation comes up with. Best of luck with your Craftsy class (I’ve signed up for many of them), and keep up your Doodles and advice for those of us learning longarm quilting. Congratulations on your new endeavor
Floy Heidenreich
Love Craftsy. I have several of their classes in my ‘stash’. Can’t wait to add yours.
Connie Bollard
Thanks Lori for being so brave to first, keep up your wonderful blog and then the big task of crEating a video for us. I am new to your site, so I have a lot of catching up to do. I love ZenDoodle Art, and have just started quilting.
Now I have a way to combine the two without reinventing the wheel
Congrats, Connie from Hot in Arizona

I’m glad your technical difficulties are cleared up! What a fun experience you had…I’m excited for you and can’t wait to see it. I’ve been doing a lot of English Paper Piecing and started a blog about it. 🙂 Following in your footsteps…just a little. And I’m going to go back to your doodling lessons starting with #1, I have a notebook right here with pages ready to go. Never too late to start, right? I think I need to catch a smoother flow of machine quilting. Then I’ll drag my machine out to the back porch…LOL.
Lucie the Happy Quilter
I look forward to seeing you in action Lori.

I am a big fan of Craftsy! I live in Denver. If I’d know you were coming I’d have baked a cake!!! Can’t wait for your class to come out.

So happy for you and so happy your site is back up. Could not access anything yesterday, all I got was “website no longer available”

Can’t wait to see your video. I have purchased several classes and can’t really view them for very long because of my internet restrictions on streaming. So I’m saving up for an IPad so that I can download the classes to that and view them. Well, since there’s only so much space here, I will encapsulate my summer adventures: 91 year old mother passed away, a week later got konked on my head by the van’s back door, resulting in concussion, had x-rays and MRI, with not normal results. Awaiting neurology appointment. Partied on 4th of July, a little too much and now am hobbling around with crutches as I did the Chubby Checker twist a few too many times and have injured my knee or else Arthur-itis has jumped on it!! Waiting to go to the MD today to get x-rays. So if bad luck comes in threes, maybe that’s it. The quilting is getting neglected. Head injury is clearing up a bit. Grief will take a bit longer, but I know she is in a better place. She’d be shaking her head at my latest antics! 🙂
Pauline
Hi Sandy sorry to hear about your mother. Sounds like you’ve been having a hell of a summer. Hopefully after everything heals you will have a better remainder of your summer.
Best wishes
Pauline

Oh, Sandy, I’m so sorry to hear of your loss and unfortunate health issues. My condolences. No matter how old a parent is, it is still an awful feeling of aloneness. I sure hope your head problem clears up soon, as well as your knee. Not a fun summer!

I just love Craftsy classes and can’t wait for yours to be available!

Have taken several Craftsy classes that have been great. Can’t wait for your class to be posted. So tickled that you’re joining that team. Their response to any kind of issue is also great.
Kay Carter-young
I love craftsy! I have tons of classes and patterns and buy their supplies and kits…their prices are fantastic. Can’t wait to add your class to my list!
Tammy
I also have bought and enjoyed several Craftsy classes and will be watching for yours. I’m new to this quilting thing and got much from Cut to It with Debbie Caffrey. My big adventure this summer is two (!) Border terrier pups-the terrorists, and even more exciting becoming a grandma.

How exciting to be a Grandmother and how exhausting to have two puppies!

So glad you enjoyed your Craftsy adventure. I have bought several Craftsy classes and enjoy them a lot but I have also learnt so much from your daily blog that I now have the confidence to quilt a pictorial quilt to go into a show, thank you!!

Congratulations Lori!! This is very exciting! I can’t wait for it to come out!
(BTW–I usually wait for a big sale to buy Craftsy classes. Yours will go right to the top of the wishlist!).
