Good Morning, Quilters and Quilt Lovers!
I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas…It has been very busy indeed here at The Kennedy Compound. EVERYONE was home for a few days! Such a rare treat!
A TIME OF REFLECTION
I love the days between Christmas and New Year’s Day. The quiet week offers a time to look back on the previous year (successes and failures) and plan for the next year–all successes, of course!
I’ve been looking back at the statistics for The Inbox Jaunt in order to plan posts for 2015.
I found some very interesting and surprising trends that I will share over the next few days.
In reviewing YOUR favorite Tuesday Tutorials…The top three free motion quilt tutorials were:
TREND ANALYSIS
Are YOU surprised by the top choices? Do YOU agree? Are these YOUR favorites, too?
What does this mean?…. YOU all like flowers as much as I do!……(The Inbox Jaunt: Quilts, Photography, Family and Flowers?)
OR does it mean you like the color BLUE?
One thing I know for sure….
YOU LOVE TUESDAY TUTORIALS!
So…for 2015…The Tuesday Tutorials will continue….with a wide variety of motifs!
What about YOU? Do YOU do any type of year-end review… to see where you’ve been and where you’re going?
We’d love to hear!

Tomorrow we’ll look at YOUR favorite Silent Sundays… (Can YOU guess which ones?)

My New Year’s resolution is to sandwich and quilt one of my UFOs (actually “finished” quilt tops) a month this winter. I have a lot of them! Partly because the quilting impetus seems to be satisfied once the top is pieced and partly because free-motion quilting still has me terrorised. My more realistic friend Sophie has a bet on with me to finish at least one all winter (unfortunately she knows me pretty well, LOL). So I have decided to start with my Dutchman’s Puzzle top. I thought it would be fun to do rows of windmills in the sashing strips. I was SURE there was a photo of a windmill on one of your blogs, but I can’t find it now. Have you ever done a Windmill tutorial and, if so, where can I find it?

Sorry. No windmills. But it sounds like a good idea!

Thanks just the same. You site is fantastic and inspirational. My best wishes for the new year.

I’m not surprised by the top choices. I’ve tried all three in one form or another with smashing success. I guess I like to quilt flowers too. As always, Lori, you are a treasure!

Definitely Yes on the flower tutorials — keep them coming! They are my favorite free motion fillers and love the way you do them.

Olá Lori. Eu adoro seus quilts – tutoriais. São de fácil compreensão e muito lindos. Desejo que em 2015 você continue a nos proporcionar novos ensinamentos. Um grande abraço. Tenho um ano novo repleto de realizações

Ahhhh, so happy your tut’s will continue! I made a small table topper, and in each block tried one of the designs, well some came out great, others, not so great, need to practice more, but so many wonderful ones to choose from, thanks Lori, love, love your work and for your generous sharing of them!

Love your tutorials. I look forward to Tuesdays. It is not the blue fabric, I don’t look good in blue, I’m a redhead. I recently attended a talk about picking quilt fabric colors being different from picking clothing. I’m happier working with autumn colors. I was introduced to your blog with the Pencils tutorial and I visit daily since. Fabulous flowers above is a favorite – I’ve filled many pages of paper doodling it. All time favorite is the Poinsettia – and with no time left in December for fabric play; I made 10 mug rugs with the Poinsettia. Lori, you got loads of compliments on them. Glad to hear the tutorials will continue; I’m addicted to them. And looking forward to your book. May you and yours have a fantastic year.

Missed you this week, Lori… I am so glad you had a wonderful Christmas with your family. You are correct in saying that this week is one for reflection and new resolve. I have bought a pack of Kona solids and am planning on doing two of your tutorials a week as I just can’t get enough of them. I will start at the beginning of them and do the new, Tuesday tutorial along with the old one. I am really excited and we will see how well my FMQ progresses through the year. I might even buy another machine, one for FMQ and another for embroidery… Thanks so much for your blog and inspiration. You are the BEST!

My New Years resolution is not to be afraid to FMQ. Give it a try I say to myself. Take a deep breath and plunge in. Thankyou Lori for all the amazing tutorials you show us. I aspire to be just as half as good as you are. Happy New Year to you and your family and all your followers too.

Thank you for this blog! I agree it must be hard to keep it going with fresh ideas. I loved the leaves an acorns design! I too just found your site this year and am sharing it with anyone that is interested! Thank you again. You have inspired me to become a confident FMQ!

I am also on e of your followers who found your site during this past year and I have learned a great deal from your tutorials. I am pleased to hear you will continue the Tuesday Tutorials in 2015 and I plan to add them to my collection of samples. I also find this week between Christmas and New Year to be a time of reflection-our whole family was here for Christmas and have now gone back to their homes. It was a joy to have 12 here, In addition to reflection I am planning for next year. Of course, it has far more in the plan than I can do but I like to try for all of it. It will be better this year because we are not going to move again! Lori, I really enjoy the way you present the tutorials and your teaching style. I also enjoy the Open Line Fridays. Actually I like everything about your site and look forward to it each and every day. Happy New Year.

I fully agree. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials. Happy New Year

Tuesdays are an inspiring day for sure. My favorite this year was the Square Flower and variations. It was the perfect thing to use (with my long-arm) for a quilt that was just waiting for the perfect quilt design. Thanks!
Karin
I just got my free motion foot and have only done 5 non-stippling things with it and two of them are on your list! So I have to agree. I love your tutorials!

Thank you for all you have given to us the past year. The flower patterns are my favorites because they are a wonderful all over patterns. I have used them to quilt my charity quilts. The quilts look beautiful and I get to practice. I also enjoy the fact that I can find patterns for borders and for sashing. You are a treasure to many of us. A wish to you and yours for a healthy, blessed and happy New Year.

How do I say what is my favorite when there are so many? The dizzy daisy out of these three. But, who can pass up the beautiful leaves, pebbles, squiggly sun, the squiggly flower and the beautiful Nora’s Rose!! I love to combine several of my favorites and would love to see more of these combos from you. Your touch is just amazing. Thank you for sharing so much and on such a consistent basis. It has to be difficult to produce so faithfully.

I love your creative ideas, I have to try some.

Thank you for all the great tutorials, but I think my very favorite was the Christmas tree and just found that very intriguing. And always love the flowers which just makes me smile… Love your work and really enjoy your blog…. Happy New Year!!!

Thank you Lori for all the time and energy it takes to make, photo, prepare, and write your tutorials. I use pieces of them all the time. I have a hard time keeping up a blog, so I appreciate your efforts. Thanks!!!!

Ditto to all the above. I feel like a child just learning to print! Some day I’ll be able to master the “pencil”! I love Tuesdays, Sundays, but also Fri blog, where questions can be asked… I think, I have many….
Fillers which are forgiving, are my favorite … I think I can stipple, on to some flower power! Happy New Year, many thanks.
Toni
Thank you for all your tutorials – I do not have a favourite as yet but my NYR is to make a serious attempt at FMQ with my sewing (mid-arm) machine and to ‘crack’ the wall of ‘can’t do it’ to pieces. With your help of course 🙂
Have a Merry New Year Lori…

Lori, I only discovered you when I was looking for a FMQ pattern of a rose to add to my French Rose quilt. I copied your photos and loved, loved , loved how you did it. Latter I discovered it was you who did it and I became hooked on your blog!
The rose on the red background will always be my favorite.
Best wishes for a quiet reflective time with your family. Best wishes for the best New. Year. Thank you for continuing to give us all so much. I for one really appreciate the enormous it takes!

Please tell me that was a typo and you meant ” in 2015 Tuesday Tutorials will continue”…..lol……Tuesdays are MY FAVORITE day of the week….dear hubby goes to play basketball straight from work….I don’t have to babysit grandchildren…AND I get a beautiful free quilting pattern….what’s NOT to love about Tuesdays! Saying “thank you” doesn’t seem like enough, but I truly mean it from the bottom of my heart. You are a wonderful teacher, a giving person and a quilting inspiration. Thank you, Lori….

Dear Lori, I just discovered your fabulous blog on Pinterest while searching for quilting Ideas. The poinsettia was the tutorial and, being new to quilting (18 months) and just beginning to try FMQ, I was amazed at how easy your tutorials were to follow and produce great results–
Thank you!!

Music to my ears!

I can easily see why those were so popular. The trends in background fill these days has brought about high interest in how does one create beautiful textural contrast when stitching and these motifs (especially the middle example) lend well to this need. Also, “feathers” continue to be popular and challenging and, a good number feel, beyond the reach of the average stitcher………I say “not so!” and, again, the middle ex. is an excellent idea for achieving a feather-like motif (with variation) that most will be able to stitch…..with practice, of course!
Your tutorials have been a joy to see and put into practice. The simple step-by-step process encouraged many to go ahead and try it. i look forward to what the next year has in store and what new technique will challenge me/us. Happy New year to you and thank you for a wonderful blog!!!!!
