Stencil Giveaway!

January 23, 2014

Stencil GiveawayAs you know, I use stencils frequently in my quilts.  I used a child’s stencil for the Snow Crystal Quilt HERE and I used a stencil to stitch my Shamrock quilt last March.  See the Shamrocks HERE.  (The Shamrock Quilt is actually the Geranium Stencil #SCL-513.16.5)

Whenever I use a stencil, I “lori-ize” it by adding a lot of extra quilting.  See The Red Flower Quilt HERE

Quilt StencilToday, The Stencil Company is offering readers of The Inbox Jaunt five chances (Yes–five chances) to win my two favorite stencils–The Grid Stencils:   SCL-461.00 and SCL -457-10

I use these stencils frequently to mark straight lines and grids.

Quilt Stencil

In order to win one of the five sets…(and to keep you moving on your Quilt Notebooks–read more HERE)…tell me where you are from and  how many UFOs (quilts only)  you have counted so far…

Quilt Stencil The Giveaway will close on Sunday evening and winners will be announced on Wednesday.  Winners will be chosen at random (no extra credit for high numbers of UFOs! )  NOTE–Due to the high cost of shipping–this is a US-only Giveaway–However, I would LOVE to hear from YOU about your UFOs even if you are not eligible to win…

Quilt Stencil

Good luck and Happy Stitching!

I have 9 ufo’s and live in Salem Oregon. I’m a longarm quilter with several quilt tops waiting to be quilted. I found your blog about 4 months ago and look forward to it every day. Your ideas are infectious! Thanks for all your hard work and good ideas.

Hello from Watertown, MN…baby it’s cold outside! I am a recently retired mother of 3 and grandma of 6. I have no UFO’s but am currently working on a quilt that is giving me quite the challenge. I purchased 4 bolts of inexpensive solid color fabric on the web, determined to create something fabulous. If quilt blocks count as UFO’s then I have many! I have tried many many techniques and products, most of which I already had, and a few new. Living on this new budget, is a challenge, but it can be done! My main goal for the quilt is to reteach myself sewing (it’s been a few years since my machine has seen the light of day!) and to teach and someday make a quilt with my 8 yr old granddaughter. We bought her a “beginner” sewing machine for Christmas this year with the hopes that G-ma can teach her at least the basics. I have been researching quilting for a couple of months now, I want to make sure that when we do get to that point, that it is a fun experience and one with more than one goal. I wish to some day be able to make quilts and donate to worthy causes, like, Project Linus. I love your blog!! I rarely sign up for any, but your teaching style, the details and close ups are wonderful! I bet you would make wonderful video’s! Thank you for the chance to win a prize.

Hi Lori, I live in S.E. Ariz where we are having very cool mornings and nice warm afternoons. I currently have 23 UFO’s, if you count the ones waiting to be quilted, and I have been looking for that grid stencil you show. Thanks for letting me know the right #s to use to order if I don’t win.

Hello Lori, I am here in Bozeman, MT. We do not talk about the temps. much here, as it snows alot, cold alot, icy alot, about the same, alot…. Anyway, I only have 2 works going, as I have arthritis in my hands, big quilts are no longer possible. When I found your blog, I was in heaven……I make quilts as I go, no larger blocks than 12.5. amd I have been using your tutorials as a way of finishing blocks. Then I sash and bind when done, twin size is as big as I go…. Love your tutorials, and your photos, would love to win stencils, I have also used the ones from my painting days as quilt motifs…….

  • I have only one UFO — a spew worthy green number which was the result of some poor fabric color choices in my first quilting year (2013). I’ve improved leaps and bounds since then — I think 😉

    • You made me LOL…I think we all have one of those of some sort. Thanks for the laugh!

  • Cecilia

I am in Southwestern Georgia where it is very cold. I have 3 UFOs and 3 WIP. I like your idea of a quilting journal and would love to win your stencils. Thank you for the giveaway and all of your great tutorials.

  • Roxanna

Hi Lori–what a great giveaway!! I have 9 UFO’s and 2 WIP. I taught 5th grade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and live in its suburbs.

  • Phyllis

Have 5 UFO’s in different stages and 2 WIP that hopefully will get finished this year. I’m from Texas and with the weather being colder it’s more an incentive to keep quilting.

  • Brooke lakey

Alabama and only about 5 ufos currently.

  • Carol Fraley

6 UFOs, that are my focus this year

  • Stoney Monte

I’m from Athens, WI and I will only admit to 7 UFO’s. There are four of them piled on my quilt frame, patiently waiting. Thanks for the giveaway.

  • mottine

je suis de france ,j’adore votre site,j’en ai compté 12 !!!
continuez c’est génial et bravo à la future gagnante

  • I’m from frosty MN–I’ve started documenting one of the current quilts I am working on and will continue to document as I work on others. Scarry to think about how many that is–but a goal of keeping at the one and any others I pull out during that month is manageable. At the end of January I will put away anything I need a break from and start fresh in February. I have a notebook where I list all of the quilts I have worked on each month listed. Gives me a frame of reference for how long I have been working on some of them! When I finish tops, quilting or binding I note that as well.

Your quilting designs shown on this segment of your blog are wonderful–just discovered your blog recently. It’s so motivating to see how you go about quilting in a very manageable way.

  • Lani Glasser

Hi Lori! I am Lani from Kirkland, WA, near Seattle. I currently have 9 UFO’s in my notebook. Thanks for the chance to win!

  • Linda E in AZ

Hello from Sierra Vista, AZ, close to the Mexican border where it was 70 degrees yesterday! Warm is nice, but we’re in a bad drought. I saw some iris blooming down our street yesterday when we went out walking.
Would you believe that I only have 6 UFOs?? I like to finish off what I start…. or get rid of it if it’s in the “what was I thinking” category.
I’d love to have the stencils! Thanks!

  • I live in frigid New York. I am embarrassed to say, I have 20 UFOs in various stages ranging from blocks started to tops ready to sandwich and 3 WIP that I recently started and am currently working on. The number would be higher, but I gave 5 quilt tops to a friend that will use her long arm machine to turn them into donation quilts. I usually wind up with a lot of tops that need to be quilted because I can never decide how to quilt them I am slowly trying to work on FMQ. There should be an AA version for quilters.

  • Colleen

I’m on the central coast of California. So far, I’ve found 5 UFO quilts. I thought I only had 2! Thanks for inspiring me to look.

  • In the deep freeze here: Minnesota. Working on 9 projects now, 7 of which just need quilting. I have at least 20 UFO’s that I haven’t worked on for a year or more, 5 of those are completed queen tops ready to sandwich and quilt. Thanks for all the great free motion tutorials and tips. My goal for this year is to learn how to do FMQ!

  • Elaine Miller

I’m from Redding, CA. and big sigh…23 and counting…lol. Mostly tops waiting their turn to be quilted!

  • Linda Hartnett

My biggest UFO is my huge fabric stash! I always buy with the intention of using the fabric in the next great idea. Right now I have 3 completed quilt tops waiting to be basted and quilted and 3 quilt projects that I am piecing simultaneously. I love to shift gears and hop from one project to another. This allows me to work with a broader range of fabric choices in one day. Your tutorials on FMQing are a gift. Thank you so much!

    • Linda Hartnett

Forgot to mention- I live in the beautiful blue ridge mountains in North Carolina

  • Only one little quilt still a work in progress. I live in Dayton, OH and love your tutorials.

  • Mary Lou in OK

1 WIP and no UFOs. I like to finish what I start although I start planning the next one in the midst. It gives me time to practice on learning new skills….I’m loving all your detailed step by step info.

  • Martha Henrichs

I am in Des Moines, Iowa where it was a balmy minus 8 degrees the morning. I have counted 6 quilts layered and partially quilted, 18 (!) tops to be quilted, and 10 other projects in process. It is time to focus on quilting.

  • Ellen

I am from Sugar Land TX. I have 3 quilt tops to quilt and 3 to finish piecing together. I also have 6 wall hangings to quilt and 1 to finish binding.

  • Darlene

I’m in Chesapeake, VA near the North Carolina border. While it’s not normally icy here, it is now. I like the idea of using a stencil. I think my FMQ will be less random with it. I have two WIPs. One I am hand quilting. I have another UFO that is still percolating as to what I want to do to it to finish it. I like drawing in my FMQ Journal. Once I get the feel of the movement, I try it on my machine. Thanks for that tip.

  • hello !
I am from France ! Lucky american ladies ! I have not that much ufos, 3 to be quilted and 3 waiting for finishing piecing whith one I need to find some more material, but I HAVE in mind a lots I would like to do, need some extra hands ! • Debbie Arrington

I live in Spring Valley, Ohio. I recently purchased a longarm to try to get all of my quilt tops finally quilted! I love your tutorials and I’m gaining confidence in my abilities by practicing with them. I may actually start quilting on QUILTS instead of practice pieces. LOL! Thank you for sharing all of your talents with us. Oh, I have 28 quilt tops ready to be quilted.

  • I’m in Canada so can’t enter. FYI the stencil is flat so would mail to Canada as regular document rate in an envelope. Used to live US and ship to Canada. Where can I buy it? I’ve noticed you use it and wondered about it.
Love your designs and use them. Way to many UFO’s.

  • Verna A

I’m in northern Minnesota and have about 8 UFOs. And probably 20+ quilts that I have fabric & patterns for but haven’t started yet. Thanks for the notebook idea.

  • Diane Taughinbaugh

Stencils may be my next move up from free hand. Thanks for the inspiration & ideas.

  • Inge C.

Hi Lori, I live in Denmark and am at the very beginning of learning to machine quilt. So your help is much needed. And so are the stencils…
I have several UFOs – one blue-red-white with stars, one purple-pink with pineapple blossoms, one with Kaffe Fassett fabrics, one scrappy with Spool blocks, one scrappy with bowtie blocks, a string block quilt, a wallhanging with silver-white-blue stars, a dresden blocks quilt, an Easy Street from Bonnie Hunter, and a red-cream-brown sampler…
These 10 are just from the top of my head… Lol – there must be more hiding in the back of my closet… I know I have have several others planned – must make a sampler with quilting patterns as well! Oh, the day dreaming goes on and on.

    Thank you for your inspiration!

  • Barbara

Hi from Roscoe, IL (northern IL). I have 9 UFOs, 4 WIP and I’m aquiring fabric for 5 new projects. I tend to get a little ahead of myself. You FMQ is beautiful! As a newby to FMQ I am intimidated by your more complicated designs but can’t wait to try the “puzzle” pattern.

  • I’m in Florida. I have two large tubs of ufos. I am in the process of cataloging them.

  • Oh my goodness, I’m afraid to count my UFO’s, LOL. Sometimes I just lose interest in a project (I think I’m in good company). I know I have at least 4 flimsies waiting to be quilted. And I’ve been switching out on 4 projects the past year, but in that time I did manage to completely finish 6 quilts, woot woot. Thanks for the change to win.

  • Siobhan

Hi Lori! I’m in San Rafael, California, where we could use a little weather…. I have 5 UFOs and a current work in progress. Thanks for the opportunity to win these stencils!

  • Writing in from snowy and frigid New York! Those grid stencils are great, especially the “rays” one. So here goes: 31 UFOs split up between things I know will get done this year, stuff that may carry over to next year (or even the next!) and a small group “waiting for the lightning bolt of new inspiration” that will get done, well, when they get done!

    Good luck to all!!

  • Janet

I live in Alexandria, VA and have at least 6 UFOs so far. I love having a quilt notebook full of ideas to dream about and finishes to cherish.
    Thanks for your blog!

Hey! I have 5 UFO’s to finish piecing and 6 waiting for quilting. I really appreciate your tutorials and I’m almost ready to try quilting on my own.

  • Vera Thompson

    Hi Lori,
I live in southern Alabama, just north of Mobile. I have 5 UFOs and 2 others I’ve worked on recently that I had to put aside to finish my grandson’s graduation quilt. My oldest UFO is 35 years old. I have 2 kits I haven’t started yet and I pattern I have all of the fabric for that I am making myself wait until I finish 1 of the others.

  • Annie

I’m from COLD Michigan. I’ve started on my notebook. I have three quilt tops and two wall hangings in the “waiting to be quilted” pile – one in the process of getting on the long arm; the others waiting for inspiration. I have five projects in the “actively working on” pile. I have two projects in the UFO pile – one is a wedding present for September, so it needs to move to the active pile VERY soon. And I have more than 20 projects in the “have a kit or an idea” pile!

  • Karen

I have 15 UFO’s that I will admit to! I am currently in Tampa,Florida with my parents. But, I split my year between Manila, Philippines and San Francisco CA..,

  • Tina Melton

I’m Tina and I live in Alabama. I have 11 UFO’s. 2 waiting for bindings, 3 ready to be quilted and 6 being pieced.

    • Janet

  • Barb Schellinger

Another “stay home day” for us in Marine On St. CROIX, MN. Baby it’s COLD outside! I have 2 UFOs & 1 WIP. I am going to quilt all day since I have the day off from school!
    Your quilting buddy, Barb

  • Tina H

Good morning , I am from Brockport NY. Currently I have 8 quilt tops finished but all sitting waiting to be quilted. I am so glad I found your blog as I love FMQ and your tutorials are great. Thank you!

  • Janet

I’m not at my regular home now, so I can’t give you an accurate number of UFO’s. The UFO’s that I can count in my head are, 13. Love what you do with the stencils.

  • 36 UFOs and WIP! I need an intervention!

  • Rose Landon

I’m from Lancaster, Ohio. I have 15 UFO’s. That is down from last year as I finished several that had been incubating for quite along time. I am planning on getting some of them done this year thanks to stumbling on your blog and giving me great information on machine quilting and inspiration! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  • I live in Iowa. I have three lap quilts sandwiched and ready to go

  • LeAnne L

I’m from Oregon. I have 8 UFOs. I’m trying to talk my sister into taking a few to practice her FMQ on.
