Stencil Giveaway!

January 23, 2014

Stencil GiveawayAs you know, I use stencils frequently in my quilts.  I used a child’s stencil for the Snow Crystal Quilt HERE and I used a stencil to stitch my Shamrock quilt last March.  See the Shamrocks HERE.  (The Shamrock Quilt is actually the Geranium Stencil #SCL-513.16.5)

Whenever I use a stencil, I “lori-ize” it by adding a lot of extra quilting.  See The Red Flower Quilt HERE

Quilt StencilToday, The Stencil Company is offering readers of The Inbox Jaunt five chances (Yes–five chances) to win my two favorite stencils–The Grid Stencils:   SCL-461.00 and SCL -457-10

I use these stencils frequently to mark straight lines and grids.

Quilt Stencil

In order to win one of the five sets…(and to keep you moving on your Quilt Notebooks–read more HERE)…tell me where you are from and  how many UFOs (quilts only)  you have counted so far…

Quilt Stencil The Giveaway will close on Sunday evening and winners will be announced on Wednesday.  Winners will be chosen at random (no extra credit for high numbers of UFOs! )  NOTE–Due to the high cost of shipping–this is a US-only Giveaway–However, I would LOVE to hear from YOU about your UFOs even if you are not eligible to win…

Quilt Stencil

Good luck and Happy Stitching!

  • I currently have 6 UFO’s! Hope to have that number down to 0 this year, yeah right. Anyhoo, I hail from Independence, MO-home of Harry S Truman and jumping off point for the Santa Fe, Oregon and California Trails! It’s like 3F today, burrrrrrr!

  • Terry

Hi Lori! I’m from the desert Southwest and only have 2 UFOs. I’ve never tried stencils; but with your great tutorials I’d love to give them a try! Thanks for the sweet giveaway 🙂

  • Susan Stanton

I do keep a notebook of all of my quilting projects and ideas, so it’s nice to be reminded to look at my notes. I have seven UFO’s that I’m currently working on. They are all in different states of progress, so I like to which around as the mood strikes! I’m from Lynchburg, Virginia and it’s cold today!

  • Sharon

Good morning from cold and snowy Portsmouth, New Hampshire! We’re having a heat wave at 16 degrees, warming up from 3 degrees at 7 am this morning. I have at least 7 UFOs. Two have actually moved up to WIP status where I am machine quilting a Christmas sampler quilt I started in 2004 and HAND quilting a queen Log Cabin started soooo long ago (what WAS I thinking!) Thank you for all your wonderful inspiration and education, Lori!

  • I tend to be a finisher, although right now I’m working on a quilt top and need to immediately make a baby quilt. So I guess that means that soon I will have a UFO

  • Hello, from very cold Badger,IA (just north of Ft. Dodge). I’m sad to say that I have about 27 UFO’s. I love starting quilts and when I get bored with the pattern or the colors, I put them in a labeled box to be continued!! I will have to make it a resolution, this year, to finish them, for sure. Some are ready to be quilted, but I don’t know much about that so I would love to win a stencil. Thank you for all the time you spend on your tutorials to help us all. Piece and blessings, Vicki

Hi Lori, Love your blog and have gotten lots of ideas from you! I live in Grass Valley, CA (about an hour NE of Sacramento). UFOs – jeez – I must have at least 15. I work in the local quilt shop and doing samples interrupts work I want to do for me! I am currently working on a raffle quilt for our local Family Resource Center, which does such wonderful things for our low income and Hispanic population. I don’t normally use stencils, but love the grid stuff you do. I took a class from Diane Gaudynski at Asilomar about 5 years ago and it changed my quilting life! Thanks for sharing your talent and inspiration. Love you photos too!

  • CJ Reed

I am from Bella Vista, Arkansas. Oh my, how did you know that I had been counting UFO’s — well I stopped at 22 quilt kits. I then realized I had not counted my PIGS (projects in grocery sacks). I am out of room on my shelves and bins !! Time to go quilt ! Thanks for all of your wonderful demos — they may make me realize — I can do this !

  • Sunny in cold northwestern Montana who only started quilting about 7-8 years ago but love it and love your tutes on FMQ!! I only have one UFO quilt (a reversible Quilt As You Go) but about a dozen in my head with fabrics just waiting. However, I have about 4-5 grandchildren’s garments as UFOs! Have never used stencils before and would love to try!

  • Jeanette

Good morning! I live in Grizzly Flats, CA, a small rural community in the Sierras east of Sacramento! I’m still cleaning and organizing my sewing room and as of this morning I have 30 works in progress and 3 tops waiting to be quilted… And probably the same number of kitted projects waiting for me to start them. I retired two years ago and have been slowly finishing up UFOs. Slow but sure I’m making a dent! Thanks for the encouragement!

  • I don’t count my UFOs, I have bunches. I love how you use stencils but lorilize them to create original quilting designs.

  • Karen Gora

Good Morning from Grand Rapids, Michigan! I’m enjoying a rare sunny day here in frozen West Michigan. I recently discovered your wonderful blog and FMQ tutorials. I love them & currently have 5 UFO quilts of various sizes and ages. Your designs are a wonderful addition to my “bank” of quilting possibilities. Its been fun practicing to build my skills and I’d love to have the stencils to make things easier. Thanks for all your fun comments and blog sharing:)
    Karen

  • Marianne

The shamrock quilt is downright classy, Lori, what an inspiration you are!

  • Hello! I’m from Provo, Utah. With all the freezing weather, the projects seem to be getting done. I have 8 projects in my sewing basket to start with 4 in various stages to complete. Would love some stencils to help tackle my quilting dilemmas ! Love your site

  • Randi

Hello from Colorado Springs, CO. It’s a beautiful snow day today. I am new to the site and am enjoying reading it and am excited to try out your FMQ ideas. I have 20 tops to quilt. I get stuck on the quilting part. I love to take classes and am interested in every new technique or idea that comes along, so I have more UFOs than I dare count. Thank you for your blog.

  • Hi, I’m from Lakewood WA. I have 8 that need to be finished, 3 are monthly projects working on and the others need to be sandwiched and quilted. Do I count the one’s that I haven’t started yet?

  • Deb W.

Good morning! I am from Cozad, Nebraska, on the 100th Meridian. I have 3 UFO’s but I have a list of 10-12 patterns I want to work on this year. I have my scraps all cut, just waiting for the right time for a few of these patterns.

  • Carol

From Texas. I just fmq & straight quilted a baby size, needs binding. I have one away at long armer. 4 need quilting. 2 need backings, then quilting. 1 top needs finishing. 6 are stalled for various reasons. 2 are kits to start. 4 are very small quilts to start. 1 is an idea of a quilt with a few blocks started.

  • Fran Wiest

I have only been quilting for 3 years, but I was really intimidated by the stories of stacks of UFOs waiting to be loved, so I have worked really hard to keep mine to a minimum. Right now I have two, if I include the one I just finished piecing. Of course I have several project bags ready to get started but I don’t think I can count those as I haven’t done any cutting yet. By the way in the past three years I have made around 30 quilts from wall hangings to fully sized quilts and I have quilted them all on my dms. I love your tutorials!

  • Kathy

Good morning from British Columbia! 2 unquilted king size tops and one lap quilt (my testing ground for FMQ) 90 % done under the needle of my Sweet 16. Those stencils would definitely come in handy :).

  • Patty Happel

Good morning. I live in rural north central Missouri. I have, I think, five unfinished projects. Two are tops ready to quilt and one just needs borders to become a top. Time to spend some time free motion quilting those three then get to the last two. Thanks for the chance to win the stencils and thanks for all your tutorials!

  • Susan Shaw

Hello from cold and snowy Ontario, where the weather allows for lots of guilt-free quilting. I have 9 UFO’s and have joined a UFO club in my guild to get 5 of them off the list by June. I have a nephew in Chicago and would provide his address if my name is picked! 🙂

  • Lemmah

I live near Quilt City (Paducah, KY) but that doesn’t seem to help get the UFOs done. I can count 5 quickly in my head, so there must be at least 10. If this counts the ones I want to start but haven’t…there’s another dozen or so…

  • Alesha Klein

Good morning, I am from Rockford, IL and I have 2 quilt tops ready to be quilted, 2 quilts started for the New Year and other mini quilts to finish for my granddaughter. Thank you for sharing with us.

  • Marta

From sunny and freezing rural south Georgia, an hour from Savannah, where we have our own stashes, as well as those inherited from our moms and grandmothers and a great aunt or two. Oh, yes, some gifted stash fabrics came from friends, too!
Seriously I have, I think, 9 WIP. Just finished 4th top yesterday ready to be
free motion quilted as soon as it is warm enough to go out to the cottage to large table. There are 3 child/charity lap size waiting on me also. Our guild donates those.
I began learning to quilt 2+ years ago although I had been sewing for many years.. The quilting takes me back to the days when I played around the feet of my Alabama grandmothers and great aunts as they sewed around a quilting frame which was let down from the ceiling. I am blessed to have a couple of their quilts. My daughters have their eyes on them ! Thanks for opportunity to win stencils. I can see how they would be a very helpful tool to use.

  • I am 73 and trying to learn FMQ I think my brain is slow and my learning curve high. Have 6 quilts to bind. Enjoy your site. I would like to try the stencils. Thanks

  • Glad you are encouraging other quilters to “finish”. I’ve been a teacher for 35 years and have been responsible for aiding and abetting the accumulation of UFO’s by hundreds of unsuspecting quilters. The guilt motivated me to start helping them “assault their UFQ’s” 8 years ago and I’m happy to report not only do I have less than 40 of them today (not saying how many I had back then), but I’ve mentored almost as many students in their finishing efforts!! Keep up the good work, Lori!!

  • Marla Renner

Hi, I’m from Eastvale, CA. I have 6 UFO’s. 3 tops and 3 sandwiches. I would love to win these stencils. I’ve decided to make my 100 day project improving my free motion quilting. Thank you ps: I already receive your e-mails and look forward to seeing them.

  • Good morning from the Texas hill country! I counted my UFO’s and I have at least 6…all in various stages. I love your tutorials and they have motivated me to finish some of these projects! Thank you for sharing your expertise with us!

  • What a wonderful giveaway. “One” of my UFOs is waiting for me to decide how I want to quilt it. I actually pieced many hexie table runners last summer, using EPP techniques with batiks. I’m struggling with how to do FMQ so that it works with the hexie shape and also the batiks, as I don’t want to spend a lot of time doing FMQ to find it gets lost in the design/fabrics. Any recommendations?

Hi Lori, I love your blog. I’m from Porterville, California right now I have 10 quilts waiting for me to quilt them and about 12 projects in various stages give or take a few. I keep saying I’m not going to start anything new until most of them are finished, you know how that goes.

  • I’m from southern Indiana. I have nine ufos I can count off the top of my head, and I’m sure there are more.

  • Hmmm… This whole UFO counting thing gives me anxiety, because I don’t have any. I have one-track Obsessive Compulsive Quilting Disorder that causes me to fixate on a single project from beginning to end. I have a really hard time even switching thread on my sewing machine for quick mending when I’m in the middle of a project — mending has to wait until BETWEEN quilts, never mind if those pants are too small for my son by the time I get around to fixing the zipper! I have been working on the same quilt since April of last year, and I’m only about 75% done with the piecing and applique, let alone any quilting. Can’t I count USPs (Un Started Projects) instead? I bought fabric for a Storm at Sea quilt that I was going to make for a friend as a surprise, but that was over a year ago and the fabric is untouched. I have a couple of quilt patterns that I have purchased but never taken out of the bag, too, and then I keep buying quilting books and dog-earing patterns or techniques that I would like to try. If we count all the patterns I’ve torn out of catalogs and saved in a binder as well, I would have hundreds and hundreds of USPs! But no UFOs. 🙁

I conduct my deviant quilting activities sans UFOs in the chilly but snowless land of Charlotte, North Carolina.

  • Cathy

I live in rural north central Pennsylvania. I only have one UFO.

  • Debbie Collins

Hi I’m from Butler, OKlahoma!!! And I’m embarrased to say I am up to 12 UFO’s and still counting. I have nearly finished the binding on one of my UFO’s!!! So that’s one I’ll get to mark off!!!! Would love to win the stencils!

  • From wherever we park our RV currently in warm sunny Palm Springs area 6 UFO and love your quilting inspirations

  • Elaine Pava

Good morning! I am from Birmingham, AL. I have 2 quilt tops that need quilting and 4 quilts that need only a binding ( wonder what that means)! And lastly I have two tops that are under construction. So that makes 8 UFO’s, hum, seems worse when you write it down. Thanks for the give-a-way.

  • I’m from Canton, MA (just south of Boston), and I have upwards of 50+ UFOs and I’m still counting. This is my year I’m going to try and finish up a few. And use a few of the tops as backs for other tops, so finish of 2 UFOs at once!.

  • Terry Roberson

I’m in sunny California. Los Angeles to be exact. We’re 72 degrees today and expecting 82 degrees by Saturday. We need rain! Ok, I have 30 UFO’S. I just had neck surgery, so my UFO’ s are just screaming at me. I found your site while I’ve been recovering. I love your FMQ and tutorials. I can’t wait to start quilting again .

I live in Moline, IL but am wintering in FL right now. I. have 5 UFO’s right now. But working on it.

  • Peggy Lowe

Hi, Lori, from the banks of Plum Creek, near Swisher, Iowa. I have at least 8 UFOs, at least that many WIPs, probably more if I go upstairs to actually count! Your quilting is such a great inspiration to me! Thank you so much! I have tried several of your ideas and am so pleased with the results!

  • Christine Frost

Oh…and I’m from the Philadelphia, PA area.

  • Maxine Reece

I was Leary about posting about my UFOs but I’m in good company. I have 4 tops ready to be quilted and at least 6 in progress but that’s not counting about 3(I think) tablerunners and 2 wall hangings. My goal is to finish an older one before I can start a new one. I hope I can accomplish that goal.

    • Maxine Reece

Sorry I’m from Springer, NM and 75 miles from the nearest quilt shop.

  • Christine Frost

Oh my…I count 13 UFO’s! That’s my 2014 goal. FINISH them and get them gifted so people can enjoy them! I really could USE these stencils.
Thanks for all your awesome tutorials. I use them often.
Thanks for the possibility to win these stencils!

  • sherryl dallmann

I’m from Wisconsin. I’m honestly not sure how many UFOs I have (don’t think I want to either!). Right now I’m working on a dozen mug rugs for gifts. Would love to win these stencils!!

  • Hey Lori I live in the foothills of North Carolina and have counted 17 UFO’s. Some of these are ready to be sandwiched and quilted, other are items such as table stoppers that were started in classes and never finished! 🙂

  • Brenda Iwami

Good morning from Freedom, CA (about 15 mins. south of Santa Cruz.) I have 4 WIP, and 6 with patterns and fabrics waiting their turn! I would love to try using the stencils in my quilting. Today as in every day, I will sew, sew, sew!

  • I’m in central Illinois and have just 2 UFOs and 2 designs in process. My longarm quilting business interferes with my quilt designing. I have several tops waiting to go on the frame.

  • Dinah

Hi! I live in North Salem, IN (west of Indy) and I have 2 tops finished and waiting to be quilted.

  • I have started this quilting journal and think it’s a great idea. No excuses to forget these four UFO quilt tops ready to quilt and bind or the 2 quilt WIP.
I live in a log cabin we built on a beautiful lake in NH.
Thanks for the excellent and useful give away.
