Your photo is of my beautiful birch tree, something I miss terribly living here in Texas. Thinking of them takes me back to my childhood. We had a beautiful one just outside our kitchen window. Dad spent many hours watching birders and squirrels visit the birdbath and feeders he placed there. I recall spreading a blanket and reading under the birch tree in the summertime…and occasionally peeling off some paper-thin bark to write secret notes. Birch are my favorite tree. Thanks, Lori, for transporting me back to the good ol’ days. God bless…
I, like you, now live in Texas and miss the trees I enjoyed in the north as a child. I am mindful, however, that I have much to be thankful for where I am.
White birches…my fav tree! Have a photo of a grove of them located by Lake Arbutus in Hatfield, WI, hanging above my sewing machine at my eye level. Photo taken back in the 70’s. It was a hangout for my husband’s parents to sit there with a thermos of coffee of an afternoon. Ahh, memories. Miss them. Hard to believe we are now older than they were then. The future marches on.
Wow Marta, I just got shivers up and down my spine. Lori’s exquisite photo (don’t you just love the perspective?) and your memory tidbit took me WAY back too. I’ve never lived where birch trees grow, so my favorite tree is the Mimosa. The olive green branches, spring green fern-like leaves and soft, feathery pink flowers were gorgeous. The biggest Mimosa I’ve ever seen grew just outside my bedroom windows, close enough that I could almost reach out and touch it. I used to climb that tree, pluck a flower or two and brush them against my face. They were softer than the finest silk. Like you, I’m now older than my parents were back then; I miss mine too. Sweet, sweet memories
Thank you for the delightful little trip down memory lane Marta, and thank YOU Lori for the magnificent photo that inspired us.
H-m-m-m…. looking at the lovely combination of sky blue, creamy white and soft grey-brown branches makes me think there’s some quilt inspiration there.
Oh Suzanne, how I wish I could send you some pink silky blooms…. right now today we have about 7-8 mimosa trees growing and blooming on our property in south GA…haven’t even counted them. I take photos every year for one granddaughter who loves them. Amazing to me how quilters as a general group seem to love aspects of nature.
