Your picture brought back memories of how it was when my dad was young growing up on the farm in MN. The horses were traded for tractors and the milk cows were sold and beef cattle were raised. Dad didn’t mind changing to tractors. His dad’s leg was broken when a young horse on the hitch spooked and dragged grandpa through a fence. Other than those stories my life growing up on the farm was great.

Trappings for the mule…. why …oh why did he stop hauling the milk to town? Sorry our kids missed a whole generation of do it yourselfers….my grandparents and theirs. My parents moved to town after the War…1940’s… and everything changed for them and thus for my generation. This photo is a reminder of the hard work it took to make it back then if you were not rich already. Making a quilt was a necessity; today I make them for “fun!”
