Today we have Sewing Scissors–the last (for now) of The Sewing Room Series of Free Motion Quilt Tutorials. I hope you are all going to make a little quilt to hang in your sewing room!
THE SEWING SCISSORS FREE MOTION QUILT TUTORIAL
This motif can be stitched any size. I have provided guidelines just to give you a start at proportions. Make the handles or the blades longer to match your sewing scissors.
Begin by drawing a rectangle: 2-1/2″ wide by 3-1/2″ tall. Drop down 1/4 inch from the top line and draw a line 1-3/4″ long.
Stitch a narrow triangle around the drawn line.
Stitch to the left a few stitches, then stitch on the drawn line and echo stitch back. (You may stitch all the way to the tip or stop a few stitches short to avoid a build up of stitches at the tip.)
Stitch a small rectangle at the base of the blades.
Stitch a spiral in the rectangle and exit out the middle of the rectangle.
Stitch down, then stitch a spiral. Spiral in, then spiral out and reconnect with the rectangle.
Stitch to the right and create the ride sided handle.
Just remember…These are SEWING scissors…Don’t use on paper or you’ll incur your Mother’s Wrath!
Have fun with these…Add your initial in place of the spiral or add a little heart.
Tomorrow…a small quilt with Sewing Notions.
Happy cutting, Happy stitching!
